I know exactly what you mean. There's this really old Texan I talk to about fishing...oh, wait.
-
Try going out with only a fly box full of streamers and concentrate only on fishing them - no nymphing or dries that day. Look into getting some sink tips to help keep your streamer down in the current. Vary your retrieve. Try letting the streamer swing all the way to the dangle then strip it in and try stripping during the swing. Also try stripping slow and steady, then quick and jerky. Just change things around until you find what the fish want that day. There are a couple of good threads in the Ask the Pros section on fishing streamers that you should check out. Also keep in mind that fishing streamers isn't a numbers game, but when you get takes on them it isn't like anything else...

Exactly! Had this happen when I was catching on dries and the gear guys asked me what I was taking them on because they weren't having any luck.

West Winds stopped carrying TFO. Gord still has a few old ones left on the rack but he isn't bringing them in any more. He only carries Sage and T&T I think, but not full lines of either brand. Country Pleasures has never carried TFO either.

Advertising and marketing help get the name out there, but there are plenty of examples of massive marketing campaigns that still failed to move any product. I think the consumer's intelligence and desire for a good product is frequently underestimated (just ask GM and Chrysler). Bob Meiser spends little on advertising, yet he seems to sell lots of rods purely by reputation and word of mouth. I think there are also very few shops that sell his rods. Now granted he doesn't have the capacity to build and sell tons of rods to stock the shops, but it shows that if people really want a certain product they will go out of their way to get it, especially in the online age. Predatory and anti-competitive practices are something entirely different. If you feel that's happening, then contact your attorney general's office to find out how to file a complaint.

I think that would violate some competition laws.

The Echo 2 rods come with two tips, but I think they're intended to be used with the same line. One tip is supposed to be for accuracy and the other for distance.
-
The AFTMA rating is the grain weight for the first 30' of line. A 5wt can be 134-146 grains and a 6wt can be between 152-168 grains. So a 5/6 should be able to handle lines between 134 and 168 grains. Just look at it as a rod with a wider grain window. Or maybe just a marketing gimmick...

Intruders. The best part is there's no real set way to tie them beyond a few basics so you can get creative with them.

I think he was implying that those are some of the overhead expenses a guide has to worry about when deciding what to charge. If you take a taxi part of the overhead included in the price of your fare is probably for windshield washer fluid even if the driver doesn't clean the windshield while you're in it. If you think $500 is too much, then simply don't pay it. Why am I getting deja vu here? Oh, now I remember.

Yes.

Sounds interesting. Anyone cast one yet? "A day of multi-bug rigs, wind-resistant indicators and the requisite high-stick rod position can be enough to make your arm fall off before lunch. But the fact is, there simply isn’t a more reliable, effective technique for finding big fish. Which is why we created the 99. Built with the same advanced G5 Technology as our Z-Axis rods, the most obvious nymph-specific feature of the 99 is its namesake 9-foot, 9-inch length, which makes short work of long, drag-free drifts. But that’s just the beginning. The 99’s unique taper loads lower on the blank to generate open loops, helping avoid tangles with multiple fly and indicator rigs. At the same time, a stiffer tip section handles heavy payload delivery but retains the sensitivity needed to detect subtle takes. The 99s also feature slightly oversized guides specifically placed to make stack mending, shake-out and line feeding easier. Put it all together and you have a light, perfectly balanced rod that casts like a 9-footer but fishes like a 10. High-Stickers rejoice!" http://www.sageflyfish.com/dyn_prodlist.php?k=299013

http://www.simmsfishing.com/site/gallery/g...;media_id=00018 If the hole is small enough the Aquaseal should work. If they're Simms waders they should have come with a small tube of it if you bought them new.

When the water is warmer the fish will move into the riffles because the water is more oxygenated. As the weather and water cool, the fish will move back into the slower water. If they haven't already started moving into the slower stuff they probably will soon.

Uh, Dreamweaver is fine and all, but I don't think I'd call it a good one for a beginner which is what Jay said he was looking for. At $500 it's probably a lot more than he's looking for... Take a look at these guys: http://www.canadianwebhosting.com/ I used to host my site there until I got a .Mac subscription and they offer a web building app along with the hosting. Also try googling "wysiwyg". Haven't used a PC in a while so I can't help with Windows software.

Wow Was It Ever Smoky Yesterday
headscan replied to a topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I thought it was from all the meth and crack houses springing up in Calgary... -
Agreed. A lot also depends on what you want the site to do. Building an ecommerce site is much different than just hosting pictures for your family to view.

Ah, good old xkcd. When I worked for the DoJ we went up to the Calgary RCMP detachment for a narcotics "show and tell". They mentioned that after a case has gone to trial and appeals are over they regularly burn the evidence. Maybe we should see if people who live in the area post lots of mean things on the internet.

Someone told me it was avian cholera. Don't know for sure that's what it is though.

Screw For A Hardy Reel?
headscan replied to alhuger's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Did you try Southbow? They're a Hardy dealer and might be able to get you one from Highfields. -
Maybe the people who "looked" weren't sure what it was either. If one person didn't know I'm sure there were others who didn't. Either that or they had already been burned once before by incorrectly identifying a lake trout as a bull trout and didn't want to make a similar mistake.
