  1. Brian is a top notch guy and angler. Won't touch a nymph with a 12 foot spey rod. If you are at the PLC, ask for Steve the PACS man and I'll come by to chat. Nothing passes the time in recovery like some good fishy talk.
  2. My first year I caught one 14incher. Thats it. The following year wasn't much better. My two fishing "buddies" weren't much help. I asked them to tell me what I'm doing wrong. They said "Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it.", and not much more. I'm glad to report that I'm fishing circles around both of them these days. And, to boot, giving them advice, and flies, and getting them into more fish then they would normally have gotten into. Compare that to when I took GAW out for the first time. I strung his rod up, told him where to stand, how to cast and what to look for. Before I could set myself up, he had an 18in on. He didn't even know how to bring it in. "Strip Man!. Strip!". After releasing it I continued to set myself up and before I could get into the water, he had another one on! Having someone show you what to do takes years off the learning curve. That man is a flyfishing demon now. He's even out fished me a couple times.
  3. Those guardrails don't look to cushy. Sure to be a future candidate for the Darwin Awards.
  4. A good day at work is a good day at work. A lousy day at work makes me want to go fishing. Halloween can teach you a lot about life. When you have all that chocolate in front of you and you eat it with abandon, you get sick. Literally. Life is like that. Too much summer, and you get sick of it. To much s*ex, and you get sick of it. To much fishing....... Okay. Maybe that last one was a stretch......
  5. I'm surprised its optional. Maybe they should start thinking about mandatory closures during times like this.
  6. I'd ask the porcupine why he's being such a prick. I'd ask the Pelicans "How's it hanging?" and then I'd tell them to flock off.
  7. Led Zeppelin at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan. More for the crowd then the band. Boy, do they attract an ecliptic crowd.
  8. I think Pipestoneflyguy hit the nail on the head. Very good post. Do I feel guilt sometime? Yes. I feel guilt when I swat a fly or kill a spider that shouldn't be in my daughter's bedroom. I'm not ashamed to admit I feel guilt but still fish. I don't thinks its hypocritical. Guilt is a governor to our actions. Can you imagine a world without guilt?
  9. Hey. How did you get a hold of my year book picture?
  10. IMHO, these have got to be the top three pics. Great, great photo's. I've got nothing to compare. (for some reason, I can't cut Hawgstoppah's first pic)
  11. Excellent forum. The Fly Tying section has some of the worlds best tyers participating.
  12. Ha! They will have to change the name from Catwalk to Duckwalk.
  13. antelope - very, very brittle but it floats about 3 times better then deer.
  14. A lot of you mention losing/breaking glasses frequently. I've said this before but its worth repeating. Get yourself a lanyard. Those straps that the librarian wears. You can get "cool" looking ones. The only time you have to put your glasses down is when you done wearing them for the day. The rest of the time, you just slip them off and let them hang around your neck (when tying on a fly). Its hard to crush or lose your glasses when they are around your neck. Since I purchased mine about 15yrs ago, I still have the original set of glasses I bought them for. Before then, I used to lose/crush/scratch them weekly. Polarchromic means the lenses get darker when its sunny out and lighten when its not. Great feature.
  15. Looks like some tree hugger planted a land mind just downstream of that jump and you fell for it....
  16. I agree. Its a great place to live but do us all a favour and keep it to yourself. Its already way too big.
  17. Go with a smaller fly with a larger gap and sharpen the hook. A lot of the "hits" you got were probably last second refusals. I think the rubber legs brings them up but when they get closer, something doesn't look right and they turn back down, making it look like a hit. Or if they do hit, its not with confidence. Its more a mouthing to see if the texture is right (just theory). Try different colours. I think the chernobles you buy use colours that are too bright. If you roll your own, try more subdued colours. My favorite chernoble is green with black on top and a small yellow indicator. I usually go with a size 10.
  18. Nice fish, Brownstone. I can only imagine. Is that a tailing glove you have on? My problem with tailing fish is I can't get a good grip without feeling like I'm crushing something. Then the fish ends up flopping out of my hands and hitting the rocks. Do tailing gloves allow a more gentle and secure grip? I'd rather not use a net if I can avoid it.
  19. I have a 1wt for the dinks and love it, when I get to use it (not for the Bow, but holds its own on the Liv). A 3wt for any river/lake as long as its not too windy. Like HS, my favorite. Its light and when I pick it up after casting the 6wt, it feels like a feather. Worth it if you're old, fish alot and the tendons aren't as springy as they used to be. A 6wt for windy days and/or when I need to cast farther. Each rod was at least $200 (I built all 3), so thats over $600 for rods alone. Add reels and lines and you're getting up there.
  20. Boy I would have loved to see that..... DBT. Good on you. Sometimes something simple gets out of hand quickly, but not normally and you had to say something. I think the jerk was probably showing off in front of his girl friend.
  21. I have bad words too. But its the only time I have bad words with a cheek to cheek smile on my face.
  22. Your first, 9mo and you're even considering going fishing??? Man. There's is more to life then fishing. You don't want to miss that head popping out and introducing yourself. I'll never forget it. Enjoy man. That day, you will understand the meaning of "purpose".
