  1. Rob, you talking about me or this is Sundance? Only saw one fella out there, my apologies for not recognizing you, didn't realize it was you, you look different without 5 kids and a dog . Next time say "Hey Harry it's me, give me a beer!" That was you who said it was good in the morning on emergers? Was my 2nd trip to Elliott, thought last Saturday was better, too sunny and hot this time but we managed to hook 6. Spent the afternoon rowing my buddy from work around to make sure he landed a couple. It's always fun watching someone fight a fish into their backing for the first time. Thought the highlight of the day were the cowboys and cattle drive, made for a couple nice pics. Were you still there for that? Taking the trailer there next weekend, see if those fish can be landed in the dark. Maybe the surface action will be real good come dusk.
  2. Thanks everyone, it was a great time. Suntoucher, the packs were heavy for sure. The other fella weighs 50 pounds more than me so his pack was way heavier than mine because of all the extra food he brought. Scott, I'm kinda stuck in a ruck with the guitar but still plinking away.
  3. Those that know me know about my 2006 trip to Fortress lake and how that turned out. They also know how disappointing the result was. Especially since I grew up in Cape Breton fly fishing for Brook trout and the thoughts of catching one bigger than a pound or so let alone the size that are Fortress lake really would have been a dream come true. Well, we had a very interesting trip near the end of last month. And I finally did it! If your interested in seeing a few more pics of the trip go HERE. I was in Cuba last month too, take a look.
  4. Sorry to hear dude. We pretty much have a hiring freeze on here but one of the old bosses from my consulting days is always looking for desktop guys if your ok with working downtown. Shoot me your resume - nospam@westjet.com
  5. Right on Conor! Maybe you'll let me try and catch a Golden with that sweet setup during our trip this year.
  6. Had a chance to cast with the 5wt in K-Country on Sunday and even though it didn't help with keeping me from slipping and falling on my ass in the mud (twice), I was impressed with the way that rod cast a good distance of line with ease. The Amundson reel was quite nice as well and paired with the wind-master rod made for a very light setup. With the lifetime warranty I'd be interested to know the price point since comparing it to some of the high end rods out there it may be a contender. But, I'd first like to see a little clarity around the "nominal" charge after the unconditional first year before I buy one. What is the current nominal charge? From the Amundson website regarding the Wind-Master Stillwater fly rod: "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day" "Give him a wind-warrior fly rod and he will never have to buy a new rod for a life time" I'm not a religious man but I'm pretty sure misquoting the Bible is blasphemy, anyone who owns one of these rods will likely go to Hell. That's ok though because I hear there is pretty good fly fishing there.
  7. I'm heading there on my 3rd trip in a few weeks. Talk to the guys at Fishtales, they go down several times a year and will be able to point you in the right direction. Also check out http://www.cubamania.com/cuba/ .
  8. I can't see myself doing much different in spending. However, as long as oil stays down at these price levels it means more beer during trips. Trailhead, left coast? Is that looking south or north? With the increased flight competition to the East Coast this spring/summer along with the low fares I can see myself heading for Atlantics in C.B. a little more often. However, if a major airline happens to go on strike flight loads will be too high which will mean driving south of the border a little more for some exploring. Again, as long as oil prices stay down.
  9. Ah, should have known but we didn't have that very often in Nova Scotia. Lots of hash though. I guess that's where the term "a hash and a hash not province" comes from, don't hear about hash much out here.
  10. Ya, Canmore for sure, that's Mount Watchamacallit in the background.
  11. Wild pan sized Brook trout, hell ya! If you want clean tasting fish then you don't want a stocker especially in the spring. But, that's just from my Brook trout experience back East. Stocked trout equaled mushy white meat and wild Speckled trout equaled firm orange meat. I haven't caught many Speckled's in Alberta so feel free to invite me on your next trip. And what's a left handed cigarette?
  12. Agreed, a wooden net wouldn't last a week in my boat, not worth it. My lucky net is a 30 dollar canadian tire metal handle. A winter a few years ago I was fishing a river down south when the wind blew it into the water and it sank out of site. How is that a lucky net you ask? Well, a few weeks later I see this young punk posting pictures on a forum with my net in the background. So I give him a phone call and sure enough apparently he was streamer fishing and got snagged and up comes my net. Thanks for returning it Maxwell See lucky. Ok, hijack off. Back to Bass Pro, I'm not much for soft openings and since April would want it this way I'm going to wait until it gets hard.
  13. Extended warranties are for suckers especially for computer's. If a computer component is gonna fail it's usually within the first 6 months. If your power supply fails on a computer after 3 years then buy another power supply, they're pretty cheap compared to the cost of an extended warranty.
  14. Not sure if it's still the case, but before I got my Hyde trailer to pass inspection you had to mount a light near the license plate, the trailer didn't come with one 5 years ago. Maybe that's changed Bcube?
  15. Hey Mark, I went with a Hyde about 5 years ago. In comparing Hyde with Clackacraft I didn't think the Clacka was any less of a product functionally and everyone I talk to love their Clacka as well. The reason I went with the Hyde was after factoring in all the add-ons and accessories like counter balanced oars, ez-pull side anchor system, rear pedestal seat, cushion seating, high back rowers seat, boat cover, etc, the Hyde was much cheaper by several thousand dollars. I see you also mention lakes. I'm not sure about the Clackacraft but Hyde has a fitting that you can put over the transom that allows for a motor. Clacka may have too but I would check that if you are considering it. Don't forget all the other great boat manufacturers out there too.
  16. I'll continue to shop at my favorite fly shop for fly fishing stuff but since I live in Airdrie I will go to Bass Pro for things that aren't available at the fly shop like camping and hiking gear, and dehydrated meals. I hate going downtown Calgary to MEC so hopefully Bass Pro will be a affordable alternative. The new fly shop would only be convenient if I forget something before launching at Policmen's since I heard they are open at 6:00am.
  17. And you wouldn't have to worry about finding a condom down there
  18. Not sure if you'll learn anything but entertaining for sure. Drake 2008 Video Finalists
  19. I should also mention that if your hiking with a regular backpack the Trinity packs down very small and deflates quickly.
  20. If your interested in taking the thing into hike in lakes then I would recommend the Outcast Trinity, very light and easy to pump up, comes with a backpack and a pump. I love it because you sit high out of the water which is great when the weather is cold. I get a lot of use out of it and have yet to get a hole in it. Outcast has awesome customer service, I sent mine back to them for repair and they called me soon after. They said "Your Trinity looks like it was half eaten by a wild animal" I said Yes that's exactly what happened while I was camping at a hike in lake" So they say, "No problem, we're sending you a new one today" No charge except shipping cost. Not sure what the Trinity costs these days but a couple of years ago it was 300.00. Already got 3 trips planned with it for this year
  21. If this policy was written into the league rules, I’d say hooray for the Leafs. If Detroit is upset, they should work on changing the rules not just complaining that they were cheated by the rules they agreed to when they entered the league. Why don't we all just take a break
  22. Let's not get carried away.
  23. Sweet fish Brian, congrats. Next year, next year.
  24. Should try and read all sections, missed that one, that is sad! How embarrassing.
