  1. I recently purchase some scientific anglers professional wf 6 full sink line. When I put it on my reel last night I notice that there was no difffence between the front section and rear section of the line. It looked like a level line. Is this normal? The website shows the front section having a head but there was no noticeble difference in the diameter of the line throughout the entire section of the line. Garlic
  2. Anyone know of a rod builder in Calgary that is able to do a repair. Busted a guide on my rod clearing ice and St Croix said it was ok to get it repaired by someone in Calgary. Thanks
  3. I noticed the food is way more moist/juicy using the charcoal grill. I got the visions from Canadian tire and the food taste way better
  4. Anyone use the reddington rise reels? Any issues? Made an impulse buy the other day and not much out there for info regrding them. $200 was more than I wanted to spend but got sucked in with the lifetime warranty. Was going to get the president reel but not a ton of backing can go o these, maybe 30 yds the specs say. I overline my rod with a 7 weight line so I wouldn't get hardly any backing on that reel. Thanks for your replies
  5. Thanks for all your replies guys. A friend is going to let me chuck his 8 and see how I like it before I purchase one. Cheers
  6. I'm in the market to buy a rod and I'm torn between buying a 7 weight or 8 weight rod. It will be used for fishing mainly streamers, maybe heavy nymph setups, on the Bow and the odd bull trout safari and Pike outing. Is there that much advantaged/differences between the 2? Thanks
  7. TAke a look at canadian tire. They sell the Vision grill. I think top of the line vision grill is $700
  8. Upgraded from my st croix avid to the legend elite. nothing but issues with the upgraded rod. wish i would of kept my Avid. Sometimes better isn't always better
  9. Ended up getting the Freestones with the vibram sole yesterday. Now to find time to test them. Thanks for all the help. I figure if they are keeping Rick out of the drink, can't be all that bad
  10. I believe they come with a lifetime warranty. Bottom of the line simms, but if you want more pockets and stuff, you pay more. I got a pair of freestones waders 7 + years and still no leaks. The fishing hole has freestone boots with felts for $100 last time I was there also
  11. Saw a pair a Simms at BPS for $ 139 yesterday. buy those and the freestones for $160 and you've stayed on budget
  12. try take your apple router and mac to the apple store and see if they can find the issue. The service I have had in the past has been great there. Or try changing on the roouter the user name, password, check if your routers settings are wpa or wep (wpa is better) change channel on router
  13. Thanks guys for the replies. Going to try and pick up a pair of Freestones this weekend. Heard they fit nice on wide feet. Other option I was looking at was the korkers Metal Heads. Lady at one of the local stores says it a great boot. Ciao
  14. Thinking of purchasing a pair of simms with the vibram soles. Read mixed reviews and would like to see what local anglers think of the sole in terms of durablity and traction. Thanks GM
  15. The metal part going into the handle is loose and the reel moves around the butt end. Anyone know of a person that is able to fix this in Calgary? I don't want to send it to St.Croix and wait the three weeks for the repair. St Croix says it won't void the warranty. Thanks for your help. GM
  16. Thanks for the clarification. We'll chaulk it up as a misunderstanding/miscommunication between two anglers. No harm, no foul
  17. I have no problem telling other anglers what I'm using. A boat passed by earlier in the evening and asked about my luck. Told them I got a few on a size 12 gray hares ear. They aren't fishing near me and even if they were, technique or presentation is key. Living in a world where people believe that numbers are what determine a good outing and are afraid of being bested by another angler is a sad world. When I started and you ran into another fly angler, decent conversation and exchange of information was the norm. Back then information wasn't found at stroke of a keyboard, it was learned or taught and passed on. I won't let this person ruin a good evening on the river. If he felt that telling me that he hooked his fish on a caddis was wrong then fine with me. Maybe he was not from around here, who knows. He spot was no big secret either since he was below a bridge. I guess what got me was his cocky attitude. Maybe there is a reason he was fishing by himself ...
  18. Walking back to my vehicle I saw another angler below me playing a fish. He ends up not landing the fish and I call down to him and ask what he caught it on. He looks up at me and asks if I'm a fly fisherman. I reply yes. Obviously because I'm holding my fly rod over the side of my vantage point in plain site. He replies "Then you should know not to ask." I sit in my disbelief for a moment when he looks back up and mutters "the end of my line", turns and starts casting. I wait a quick moment to see if there was a punch line to his antics. Nothing. I think about giving him some sort of salute, but just walk away. If it is wrong to ask another fly fishermen what he is using, then I want out of the club. I'd like to be known as just a fisherman from now on. If you are the guy and are reading this, I say to you that you are what is wrong with this sport and give fly fishing a bad name. Rant over
  19. Looking to get a new line and its down to these two lines. Anyone out there have any experience with these. Also looking at getting the phluger Trion reel. Likes/dislikes?
  20. Really the sponsors are worried about some kids that aren't competing with them. Looks like they are loving what they are doing and trying some things out and FFC shuts them down. Nice. I didn't see the original posts so I might be wrong, but I haven't seen them advertising anything for sale or services in the past. If they had watermarks on their pictures saying Homewaters FF, big deal, they are protecting their pictures from being used by someone else, possibly even a sponsor.
  21. Found this on another forum this morning. This is a great place for us NW calgary anglers to kill a couple of hours or walk the dog with our families. Added my name to the Facebook page this morning. Too bad I missed the rally. GM
  22. Doesn't that Osprey know that bulls are protected
  23. I came back from vacation this year to find my Sage Fli busted at the tip. That sucks so I phoned Sage this morning. Lady on the phone said $50.00 and it will take 4 - 6 weeks. Broke my St Croix Avid in June. $20.00 and it took 2 and a half weeks. I asked about the spare tip program. Sage $75 and you have to send the rod in. St. Croix was $20.00 and you could order the tip online. My Avid was a older model so I had to send it in but now I know which tip to order in case I break it again. If your stuck between buying a Sage or St. Croix, I'd look at the warranty, cost, and turn around times before I buy. Little FYI. GM
  24. My brother gave me this fly rod a few weeks ago and I can't seem to find any info on the rod. Anyone ever heard of these rods? How can you tell the weight of them. It looks old, it's fibreglass, and built in Canada. Thanks, GM
  25. Love the sleeping dog shot
