    Evening On The Bow

    Sweet fish.
  2. Loop to loop.
  3. I've got a TFO Finesse and I love it. SO much fun. I have an Okuma reel for it and love the reel as well.
  4. Mine are very worn out and just starting the third season. I'll be looking for something different as my previous pair lasted like 5+ years. They were Hodgmans.
  5. Welcome to fly fishing. I converted from spin about 10 years ago. Although I secretly sometimes take the spin gear out just to keep the dust off.
  6. Finally someone who knows where this is.
  7. Wicked fish!
  8. I've had this issue at times as well. The tag end tends to get beat up a bit, at least in my old vest. I used to just snip off a couple of inches and then the problem went away. I now have my tippet in a nice little pouch of its own and problem solved. I also used to have my tippet on a spool on the outside of my vest and that was much worse as it got beat up pretty bad from the trees, weeds, and sun. Storage solved my issues.
  9. I agree 100%. I gotta take one of his classes.
  10. Yeah I've seen them too. Never in Alberta though. In Saskatchewan is where I have seen them. I once had one on the back of my neck. I didn't know what it was until I pulled it out. Luckily head and all came out and I had no issues. I saw a dog with one the size of a large corky indicator. The owner ripped it off and it exploded. Totally gross.
  11. Garlic. Or so I'm told. Crush it and rub it your wrists and neck or anywhere a tick can gain access to under your clothes in order to bite. I've never tried it. One added benefit is no one would fish near you.
  12. I've been through the Jumpingpound water fiasco before. It's too much trouble to fish the water and the fishing is subpar due to all of the cattle activity. Spend your energy and avoid the land issue on other waters. You'll enjoy it much better.
  13. I have a Flambeau (I think) box. It's not specifically for flies but it seals and floats. It's a fair size but does fit in my back pouch of my vest and deosn't bother me. It doesn't allow the hooks to be stuck in anything, they are just a big pile in a box. But for the big pike flies it doesn't really matter and they never tangle. I have some bass bugs in there too.
  14. I pretty much do the same. Of all methods I'm best at nymphing and it works for me the way you described. The most important thing once it's in the water of course is the drift. It's kind of like golf, drive for show putt for dough - cast for show, drift for dough. At least for nymphing in my mind. I really need to work on my dry fly skills.
  15. That's like the billionith time I've heard that. So true.
  16. It was $460 at Russells. Last one though.
  17. I don't know but pretty sweet looking fish.
  18. So I picked myself up a new rod last week, a Sage TCR 5 weight and finally tried it out on Saturday. What a great rod! It was a steal of a price and a HUGE upgrade from my old setup. Just when I thought I couldn't spend more on this sport...
  19. Not complaining, just looking for other peoples input and thoughts.
  20. Nature sure is cruel and down right violent at times there is no doubt about that. Sometimes it doesn't even make sense. Zoos don't put seals in with polar bears or zebra in with lions. It just makes sense. That's all that didn't sit well with me, it didn't make sense. I just wanted to see other peoples thoughts on it. Thanks for the responses guys.
  21. Yeah I have an SLR and 4 lenses and a kitchen sink. Usually I carry my little Pentax Optio in the same pocket you are referring to but once in awhile I want to take some good shots while I'm out in back country. I tried putting the SLR in that pocket but the zipper wouldn't close. LOL!
  22. I don't have much experience with the car mounted ones but from what I have experienced they don't have the same capability as the hand held with regards to backroads, rivers, etc. However some internet searching I have found a few that are considered "both" car mounted and portable. Weedy1's links will get you there. I'm a garmin fan myself and love my etrex with the Topo map software. I can set waypoints on the software and map out my day and then update with my tracks later from the GPS. It works great. I believe there is some kind of car kit to mount it as well. It certainly isn't fancy like the car ones that tell you when to turn and stuff which would be sweet. I'm interested to see if there is something that works well for both street and backroads.
  23. No intention here to hijack the thread but for the guys and gals out there that take camera equipment with them what vest do you use? I have a great camera backpack but it gets in the way of my vest. Any suggstions?
  24. That's a sweet vest. Thanks for the link.
