Jayhad Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 hey man, what is the "bow river Bait" never heard of it, but pretty cool name is the killer caddis your own pattern? adam the Killer caddis is a pattern from Chris at Fish Tales and the bow river bait is a pattern I came up with (sure someone else has done something similar somewhere) but I decided to fish it exclusively in july and august on the bow.... the browns can't deny it.... they just can't Quote
hydropsyche Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Okay. You all are just teasing the hell out of this old tye flier by posting your favorites without giving/showing patterns. Rickr - I gotta see that leggy stone Jayhad - Don't be shy. Here is my top five that I try at least once if the fish aren't on (in no particular order) Copper John Prince AP nymph Seal bugger (dead drifted then swung) midge (the swj is a given) I believe if the fish aren't on, when you change flies, change the size and shape (and motion - softhackle) more then the colour. These flies all have different sizes and/or shapes. That is probably why they are the ones I usually cycle through. Quote
Tungsten Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I like the leggy stone too,i find you have to weight them a lot. Heres mine in no order. PT halfback or prince small green small red bugger Stone leggy thing. Quote
headscan Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Rickr - I gotta see that leggy stone If Rick fishes the same one I do it's this: http://www.fishtalesflyshop.com/feature-fl...aaron-caldwell/ Quote
hydropsyche Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Really? I have a swack of those. I tied them up after watching a fishing show. I think they called it the Box Canyon Stone or the Viagra. I've tried them but obviously not hard enough. Thats the problem when you have 300 different patterns with you at all times. Quote
reevesr1 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Mine is a Wayne Hanson tie. My favorite is the yellow and brown one. It is seriously a fish catching machine, and for a big chunck of the year. Quote
Tungsten Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Girdle Bug, VERY good fly. Yes,My adults are Girdle's with a foam wing. The hackel seams to make a difference. Quote
TerryH Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Mine is a Wayne Hanson tie. My favorite is the yellow and brown one. It is seriously a fish catching machine, and for a big chunck of the year.Is it like this one (from the Idylwilde website)? Terry Quote
reevesr1 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Is it like this one (from the Idylwilde website)? Terry That be it. Colors are a touch different. Wayne calls his "turds". Caught fish with it in your neck of the woods too Terry! But it's more an idealistic than realistic approach..... Quote
Jayhad Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 ^ Yet another variation of the SJW? no, I only fish the wire SJW on a diachi swimming nymph hook I am sure i have shown you the bait Andy, now I have said enough ........
