  2. because most of you guys were out of school BEFORE the metric system was intorduced. LK2 - 10.5
  3. call fish and wildlife and ask about obtaining grizzly hair from a taxidermist from cuttings on previous years bears?
  4. moose is supposed to be quite good. i have just tied up a bunch of what supposed to be streamers with moose and dog undercoating and they float... not exactly what i was expecting. check the hunting regs. if you can get a tag and shoot a grizzly - which you can do. then there shouldnt be an issue with having it, as long as the animal was not poached. buying some may be the problem. if you need some, i have it, not a lot but i would be willing to share. thank god for taxidermists... I luv you man. anyway. i have black bear as well if you want to substitute. (long guard hair and dubbing under fur) oh, i forgot - caribou. i have some of that also

  10. groan. oh the hijackers are out and about. not much to do on a friday night? lol good guesses. it was a smidge under 19. and that was my first brown actually, first fish (landed) on the Bow River. anyone else going to add a fish?
  11. i'm almost finished the other UK swap, then i have to press out 13 Canada flies by Nov long weekend. after that i am good to go. just as an FYI. i'm away the 2nd week of January.
  12. there is one in beaver mines that the locals talk about. stella's i do believe. right across from the general store. the other one that i can think of is on the right side of 507 just after you turn south from hwy 3. you could also try the castle mtn hostel. they do have private rooms and you have great access to the castle, lynx, carbondale, gardner, lost, suicide and york. of course all those rivers are now closed but a thought for next september. i have a friend that works at the resort, and he also guides. i have not frequented a BB down there. sorry. i sleep in my truck or at the resort.
  13. ok, here is a better picture of the fish. remember - not such a great picture of me. i was a little stunned that i landed it.
  14. LOL! that must have been one scary chick or a guy with a button in a fur coat and a complex
  15. ok, here it goes. Glass Beadhead Glow Nymph 1st shot - the image we see in the daylight 2nd shot - must charge the glow nymph 3rd shot - what the fish sees in dark waters, late evening or night time (i hope) Material hook: size 16 daiichi nypmh hook Thread: 8/0 white or mono head: 1 small 10/0 pearl glass bead Thorax: small amount of white diamond dub Body: 2 strands of glow in the dark mylar motion creamy white Tips: use a black light to charge the glow. lasts longer and is more intense than a white LED
  16. you could guess how big the fish in my avatar is, if you wanted. but i dont think you can see the tail. i might have a better picture of the fish. not so much of me, however.
  17. 2 strands of deer hair per wing should give more space. lol no cinnimon hackle. i have ginger or furnace hackle. is that close enough? what i dont have is the antron i might have light green poly kicking around though btw, if anyone cares. i'm away come saturday morning until sunday night with no computer access.
  18. i didnt think the opinion was yours. i just hope that at the end of the study they can come up with a slightly more logical reason for the lack of big fish, other than it's the fishermen's fault. perhaps preditors or water conditions. even if the big fish have died off from old age, we can't assume that the genetics would get passed on if the 'big growth' genetics are recessive genes and maybe only 1 in 4 have the potential to grow larger than 450mm. if that 1 fish doesnt get to mature, then no big fish and you have 2 average fish and one smaller than average. i guess the question becomes, what are the real factors, loss of habitat from logging or oil wells? (i dont know where the river is so i'm just throwing out some stuff) more predators, bears and bull trout? too fragile for any human contact causing a disturbance? all the old dead big fish were not fertile and didnt pass on any genes, air polution, or some secret band of fish poachers gill netting at night. so for those of you who have caught big graylings in 80's and early 90's, and continue to fish the river but only get 12inchers... what's changed in the last 20 years? more people fishing even though it is C&R, more big fish, general climate change, influences from recent industry in the area, water conditions? I'm just curious to see what everyone's thoughts and opinions are. perhaps a joint study might be in order. if the bulls are getting big, they have to be eating something. i've had bulls come after a 16 inch cutthroat on my line. and if the bulls are getting bigger and the grayling smaller, is there a corillation or just some random happenstance
  19. thanks. those are almost too pretty to fish with.
  20. great picture. congrats. here's your 15 minutes of fame
