How To Fish The Elbow River In Calgary?
headscan replied to archerynut's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Hmm. Don't know about that... -
http://newsroom.calgary.ca/pr/calgary/wild...aspx?ncid=17192 Even though we had a lot of rain this spring, things are starting to dry out. One flicked cigarette butt can start a fire, so douse it in the water then put it in your garbage bag, altoids tin, pocket, or whatever.

A couple years ago I bought an Outbound Short to use as a single hand spey line on a 9'6" rod. It failed miserably. After talking to Simon Gawesworth about it last year he explained that the Short has a front-loaded taper which is inherently bad for spey casting. The reason being is that it's difficult for the rear of the line in your D-loop to move that heavy weight at the bottom and aerialize it properly. Go to the Rio site and compare the line profile of the Outbound Short to any of the actual spey lines and you'll see what I mean.

I guess I missed the part of the email where it says you have to show them how to put a worm on a hook and bonk any fish caught. No reason you couldn't volunteer, bring your fly rod, and pass on the C&R ethic. This is a volunteer thing - they can't fire you if you go "off script". I'd volunteer myself and do this but I already have commitments that weekend.

Gopro Hd Camera For Fly Fishing?

Fish Tales has been selling the GoPro for ages. I think most of these videos were shot with one: http://vimeo.com/user5707424/videos -

Yeah, who does Sage think they are by following the model of every other industry to make money? Look at car makers. Every 5 years or so they release a new version of a model, usually with a "refresh" halfway through. Just be glad it isn't like the tech industry - a new iPhone or iPad every year... -

Weird. I've caught trout, steelhead, and salmon using that knot and never had it fail once. I've even snagged on bottom and had the hook break before the knot. I know plenty of guides who swear by this knot for streamers.
-
Ah, I'm using it on streamers so it's probably a lot easier to do with size 4 hooks and 10lb Maxima...

Simms Wading Boots - Sole Replacement?
headscan replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Are you talking about the StreamTread Vibram soles or the Aquastealth ones? Two very different things... -
I like Lefty's non-slip loop knot. Similar to the Rapala but a bit easier to tie. I find making the loop smaller is just something that comes with practice. http://www.netknots.com/html/non_slip_loop_knot.html

Trout on mice patterns are great fun, but I haven't heard of a lot of people having luck with them on the bow. Still worth a shot. One thing to note is that the guides in Alaska called the Morrish mouse a killer - as in trout take it deep and it usually kills them. Mr. Hanky was the mouse pattern of choice up there.

Southland Dog Park Fencing
headscan replied to ladystrange's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
As far as I'm aware the only section of the Bow in the city that's entirely closed to angling is within the Inglewood bird sanctuary. The rest you can fish as long as you're below the high water mark no matter what. Edit: And I think it's crap that people are tearing down a fence to access water as that's how draconian regulations get put in place, but that fence also extends further into the water (below the high water mark) than it legally can as far as I'm aware. -
Lost Hdcp Connection - Question

It isn't Shaw playing a pirated copy of the movie, it's the helpful HDMI technology that's trying to prevent you from pirating the movie (because hollywood think we're all potential criminals and treats us as such). Basically whatever you had between your tv and cable box probably wasn't negotiating authentication correctly so the other HDMI devices think it's an unauthorized device that you're using to try to record the movie. Sounds like the problem is the hardware on your end, most likely your receiver. Your fix is probably to either get a different receiver or switch from HDMI cables to component cables. -
Probably because you can't have a / character in an email address.

Stir Crazy Bow Blown Out, Close Still Water
headscan replied to fishinglibin's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I did multiple times and know others who did as well. Fishing during a perimeter ban is a bit of a gateway violation though. I got such a rush from it that I started jaywalking and tearing the tags off mattresses. Who knows what I'll do next... -
Damn. The last few times I fished in the city I had it all to myself. Thanks for letting everyone know Darrin.

Do you mean heavy wire stuff or fine wire? For heavy wire there's a bit to play with on a SJW like having floss or similar materials (DNA works well) coming out the front and back of the fly or palmering hackle up the space between the wire wraps. For fine wire there's always different colours of copper johns, brassies, etc.

As long as we aren't the only ones jonesing to get on the river... One interesting thing - to play devil's advocate for a second - is that by some of their logic I should be able to launch my jet boat at Policeman's and run it all the way up into the city without penalty. I think it falls under the "be careful what you wish for" category.

Dude, you're missing the point. The water was high and fast, you went out anyways, took an unnecessary risk (were you fishing with a buddy and/or wearing a pfd?), and went for a swim. What difference does it make whether or not there was a ban on and CFD wasn't patrolling? It's a big river and you can't always rely on someone to be there to save you. Now obviously you got out ok because you probably used common sense and fished in a stretch of slower water. That's all that's required is exercising common sense and good judgment whether it's high water or normal flows.
