  1. Rickr, the draw will be March 6th at FishTales so hopefully up to and including that day.
  2. Thanks to everyone who dropped by and said hi and supported Stream Watch at the Expo last weekend! Good luck to everyone who bought a ticket so far, odds look pretty good.
  3. Good to meet you finally Jack and thanks again. Hopefully will see you in the Fall.
  4. Thanks to those who bought raffle tickets so far to support Stream Watch! It's been great meeting lots more, seeing people I haven't seen in a while, and even getting a couple of "remember me" moments from folks I haven't seen in years. One more day.
  5. Complete contest rules can be found HERE 100 % of proceeds will be used to support Alberta Stream Watch Donated by WestJet Airlines: 1st Prize - Yes free means free! This return flight voucher for 2 includes all air travel fees, taxes and surcharges! Fly to any regular scheduled WestJet destination. Not only does WestJet fly to many Canadian and US cities, we also fly to many sun destinations including Hawaii, Bahamas and Mexico. First prize comes from Canada's friendliest airline, 2nd prize comes from Calgary's friendliest fly shop.... Donated by Fish Tales Fly Shop: 2nd Prize - Sage Flight fly rod. The winner of this prize gets to pick the weight of their choice. Sage Flight model (from their website); "Through a further application of the analysis and construction methods developed for our G5 Technology, we’ve completely updated our FLi Series with a range of even lighter, smoother fly rods. Introducing the all-new Flight Series. Now you’ll be able to generate high line speed and feel the rod load more precisely for improved power transfer and efficiency. In fishing situations, that means you will instinctively cast better without having to think about it." 3rd Prize fly rod donated by Amundson Outdoors. Thanks to Bow River Troutfitters for donating the 3rd prize Ross reel. Top Fly rod (From the Amundson Outdoor website) "This rod gives fly anglers reliable and consistent performance. By combining 43 and 50 million modulus graphite with a fast-taper design, Top Fly will produce tighter loops and greater casting distances. It is the “flag ship” that performs at the highest level and at a price that is very affordable." I had the opportunity to try this particular model (8' 4 wt) during an annual Golden Trout trip. The first thing I noticed after casting this rod is that it is far superior than most fly rod's in it's price range. Check this and other Amundson fly rods out at the Amundson Outdoors booth at the Fly Fishing Exposition. I will be selling tickets for this raffle at this year's Fly Fishing Exposition January 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. Look for the Stream Watch Raffle booth. Come and purchase tickets to raise money to support Stream Watch's efforts to protect the Alberta streams & rivers that we all love! Hope to see you all there! If you cannot make it to this year's Fly Fishing Exposition click HERE to find out how to purchase tickets. SPECIAL THANKS TO THE BIRD FAMILY FOR BOOTH SPACE AT THE CALGARY FLY FISHING EXPOSITION.
  6. Beautiful rod Ryan, congratulations. You've got a great relative there.
  7. True, and it likely makes little difference to F & W if a few hundred fish get poached every year when weighing the cost of enforcement with the fact they drop several more thousand fish into the same body of water every spring anyway.
  8. Mel Franklin has always been reliable for me year after year. 510.0138 or 936.2772.

    My July

It still powers on too! The screen is FUBAR though. Sweet Bully Tim!
  11. You want have a problem with taking the rods on WestJet or other airline if you can put them in your checked baggage. If you have a hockey bag that would work perfect for the shorter 2. Your other option is to pay ELS cargo to have them sent on the WestJet plane if they are over allowable dimensions. The 5wt 4 piece can be taken on the plane as checked baggage since it will fit in the overhead bin. You will just need to make sure there are no hooks or reel in the case.
  12. Dustin, I think your overreacting. I fly fish A LOT! and many places I go I don't see a soul, but I also don't post about them. Isn't that the point? Don't we agree? Regardless, even if we were disagreeing what's wrong with a bit of healthy debate. Don't take it personally and remember it's the spoiled brat who takes his ball and goes home.
  13. Yes, and he catches some pretty nice fish too. What do you think the impact would be if he named those places in his videos? Oh well, I guess next time he could just walk harder and farther.
  14. The problem with that logic is that yes with the increase in AB's population there are going to be more people out there but the reality is all these new fly fisher folk are not being spread out amongst the numerous water bodies that are available. Instead they are all congregating at the various spots that sound intriguing after being posted on forums like this. Thing is, I can trust most of my buddies that they'll leave an area the same or better as they found it. Have no idea if the same can be true for the 2400+ members and unknown number of guests that view this forum. The 14 year old gets it, too bad a lot of adults don't. Good on ya kid.
  15. When you heading down Rob? I'll be down around the 24th or so. Maybe we could head to the valley for a day to toss some bombers. Schooner is good but it will be Oland's Export for me, same thing, it hasn't been here for a few years. You use to be able to get it at the Trap & Gill and the Liquor store beside the Cecil.
  16. Second time I've heard that this week, looks like I might have a winner for a trip next week.
  17. I don't usually like the white beers especially that Calgary made Wild Rose swill but the Alexander Keith's White has been a favorite for a while now, on tap it's served with a slice of orange, could be a marketing ploy but it's pretty dam good. Noticed another cheap beer in the LC cooler the other day, Dude Beer, anyone ever try it?

    Slammin Spring

Nice as always bud. Did you give the Muskeg a try?
  19. Has been a lot of talk lately about Budwieser Lime beer and how hard it is to get. Well, I had the opportunity to try it today and must say it does taste like a light beer with lots of lime in it. Whoopy freakin do!
  20. Yep, it's good - What are we having this year Tim? My turn.
  21. Totally agree with you Jayhad, I've never had the opportunity to centre pin before but if the intention is a freezer full of salmon in as little time as possible for those living on the West coast then so be it. I'm sure if you ask those applying this method if they've had fun in the process they'd agree. I'm not sure why bait fishing should have any negative connotations if it's a legal, effective, and an enjoyable method for those who did it. I don't see any more skill by those with an over sized Spey or single hand fly rod who apply the 3 nymph heavy rig wintering hole flossing method on the Bow river then those who enjoy the centre pin salmon migration. To me it's all about the fun that ensues once the fish is hooked.
  22. Well hey, this is Alberta, it's not like we're worried about getting checked. More money than brains here I'd say
  23. Saw him there a couple of years ago with Brent but haven't since.
  24. Thanks buddy, I spoke with Calvin yesterday afternoon, maybe we could tie on one of those gopher corpses, the fish are big enough.
