Has anyone seen a more updated hook equivalent chart that includes VMC, Eagle River and some other less common hooks? I use VMC for a lot of my soft hackles, quality is great on these. At the show I had a chance to try some Eagle River hooks and am thinking of checking them out further.

FYI most of the Mustad line is being replaced to Signature series.......unfortunately several of my favourite hooks are being replaced or discontinued altogether

Tail length is a matter of personal preference IMHO. I'd fish them for sure....question is how do you really feel about them.

The "deadline" is not an absolute etched in stone.....it is mean as a type of motivator to encourage tyers to try it....I have several done but haven't photographed them yet as I have a bunch of swap flies to photograph as well; you could say I'm procastinating a bit till I can do a bunch at one time. Feel free to post your results at any time....... it's meant to be a learning experience and to open to new or different techniques and materials.

What kind of cement? It does make a difference as to what kind it is.

Good to see you back Gordo. Some here are die hard brand addicts but alot of us are here to learn and even though I don't post much in this section doesn't mean I don't find things of educational value here.

There are number of flies which are literally tied upside with the the hook pointing up. I've never done it personally but I think it could work with the scud hook but you got me thinking again ( could be trouble LOL) maybe try both styles and fish them both after all it's the fish who will pass final judgement. Another hook option could be a swimming nyph hook such as Daichii 1770 I believe is the correct model number and experiment with that. What's nice about tying is that there are generally more than "correct" way to accomplish an effect.

With that being the case , have you thought of tying the flashback in on the belly? In essence tying it in reverse.

There was a news story on something similar to this not that long ago and one of the points that came to light is that some insurance companies deem asking a question about your insurance a claim. There was a person that had their coverage cancelled because of one small claim and a couple of questions.

Here's a different challenge for you and for some of you it's an opportunity to learn a new technique that is not in the everyday tying arsenal. Flies tied this way I find are way more durable than conventionally tied flies. The challenge this time is to tie a fly that is woven in some way. Materials used are your choice as is the hook size and style. For those that choose to participate I suspect there will be a variety of fly types that are submitted. I don't remember the names of the winners of the flies that were tied on the weekend but I remember one was from Bragg Creek and the other lives in the Queensland area. I think Chris was going to notify the winners of those fly prizes.

I can see South Bow doing ok as many of us know Mike and the location is great for those launching at Policeman's. As for Bass Pro hard to say, I don't think that the avid flyfisher will frequent it with any kind of frequency as it most likely will cater to the larger spinning and baitcasting market
