Not positive, but I think there's some dependance on water temps for when they start spawning so there isn't a definitive spawning window.

That's what I use my Gore-Tex Paclite shell for
-
For a downpour Gore-Tex is my only choice. Gore-Tex waders will keep the river out so they'll handle a downpour easily enough.

Uh oh. This could be bad news for the Air-Lock and Sindicator. https://www.google.com/patents/US8015745?dq=fly+fishing

But will it hold up three wire worms?
-
Pretty sure I've seen them at FT, CP, and Iron Bow. I also think I heard that the 3/4" size (most common) are sold out and backordered from the manufacturer.

I think this sums it up nicely. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/154589232

Bautista was not staring down the pitcher, he was watching the ball. That's a pretty big difference.

I actually think it's nice to see some emotion and passion from ball players, especially during the playoffs. As long as it doesn't get over the top like NFL touchdown celebrations a few years back (TO, Joe Horn, Chad Johnson) then I think it's fine.

Pinching the line too tight to the cork can cause break offs too. Also some of the faster action rods just don't bend enough to protect lighter tippet but that shouldn't be as much of an issue with 3X. Are the break offs always right at the knot?

It's a good way to have someone help you get your setup dialled in and show you a few basics. There's always some more experienced casters down there who'll give you some pointers.

Our Day In Court Approaches....

Nope, but there was one years ago where the judge reduced it when I explained that I was a university student and needed a bit of extra time to pay the ticket. -

I'm sure if it were up to some people on this forum these guys would've gotten life in prison without any chance of parole. What they did was bad and it was wrong, but if you fine them so excessively that they can no longer afford to put a roof over their heads or food on their plates then what? Oh, and cops do have some discretion over the fine to give you on a speeding ticket. I've had a cop tell me he had me going X km/h over the speed limit but he wrote the ticket for only Y km/h to bump me down to the lower fine bracket. From there you can easily take the ticket to court and get the fine reduced by the judge or talk to the prosecutor to get the demerits reduced. It happens all the time. -

I agree with you on everything, though I think the better solutions would be education and more enforcement out there so that we can stop poaching before it even happens. Too easy to walk into a Walmart and buy a license, rod, reel, powerbait, and start fishing. I'll bet there are a lot of folks out there fishing illegally who don't even realize it because nobody made them look at the regs when they bought their license. I'm not saying that's the case here, but it could be a possibility. -
Lies. We know this is what your beard looks like.

Best Guided Trip You've Ever Done?

Destination - a week at Alaska West a few years back. Awesome guides back then but not sure if things have changed with the new ownership. Locally - overnight float on the Bow with Aaron Caldwell from Fish Tales. -
Backhoe Work In The Oldman River
BurningChrome replied to bigbowtrout's topic in News Discussion and Current Issues
That is the best quote in the article and should be applied to the vast majority of these "flood mitigation" efforts along with this quote: -
Maybe it got warm enough to melt some of the snow they got.
-
A spike like that with no recent rain can only mean they opened the dam. Either that or some sort of sensor or software fault.

Backroads Mapbooks Alternatives
BurningChrome replied to BurningChrome's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Well, in case anyone is wondering the new edition of the Southern Alberta Backroads Mapbook is out now. Pretty sure I've seen it at Fish Tales, Country Pleasures, and Iron Bow. -
Single malt please. Preferably Oban.

Enhanced Protection For The Castle

Can anyone get me in touch with Kevin? The points in that email are almost identical to the responsible off roading plan a group I belong to is trying to promote. -
Enhanced Protection For The Castle
BurningChrome replied to BurningChrome's topic in News Discussion and Current Issues
Btw, here's a link to the survey for anyone who hasn't found it yet: http://www.albertaparks.ca/albertaparksca/about-us/public-consultations/archives/enhancing-the-protection-of-the-castle-area.aspx Here's what I wrote for my additional comments: I am an off roader and fly fisher. While it's always difficult to lose access to OHV trails, I believe that the Castle area is too sensitive to support motorized OHV trails. I would rather see the OHV trails closed entirely in the Castle and new, sustainable trails created in a nearby location. If the trails are closed without providing new trails in their stead then OHV users will simply find places to make their own trails in areas that are equally sensitive like along highway 40. I also feel that unless there is more money put into enforcement that many of the goals of the enhanced protection won't be met. There currently seem to be too few Fish & Wildlife and Conservation officers to cover large regions. Without additional officers to enforce new regulations, people will continue to treat the area like the "wild west" environment that currently exists.
