  1. I've heard of the "Little Green Machine", not sure if its what you are looking for though. Here's a link to the tying steps just in case: http://www.wileysflies.com/tyingtutorial/w...eenmachine.html
  2. I voted for Tiemco because thats what virtually my entire hook inventory is made up of. I have noticed like the others that they are not the same quality as they used to be though. Like Max, I've found that some of the newer dry fly hooks can be brittle. All the Daiichi's I've used have been great hooks, and I've also been pretty impressed with the Dai-Riki's that I've used although they can sometimes be a little bit too soft - some of their nymph hooks have straightened out on me a bit too easily.
  3. Nice shots in both sets. Looks like a good time.
  4. Awesome link. Thanks for posting.
  5. Heeler's are actually great fishing dogs. I was kind of worried when I got mine that she would not do well with river crossings but she is actually a great swimmer and not afraid of the water at all. She has no problems with any of the river crossings we do, and she absolutely loves hiking and fishing. The herding instinct is definately strong in them though, whenever we go to the dog park she always tries to herd in all the dogs that are running around. It's pretty funny to watch. Here's mine.
  6. Thanks guys. The reason I did not buy my regular license online this year was because of the no access to a printer away from home issue - glad to hear that is being resolved. Smeabs - I'll be there this weekend if you are around. Once you get settled in Lethbridge we can start doing some floats.
  7. Great shots Clive. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Does anyone know if the Crowsnest Angler is selling classified water licences for BC? or if any of the shops here in Calgary do? Thanks.
  9. Awesome report and congrats on all your firsts.
  10. The cover story in the current "Canadian Geographic" magazine is about this. I bought the mag but have not had time to read it yet. I sure hope it does not happen. That's pretty wild country and there is some great fishing to be had there.
  11. Nice shots.
  12. I may be wrong, but have they not already started excavating this lake? I thought I saw one being formed last time I drove by.
  13. You can try the Fly Fisherman forum for the Southwest Region. Lots of guys from LA post trip reports and I'm sure they would be willing to help you out. Southwest Forum
  14. I just got back as well and I must agree that the new venue is a huge improvement over the Max Bell Arena. All the extra space made it much more enjoyable this year. Fish Tales had a huge selection of Whiting hackle at great prices, so I managed to replace some of the stuff that the dog ate last week without breaking the bank. I also picked up a Derek DeYoung cutthroat print and will definately be ordering some more from him - I love his work. Great show this year.
  15. Awesome fish man!
  16. ...after its been eaten by your dog. The picture only shows the biggest pile. Whiting Silver Saddles: Dark Dun, Grizzly (small sizes), Grizzly (medium sizes), Grizzly Dyed Olive Howards Hackle: Larger size Grizzly Saddle And the one I'm most PO'ed about: Whiting Gold Saddle custom dyed Pale Yellow for Green Drakes. Not easy to replace. And here's the guilty party with a $300 tummy ache.
  17. I tied a couple bunny-strip flies for bulls last year and was not really impressed. They didn't really add any action to the flies at all, although in hindsight I think it was most likely because they were probably too heavy/bulky. I also found out the hard way that if you put the fly away with any moisture around the magic head it will rust the hook eye quite badly. I'm sure they will probably work just fine on lighter/sparser patterns but for bigger fuller streamers I found them useless. In my opinion, I think articulated streamers are the way to go if you are looking for side to side action or wiggle in your streamers. I tied and fished them quite a bit last year as well and they really converted me. Hope this helps.
  18. That's great news ADC. Two lakes in each zone would be a great start.
  19. Here is the best link I could find to the weaving technique and the fly is actually very similar: Pott's Weave this link also shows the weave: Pott's Weave 2 Hope this helps.
  20. It looks like the latex is woven with ostrich herl. I tie a Shane Stalcup caddis nymph that use's a very similar technique. It's actually a pretty simple weave to do - just don't ask me to put it into words! I'll try find a link for a description though. Sweet find with the website by the way, thanks for sharing.
  21. Greatest. Video. Ever.
  22. Definately one of my all time faves. Cool vid.
  23. Not sure of a link to tying instructions but it's on one of Kelly Galloups DVD's - T&A Rainbow. I'm sure he'll be tying some up at the Expo in January as well.
  24. I started at around 10, so its been about 20 years for me.
  25. Yes, its white marabou palmered around the shanks and then a topping of olive and pink for the sides. I'd stick to bunny strips for pike though, these would be thrashed after only one fish.
