  1. Yes, because the next four weeks of waiting is going to drive me insane, if you get what I'm saying.
  2. Well here's my rant. In the next 12 days, I have 4 midterms, 2 assignments and a quiz. But worse than that, I'm going to spend the next 27 days in anticipation of my trip to Jurassic Lake in Argentina where I can catch 20-50+ rainbows a day averaging over 10lbs. Rant over
  3. Thanks for the responses. It looks like it was an easy fix, I don't think the spool was fully attached to the handle, therefore wasn't alligned properly.
  4. Quick question here, I was just checking my TFO Catridge Series reel, and noticed that there seems to be a bit of grinding associated with the drag. At the same spot in every turn, whether pulling line off or reeling in, there is some extra tension. Is this normally just caused by dirt or maybe lack of oil? Or is it something more serious? Thanks
  5. You can catch the odd laker up there, and other streams have grayling, but the Tree River primarly has Arctic Char.
  6. Right now the best quote I have gotten is from Arctic Sun West Charters. www.arcticsunwest.com
  7. I have been doing some research for my next big fishing trip, and have decided to fish the Tree River in Nunavut for Arctic Char next summer. I was originally considering going through Plummer's Lodge, but found out that you can actually charter your own plane up there. I have contacted a few companies, and have found the best quote to be $8400 return from Yellowknife for up to 6 people, which would work out to $1400 each, plus about 900 from Calgary. At this point I am wondering if anyone on the board would be interested in such a trip in order to get a large enough group together to make it work out. At this point there would be no commitment expected, but I would just like to see how many people are interested to see if it would work. The length of this trip would depend on what everyone wanted, which could be anywhere from 5-14 days I'm thinking. As for the fishing, from reports I have found, it appears that typical catch rates would be around 1-2 fish per hour averaging about 6-15 lbs, with good possibilities for fish in the 20-30 lb range. If anyone is interested could you let me know and I'll get more information to you. Thanks Dustin
  8. Thanks everyone, we were short on time so we just went down to the Bow. We didn't catch any, but had a few hits, and he wants to try more fly fishing next year, so that's a good sign.
  9. I'm looking for an easy place to fly fish where I could most likely catch a few fish. My 14 year old cousin who's visiting for the summer has just asked me to teach him how to fly fish tomorrow as he's leaving on Monday. I'm thinking stocked ponds may be kind of fished out by now and a cutthroat stream might be better. What does everyone else think? Is there anywhere near Calgary where I could easily teach him, and have a good chance at a few fish? Thanks
  10. Can anyone here recommend a decently priced net for landing larger fish that will be easy to carry around? I currently have the large measure-net, which handles fish up to 28 inches, but am taking a trip where there will likely be numerous fish over 30, and I'm looking for something that will be easy to land them with, but will also be easy to carry. If this is tough to find, I can just take a large net to leave on the shore or something and return to when needed, but was wondering what everyone thought.
  11. While this is counteractive to repairing the pond, would there be any benefit to keeping it as part of the river? ie. wintering grounds. If it was part of the river, how much benefit would there be to the fish to have that for the winter? Could it ultimately enhance the bull trout populations, especially in terms of larger fish?
  12. Thought everyone here might enjoy this. http://troutunderground.com/2007/06/05/the...de-immediately/
  13. My guess is from the shore, I don't see any evidence of a pontoon or drift boat.
  14. I'm 19 now, and have been avidly fly fishing since I was 14, and off and on since I was 5.
  15. I have one of those nets that has the tape measure belts right into the mesh where you just add the numbers on the two ends. For those of you that use them, how are they for landing fish that are larger than what they are intended to measure? They don't seem very deep, so I'm thinking they may be difficult to land larger fish with. What is everyone here's experience with them for larger fish?
  16. Heard an interesting story last summer. I was guiding up north, and one of the guides had his clients out fly fishing for pike from a boat. A storm started to roll in and when the guy put his fly rod up in the air, it actually starting buzzing. It would stop when he lowered it, then start again when he raised the rod.
  17. Nice fish, those sturgeon are awesome! I went out last fall and have to say it was one of the best trips I've ever gone on. How long did that one take to get it?
  18. The best warranty service I have seen by far was from Fenwick. It was a $9.95 shipping fee, but they sent it in a new rod and reel tube and I both times I had it back within two weeks of originally sending it. That's their warranty for breakages due to workmanship. They also had a replacement gaurantee similar to tfo's for anything else (accidents, etc.)
  19. Definitely looks to be good stuff. Although it is designed as tippet, you could probably get similar products under many different names. If you don't buy as specific tippet, you'll probably save yourself a lot of money, so I'd recommend using something along the lines of power-pro for the same purpose.
  20. I apologize for posting the picture. Unfortunately there were many factors that made it offensive to many of you, none of them were intentional. My uncle and I always try to handle our fish carefully, but as this post has shown, sometimes there are things we don't realize as well. We will definitely keep these in mind in the future. The finger was not at all directed to anyone here or related to anything in the picture, it was simply a coincidence that it was in that picture.
  21. Photo removed.
  22. deleted
  23. That would have been my uncle, who was just having some fun with the camera. I've never done that in my fish pictures.
  24. My uncle and I decided to head out to one of my favourite streams today to hopefully catch a few trout, and we were definitely rewarded well for it. We only fished for a few hours, but managed to catch numerous large trout and missed many for. I believe we had about ten to hand between the two of us, and missed at least as many and saw many more. As you can see, we decided to take a bit of a break from fly fishing for today and managed to have a very good day. We started fishing late morning and withing a couple casts I caught this nice bull trout, probably 21-22 inches. We then continued fishing and managed to catch more large trout throughout the day, with the best fish topping out around just under 20 inches.
  25. Has anyone here used the Cloudveil 8x waders? I've found some of these for sale on the same sight that I could get in instead and they have the right size. How would they be compared to the simms?
