  1. It isn't a tent, it's a mobile tree fort.
  2. Decided to take an extra day off and make a 4 day weekend for Labour Day so I headed out to the 40 to do some camping and fishing. Left Friday morning before the long weekend rush started. Almost right away I realized I forgot my camera bag by the front door so these are all cell phone pics unfortunately. Stopped on the 532 to air my tires down a bit to smooth out the ride. IMG_20150904_120846 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Nearing the Plateau I saw the first signs that the weather might not be the greatest. IMG_20150904_123138 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr But once I got to the Oldman I forgot about the weather. IMG_20150904_142341 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr After a while I saw a constant stream of 5th wheels heading up the highway and I could see the bad weather heading in. Decided to head to Dutch Creek and grab a campsite. Shortly after dinner the rain started so I hopped in the tent and read for a while before bed. The next morning the rain was still going full on, so I decided instead of packing the tent up wet I'd stay around the campground and fish Dutch Creek. No pictures because of the steady rain. A little after getting back in the tent that night I couldn't hear the rain any more but when I looked outside I realized that was because it had turned to snow. It was obvious the next morning that quite a bit came down at the higher elevations. IMG_20150906_083125 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Pretty decent spot for a provincial campground. Luckily the rain and snow had stopped. IMG_20150904_163952 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Picked up a griddle for my Magma grill and made some bacon and eggs for breakfast. IMG_20150906_085000 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Still some snow around. IMG_20150906_084316 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Hit the Oldman again with low cloud around. IMG_20150906_105143 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Still had the tarp set up in case the weather turned again. IMG_20150906_145731 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Without any rain or snow I grilled up some dinner. Camping plates are too small though. IMG_20150906_173155 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Still some nasty looking clouds hanging around but there was no more rain or snow after Saturday. IMG_20150906_175919 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Stopped by the Cutty Hut after dinner and met Al for the first time. We had some beers and shot the *hit for a while. I ran out of beers and it was getting dark so I headed back to my campsite while it was still light enough to find my way back. Luckily I had more beer in the fridge and some firewood. Pumping out some decent BTUs. IMG_20150906_214340 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr The Magma griddle in action this morning. IMG_20150907_085309 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr After I packed up camp I headed back to the Oldman to make some new friends. I don't think they were as happy to meet me. IMG_20150907_153003 by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Sure the weather wasn't the greatest out there this weekend but it sure as hell beat sitting around at home in Calgary or being stuck in traffic on Crowchild.
  3. Yeah so anyways, back to the original topic of notjetboats. I had a nice chat with a F&W officer yesterday morning on the banks of the Oldman. He mentioned this incident and I got the impression he was one of the responding officers from the way he talked about it. I told him that guys were thinking of going to the hearing on the 29th and he thought that was a good idea to show that people actually care about this stuff.

  5. Sorry but that article is in the mainstream media (the lefty CBC no less!) so I don't believe it. Had it supported my views and beliefs, then it'd be a different story.
  6. ^^^ Agreed, the Patagonia Stormfront stuff is bomb proof. It's not cheap, but when compared to the cost of replacing a DSLR and lenses...
  7. Post a pic of your fishing pooches!
  8. Just seems that whatever I'm trying to get out of the sling has always made its way to the very bottom. Tried this and found it shifted around too much on me. I have the same issue with the messenger bag I use for work.
  9. I recently went from a sling back to a vest. Got tired of always having to unclip the strap, rotate the sling to the front, open a zipper, root around for what I needed, rotate sling to back, do up strap, undo strap, rotate to front again, close zipper because I left it open, rotate to back, do up strap, undo strap, rotate to front again, open zipper, grab floatant because I forgot it, actually remember to close zipper this time, rotate to back, do up strap, fish. I just found that the sling seems like a great idea in theory but in practice it's more of a nuisance. The vest looks a little geeky but I waste way less time looking for things and spend more time fishing.
  10. So I guess you've never exceeded the speed limit, run a yellow light, or rolled a stop sign? Made a right turn on a red light without coming to a complete stop first? The list goes on and on...
  11. Michel is now closed... https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2015FLNR0236-001303
  12. Keep the closures based on defensible science otherwise we'll get random closures (or lack of closures) for random reasons.
  13. I don't think anyone is willing to admit that they've been fishing out there for fear of getting ragged on.
  14. Here's the way I trained mine for fishing specifically. I first brought him out when he was less than a year old and still extremely high energy (he's a terrier), but he got bored pretty quick and wandered off. Took me a little while to find him so back to the car we went. The next time I brought him fishing we first went for a walk and played some fetch to tire him out. Then we went down to the river and I let him go in the water to cool off a bit. Walked down to where I planned to fish then threw the ball for him some more at that spot. I left my pack on the bank with him for him to "guard" while I was fishing and left the ball with him as well. I stopped fishing frequently to play some more fetch with him. That's pretty much how I fished with him all the time until he got older and started to slow down a bit. I still keep a ball in my fishing pack and sometimes just stop fishing for a while to sit on the bank with him. It's going to vary with every dog because of different energy levels and personalities though. Since your dog is a cross between two working breeds you might have to give him a job to do so he doesn't get bored. Just remember that for the first bunch of times you take him you'll probably spend more time training than fishing.
  15. I walk my dog along the river all the time even when I'm not fishing...
  16. I think the "runoff" we saw was just TransAlta lowering the reservoir the 2 metres they were ordered to.
  17. Got a reply from Daorcey: https://twitter.com/Daorcey/status/631182428552335360
  18. First time I'm aware of in 20+ years of fishing it.
  19. Let's see if I get a reply... https://twitter.com/AB_Spey/status/631156235585261568
  20. Ok, so like I said in the other thread, the water temps are directly related to the low flows this year. If there's so little water then why hasn't the city imposed any sort of water restrictions?
  21. The Oldman is gonna end up looking like that combat fishing video Don posted the other day...
  22. Like I said in the other thread, maybe consider deleting until there's something official from AWA or SRD to link to. Until then that may not be a comprehensive list and is rumour/conjecture.
  23. I think you're right except that it has to be a legal fording point on a designated trail. Those spots are rocky bottoms so that there's minimal silt that gets disturbed when crossing. If you cross properly - slow and steady - then the water downstream of you should remain clear. For example, this is a designated fording point in Waiparous. You can see there's no silt downstream of the vehicle and no rooster tails because he's crossing slowly. It's also the shortest distance between banks.
