i asked the whole legal question in july to a few fish n feathers down in the carbondale area. the 5 jerk offs and their atvs and dirt bikes kept crossing the river, back and forth, we were fishing above then and it go to the point that when the dirt bike guy stalled in the river, we cheered because they all had to get off, wade in to the river and pull the dumbass out. which would have been fine except it was a 2 stroke, puking fuel/oil mix into the river. the co basically said, it all has to do with trails. as long as the riders are on a trail, they are fine. in some cases there are trails but no bridges, if there is a bridge in the area, they have to use it, because the bridge is part of the trail. they CANNOT ride up or down stream, but they can cross through a river. if they go off a trail and are caught, there are some steep fines. they seemed to more concerned about guys riding on the road away from the trails than through the rivers.

New To Calgary - First Trip Recommendations!

hey bill, welcome. i do a fair amount of fall/winter camping so to give you an idea, last september 16 weekend, went down to the crowsnest pass area - a little south of the rivers that Lynn mentioned, it rained the friday night, woke up to snow saturday morning, it got down to about -5 over night and didn't get over 7 during the day, sunday it was 18. i've had thanksgiving camping trips in -15 w/snow and +20 in the sun in the waiparous area. it snowed again down there the weekend of the 26th and i didn't get back down in october. winter seemed to arrive on october 20 for 2 weeks last year then went away again. including freezing rain, snow etc. you can camp at lundbreck camp site, you have close access to the forestry trunk road from blairmore, or go a little south and fish the castle river system either just before beaver mines or just after, the rivers in the valley include the carbondale, lynx, lost (be carefule of bears), gardner, or go east or north on 22 and fish the old man. or west and fish the crowsnest. lots of water down there and my favourite of the province. there was no one down there in mid sept last year and i had all the good holes to myself. -
wow, that thread got hijacked quickly. i like to talk to everyone, throw down some opinion that no one wants to know about. it's more fair that way and ICK on the kids, don't have 'em, don't want 'em, certainly don't want anyone else's. Rickr, i know of a good travelling circus that might be interested in taking them...

i think dry. it might actually work, kind of like the light/dark deer hair 'cigarette butt' pattern.

thanks Lynn, that is the outfit i was thinking of and it must have been on tv, you know, one of those lazy winter sunday mornings and the only thing to do is watch fishing shows... it was one of those days and it was a commerical or an interview, i dont remember which, but i remember thinking what a great idea it was to have an organization like that. by the sounds of it we are up to .6% be careful guys, we are going to take over... really slowly. providing, husbands, children, work, school functions, inlaws, pets, laundry, work functions, groceries, other house work and paying the bills doesnt get in the way. -
the few times i have fished the weaslehead, my fishing partner and i have been the only ones, so i guess it depends on the time of day. the last time was kind of funny, he was using a spinning rod - no idea why, something about refinishing guides and hadn't gone to pick up his fly rod or something, but anyhoo... he cast first with a squid like thing, about six casts, dont get a hit in 6 casts, move on is his mantra, so he's working the water, and i'm sitting back just watching, fully expecting him to catch something because he usually does. but nothing for him so he moved upstream a 100 ft and starts chucking his hardware again. i move to where he had been fishing and cast my god awful, creation of green and yellow maribou, sage green tinsle and yellowblack squirl hair. and cast number 3 (once i got my line out a bit) BAM!! FISH ON! i hear from behind me, like i said, 6 casts, just not my 6 casts. lol it was a nice 20inch ish pike. a little skinny though, poor thing kept trying to slide out of my hands, i ended up with pike slime and muddy silt all over me. guess u had to be there. farther down the stream is a beaver lodge and a submerged log, i've been told that both will hold fish, but it was a hot day in july so nothing else moved. as for chestermere, you can fish from shore, canoe will do. i caught my first pike on a fly there last summer from shore. i see most people chuck hardware. try under the causeway/bridge, in front of town hall but the boat launch, and the park on the northeast side of the lake. if you have a canoe, try the south east side by the private boat awnings. if you want to head out, let me know, i have wanted to get out there again, but havent had a chance since may.

so he found his left arm and leg. what a relief

mr.t is good for a laugh but i'm sure he has some sort of copyright on his image and usage i don't think i can see myself wearing a mr.t-shirt i'd like to add a thought to lundvike's design and actually have the fisherman on the bank, persenting the fly to the nice big bully rising to take it. i can't draw.

Fishing With Your Dog
ladystrange replied to HenHackle's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
when i did have a dog, i only took him out once. great dane shepard x. great dog, short attention span. i was carburn park, ended tying him to a bench because he wouldnt sit still and kept getting under foot. on the other hand, i fish regularly (except this year due to the fire ban) in the carbondale, lynx, castle river area with a friend of mine. he has a beautiful dog and has been taking her fishing at least 150 days a year for the last 5 years. last year she was still a bit annoying as she would wander off. he still keeps her on a leash and sometimes he stands on it. this year she has been really good, not going too far and very quite, likes to try to 'kiss' the fish, so you have to be fast with the release. we use her as a bear sniffer. she alerted him to 2 this year before they could sneak up on him. i have another friend whos dog is only a year old. we floated the bow and had pulled over and she saw something and bolted in to the bushes. it took him 15 min to find her and bring her back to the boat. but another day we hit the livingstone, vicary and racehorse and she was fine on the bank. found a rotted deer head and was trying to munch on that. ick i guess it depends on where you are and the nature of the dog you have. i agree, i wouldnt take one on private land unless you know the landowners really well and they know the dog. it is all in the training, time and effort -
hey ultralite, welcome. pike on the fly are fun, try the weaslehead under the foot bridge or chestermere if you have a float tube or pontoon and not a lot of time to go to some of the other lakes.

from what i understand there are a few more than .3% maybe 5%, that being said, i almost never see another woman on the river. maybe they are just clique-y and all fish together. maybe they aren't that adventureous or social. personally i only know 2 other than myself and a few others who want to try it. but the ones i do know ARE single. if that helps at all i have also heard that there is a group for women only and has something to with breast cancer, stroke or something to that effect. i read an article about it a few years ago. women learing to fly fish and teaching other women who have had breast cancer as a way of rehab and exercise etc. i'm ok with being a minority -

since i am currently single, i can't foresee anyone in particular that i would bring, but i'm sure i could wrangle someone up if need be. not like i don't know a enough people. i will have to see if i can swing 3 days. problem being is that i am taking a full month off to travel and will have used up my vacation time. a long weekend would work. i guess i have to check the regs for opening and closure dates.
