  1. Not trying to create a stir here but are there other guys/gals who feel the same way about off leash dogs along the river? 20 years ago, you might see an off leash dog out for a walk with someone once in a while, now it seems they are nearly everywhere. I get concerned with habitat damage in the Southland off leash area(I know the city has done a lot of work to control) but the amount of damage in areas where the dogs run up and down the banks is excessive. Another area I like to fish is down by the Pine Creek water treatment area. This is an unoffical off leash area. This area is now getting trampled to the point where the bank is becoming unstable in areas and the vegetation is becoming denuded (if thats a word!). I am all for off leash areas folks, I just get concerned with off leash areas in sensitive areas. I fully support off leash areas that are fenced and do not contain wetlands/sensitive areas. Does anyone else feel the same way?
  2. Good discussion. I would agree that the intent for furled is dry fly and is a perfect match for my nice little 8 ft 5 wt sage. I did try it nymphing/w indicator but at the risk of damaging the leader found it wasnt worth it. Great for turning over the leader and landing a dry softly though....
  3. Just tried out my new furled leader last night with a just purchased 8ft 5weight Sage RPLIII, loved it. Turns over nice and hooked several fish just before dark. Any experiences with furled leaders? Nymphing with furled leaders?
  4. I like to use fluorocarbon furled leader with a 8x tippet while fishing a SJW and Stonefly dropper....snap..... Seriously, 2-3X in runoff and 5X the rest of the year....8-10 foot is fine...
  5. Great trip, nice pics Don. I may have a chance to fish Great Bear Lake in September for a similar experience. What line weight did you use and was it mostly sinking line for the lakers?
  6. Was at Whiteswan July 14 and it was lights out hot on the Caddis emerger, and again on the 28th and a little slower but this time on a pheasant tail. BTW, nice fish...Cheers, good on ya Don. Dave
  7. Nice pics. Congrats. Last time I was within 10 feet of a bear was a grizz along the castle r. scared the crap out of me as I slowly moved away while not making eye contact watching the bear slowly move away up a gradient so steep, watching me carefully. I hate bear encounters...scares me everytime ...
  8. Doubt its a char from Lott Creek as it would have had to survive the spill over Glenmore then the run down to the Bow, but you never know...Looks like a Lake Trout but beats me...
  9. That is cool. Who can hook me up with some of those????
  10. My vote is brook-brown X. Dont know how as the Brown is salmonoid and the bull is char family, kinda two different families but I am not a biologist. I did find this though...Google Hybrid populations of char occur in some North American habitats, such as the splake (brook trout x lake trout), the brook trout x bull trout hybrid, and the tiger trout, a cross between brook trout and nonnative brown trout. I also know I used to catch tons of brookies in that watershed along with the bulls and rainbows. Dungarven has lots of brookies. A rare fish to be sure....especially if occuring naturally...
  11. I am sure they would come here and have us sign a treaty allowing us to keep our traditional ways of expolitation and consumption.
  12. Good day to all. I have been extremely curious (for the past 40 years) if by removing the weir(in effect) if the big Bows and Browns downstream would make the trip up into the middle Bow and up the Elbow for spawning. I have always felt that if the Elbow was available, the Bows would utilize it. I know the Browns run up in the fall. Has anyone nticed Redds in the Elbow or on the Bow abpove the Weir...
  13. I have always done well with Olive Buggers size 4-6...Reasonable well with Black as 420 says with run off. Olive seems to work best when water is clear. Used to use white bucktails with a ton of success in the Elbow...
  14. Sink tip. Less control with full sink. Floating line is good from drift boat and bombing the pockets along shore.
  15. Fishing for spawners is not cool, unless your an osprey. Love it. Thanks for posting.
  16. Excellent shots and great sportsmanship in your vids. Goldeneye, who whodda thunk? Kinda reminds me of when I fished for pumpkinheads in the west kootenays years ago... Fun!!
  17. I agree, I bought a complete axle and wheel set from Princess auto for $129.00 (on sale) I am going to always have a spare axle (bought on sale) on hand and simply replace teh works every couple of years. It took 1/2 hour to change the axle versus 2-3 hours repacking bearings/running around trying to find bearings, yada yada, yada...
