  1. LOL It says tell us why you need to become a better angler, and I figure there is no such thing as a perfect angler, therefore I can apply to win and have the chance to become better. Besides, my odds of winning are better than if I didn't enter at all.
  2. No kidding! I guess it may be tougher to get votes here when 95% of this forum's members get the greatest thrill in life from hearing the words women and waders used in the same context! Thanks to those who have voted for me here, I'm still in 20th! Need to be in the top 10 to have a chance at the trip!
  3. Thanks for the votes everyone! I'm in 20th now and am slowly moving up in the rankings! I'd sure appreciate if you could keep sending in some votes for me, let's get our long-time forum member up in the rankings!
  4. Thanks everyone for the votes, I really appreciate it!
  5. Yeah I did, earlier this spring. Thanks for the vote!
  6. Hey all, I've also decided to enter the WFN Adopt and Angler Contest. As you can see, my main reason for wanting to be adopted by WFN is to carry on the legacy that my grandfather left behind. He started taking me fishing when I was three years old, and was an incredible teacher, and was very patient with me. He sadly passed 4 years ago, but I still fish as much as I possibly can. My entry is here: http://www.wfn.tv/adopt/view.php?entry=607 Thanks in advance for any votes I receive!
  7. Does anyone know if they're open on Sundays?
  8. Does anyone know if the new shop is open yet? I want to go down there and pick up the new Snowbee pack.
  9. I'm thinking of picking up a new reel for my 3 wt this year. I've been using a tfo and it's been good, but have been thinking of getting a good large arbour reel. I've heard some say that a large arbour isn't necessary for such a light rod. What is everyone's opinion on this? I do often fight fish on the reel. The reel I'm currently looking at picking up is the Sage 3200, which is discontinued and on sale. It is fairly expensive but I'm thinking it may be worth it. Has anyone used this reel before? If so, how is it? Does anyone know of any other lightweight large arbour reels? I'm looking for anything under 3.5 ounces. Thanks
  10. As to the flow rates, I could be wrong, but here's what I think they normally are for the Bow. Around 60 m^3/second in the winter. Rising through the Spring, hitting over 200 and sometimes 300 m^3/second during runoff in June. After runoff, drop to about 120 - 150 m^3/second during summer. Tapers off and hits winter flows in late fall.
  11. Thought some of you might find this interesting: www.dhmo.org
  12. Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with waterproof backpacks. I'm looking at picking one up this year and was wondering if anyone has any they'd recommend. I know there's the Simms Dry Creek Packs. I've also been looking at the Overboard packs out of the UK which appear to be quite good. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking for just a simple daypack which is waterproof and is going to last. Thanks
  13. Quick question for everyone, how should I be cleaning my tackle after fishing in saltwater? I've heard some say to just rinse stuff off with freshwater and it should be good. Would it be good to soak a reel and line in fresh water over night, or would this be excessive and potentially cause other problems. Also, just rinse the rods? Thanks
  14. I hope he's okay, I know what you're going through. A couple months ago we fed steak bones and some leftover scraps to our husky and she got the bones lodged in her stomach. Worse than the bones though was that she got pancreatitis, which ended up turning toxic inside of her and in the end there was nothing we could do and we lost her in the middle of November. She was almost 11 and still full of energy, but her system just couldn't handle very much.
  15. Early morning fishing before the wind brought 6 foot waves.
  16. My Wife Has Destroyed My Fishing Pleasure Saturday morning I got up early, dressed quietly, made my lunch, grabbed the dog, slipped quietly into the garage to hook the boat up to the truck, and proceeded to back out into a torrential down pour. The wind was blowing 50 mph. I pulled back into the garage, turned on the radio, and discovered that the weather would be bad throughout the day. I went back into the house, quietly undressed, and slipped back into bed. There I cuddled up to my wife's back, now with a different anticipation, and whispered, 'The weather out there is terrible.' My loving wife of 20 yrs replied, 'Can you believe my stupid husband is out fishing in that s***?' I still don't know to this day if she was joking, but I have stopped fishing.
  17. This reminds me of when I went to Canadian about a month ago looking for a headlamp. The first two people I asked sent me to the lighting section, then the third person went to look it up on the computer and sent me to sporting goods.
  18. The main diet of the fish is known to be shrimp/scuds, however on the day that we kept a couple for lunch, we opend them up and found a bunch of midge larvae.
  19. The steak was pretty good, as was all the food, the camp chef was great. I wouldn't say as good as Alberta though. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to fish for dorado, I had to take a week off school as it was, so time was limited anyway.
  20. In response to the questions, I did go in with the Loop camp. With the current exchange rates, you're looking at around $4800 cdn for the trip in there, which includes 4.5 days of fishing. It's quite expensive but definitely worth it. They can also arrange for all your travel arrangements, including shuttles between airports, hotels, etc. The lake is becoming more well known. It has only been known on an international scale for about 2.5 years, but the word is quickly getting out there. There are a couple other camps on the lake, but I from what I hear and have seen the Loop camp has the highest concentration of fish as it's situated at the mouth of the lake's only tributary stream. They say that November is the best for total numbers of fish, but the numbers do remain very high throughout the season they say. The fish spawn year round, so there will always be fish around the river and mouth. In terms of technique, the following is what worked best for me: 1. String up your rod. 2. Tie on heavy tippet. 3. Tie on whatever fly you wanted. 4. Cast out your line. 5. Hang on. As for the fight, they were very strong fish, but not as strong for their size as Bow River rainbows. Most fish took me very close to my backing, but none actually into it. They did everything though, screaming runs, 4 foot jumps, big headshakes, etc. Overall it was an amazing trip and I would recommend it for anyone.
  21. I didn't get any exact measurements, but I'm guessing from estimates beside my rod that some of the bigger fish were 33-34 inches, with numerous fish over 30. I didn't get any girth measurements though.
  22. I just returned from a week in Argentina fishing Jurassic Lake, and can say that it was the most unbelievable fishing I have ever seen. I spent 4 and a half days on the lake, and rarely ever went more than 5 minutes without a fish on the line. In addition to the lake, I also fished the tributary stream where fish were migrating and staging. Just to let everyone know, some of the fish were very dark, some of these were like this in the lake well before spawning, and I only caught 1 or 2 from the river that appeared to be spawning and quickly moved if there were spawning fish there. Also, their way of landing fish was pulling them up onto the wet portion of the beach, but I ensured that no fish touched dry land. Here are the pictures, I'll let them tell the story. (The pictures are facebook albums, but are available for anyone to see) Before Jurassic Lake, a glacier tour I went on. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=6397...mp;id=709736915 Fish from the Lake http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=6398...mp;id=709736915 http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=6398...mp;id=709736915 Randoms http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=6398...mp;id=709736915
  23. I've personally taken 2 rods on as carry on, mind you these were 4 piece rods, so they were smaller. I've seen people take 2 piece as well, but in both cases I've heard it's a matter of what security feels is acceptable, so even calling the airline may not fully help. If some of your rods are 4 piece, then you could always put the tube in you mian piece of luggage, then pack 2 of your 2 piece rods as your second piece of luggage. Alternately, if you're second piece is just the rods, I'm sure that even if you had more than 2 rods, if they were packed well they'd allow you to fly with that.
