  1. I have the Patogoochie aluminum bar boots as well and I don't really notice the extra weight. What I do notice though is I don't even think about where or what I am walking on any more as the traction is by far better then anything else I have tried. Spent a day on the Wiggie this past summer and they were awesome! If buying for freestone river use I would highly recommend them!
  2. Perhaps this is the publicity needed to lobby the government to do a classified waters system for the Oldman. Create more awareness that the fish in this system need to be protected and the extra funds can go to enforcement.
  3. 2 more fly fishing addicts are born....
  4. You can't fix stupid,...... anymore
  5. I like Lake Newell. Some big slew sharks in there.
  6. The Elk was blown out just as bad as the Bow this year and the dry fly fishing was off for much of the summer. I was there in Aug and guides were nymphing in the middle of a hot sunny day. When I questioned the guide he said the hatches were not good and the fish were looking down not up.
  7. I have the G3 convertibles and love them. I have had them for 3 years and no issues. I have yet to roll them up yet And find them more comfortable in warm weather. I think that they have been discontinued so that's probably why They are cheaper.
  8. I think your assessment spot on.
  9. Can't be any worse than BC.
  10. I have it on my 8wt rod that I use for Salmon and Bulls. It's not perfect but it works pretty good. Turns over flys way better than a floating line and sink tip. The loop to loop conection takes a little getting used to but it's ok. Nice not having 6 different spools. Still need some T14 on hand for fishing the Fraser but usually the tips are all I need for everywhere else.
  11. The best traction I have found is the studded felts. I had them on my old Korker Guides but the boots fell apart after 3 hard years. I have upgraded to the Korker Chrome's and have been using the stock klingon soles that came with them. Boots are great but I need to change out the soles to the studded felt as the klingon soles are not good. I'll be switching to the studded rubber when the snow fly's.
  12. If you don't mind fishing with bait, pick up some frozen smelts from Superstore and take them to Pine Coulee. It's just west of Stavley and is pretty much a fish a cast for 14-15" Walleye. Gets em hooked on fishing then you introduce fly fishing next year.
  13. I have the G3 convertables and they are awesome! Going on 3 years with no issues. "touch wood"...
  14. It's on a older Sage XP which is on the faster side but it seems fine, I guess I could have overlined it but compaired to the old freshwater tactical that it's replacing it's definitely a step up.
  15. I've been trying the Rio Trout LT on my 3wt on the Elk casts very nice and the floatation is excellent.
  16. Just a grab bag with an assortment of dries, black gnats, royal coachman and cadis is all I ever used for grayling. Some small wooly buggers for the bigger ones. On Kluane Lake I would concentrate on the creek inlets and just swing the bugger out with the current and when it gets out into the lake expect a hit. If you had a larger rod you could try for lake trout in this same manner. Kathleen river towards Haines has the only natural population of rainbow trout in the Yukon and is fly fishing only. You could try nymphing with small copper johns, pheasent tails and GRHE but why not take them on dries. Good luck!! ~P
  17. So Upper and Lower K just became 'Quality' fisheries this year so it sounds like allowing 1 fish over 50cm's would fulfill your definition of a 'put and take' fishery? Sounds good to me so yes we do need more of these lakes and less of the 5 trout any size (8"-12") lakes! Easier said than done though, takes years to change them then when they just start getting good they threaten to change them back (ie. Police Outpost). Thats why more and more I find myself going to BC.
  18. Something that I've noticed in other popular fishing locations in Alberta and BC is signs listing the basic regulations at main access points/boat launches. Why don't they have any of that on the Bow? They need to get the word out and stop the "I didn't know" excuse. I don't think that you can use 'quality' and 'put and take' in the same sentence. Most of these lakes are 'meated' out in the first 3 weeks after stocking it. I think there are plenty of these fisheries now & they just need to increase enforcement and be harder on these people. If they need more money for enforcement of the Bow then put in a classified waters regulation like on the Elk. Seems to work there as I get checked every second time I fish there.
  19. For the oars try these, no more slipping. http://www.oarright.com/
  20. Tried them for the first time Sunday, sweet boots. Solid!
  21. I just got some but have yet to try them. My old Korkers Guides finaly packed in after 3 hard years so I expect the Chrome to be as good and hopefully better.
  22. Hi Kyle, I would bring at least a 3wt or 2wt if you have one as every piece of water up there will have at least grayling. They are a blast to catch and will rise to flies all day long. I lived in the Yukon for over 20yrs and worked in that particular area for 3 years. I'll see if I can dig up some more info for you and pass it on. What's the date of your trip? Cheers, Paul
