Show Off Your Fish Tank!
Dxh replied to Hawgstoppah's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Don't mean to budge in here, but from what I have researched its much easier to maintain the proper PH level's etc in a larger aquarium for beginners to SW. I myself have been looking at investing in a nice set up. Everything I've read mentioned that if this is your first SW set up bigger is better. But i am definitely no expert on the subject Nice tank by the way Hawgstoppah! -
Changing Home Phone And Cell Provider
Dxh replied to fishinglibin's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Used to have a galaxy S3, hated it. Apps were constantly requiring access to personal info such as contact info, messages etc. The phone was quick but constantly was glitching and crashing. When you wanted it to just be a phone, it was mediocre at best. It was stolen from me at a bar downtown, enjoy that pos whoever you are... Blackberry Z10 was/is a great phone, but the lack of apps available made it inconvenient and well.. kind of boring for my taste. Not that its Blackberry's fault, its too bad they couldn't get dev's to work for them, the phone itself was great. (And the Q10 qwerty keyboard imho is still where its at) I switched back to Iphone 5s recently and honestly its the best of the worst. (That i have tried) The call quality is great, tons of apps and the ios seems to be the most stable out of the aforementioned. The finger print scanner worried me a little at first of being "gimicky", but my concerns were quickly laid to rest. It's one of the most convenient and relevant hardware upgrades to a phone I've seen yet. The only issue with it is that if your fingers are wet or sticky it will not read properly. I use my phone often, the time saved by just holding your finger on the scanner instead of typing in a password every time you unlock your phone quickly adds up. Very neat. Although now labeled as an isheep among my friends, I can say that I am at least a happy sheep, especially watching them reboot there android's and doing battery pulls all the time. Keep in mind the iPhone is very user friendly compared to an android, and if you are "technologically challenged" you may have difficulty operating and understanding android. I myself have worked in the IT field for several years and even I found my galaxy difficult and clumsy to use. I am not a "apple" kind of guy by any means, i much prefer PC's over mac's any day. Phone wise i think Apple nailed it though. Still would like to try the windows phone out to see how that OS and the apps work on it. I've heard decent things. All that being said the iPhone is not perfect either. A lot of it comes down to personal preference I suppose... As carriers go, its pretty much a lose lose situation. I'm with Bell and have been for 10 years. My girlfriend is with Koodo. She seems to pay a bit less than I do every month for the same plan, but correct me if im wrong, I believe their phone selection is not as large as the big players? You have to go with a bit of an older phone. I myself have been considering switching to Koodo (although owned by Telus) I recently got a bill from Bell for 160 some $. Upon further investigation, seems Bell hiked their data overage rates by a whopping 500%.. Used to be an extra 10$/gig you went over, now its 5c/MB... Which is 50$ PER GIG......WT :$*%&: . Anyways after with arguing with a representative on the phone he agreed to add an extra gig onto my plan at no charge for the remainder of my two year contract. They are usually pretty good with their customer service. I've had to call them several other times due to overpriced bills and they really did their best to accommodate me and drop my bill even when I was in the fault. Good luck with whatever you choose! -

Numbering system works great, thanks for the input I think the knot tying tool you are referring to is called a tie-fast? I picked one up last year and it is money well spent. Perfect nail knot every time in seconds. It also can be used to tie nail knots to hooks which i found interesting. Here is a video of some different ways to use it! (I do not recommend using his hook sharpening technique at the end of the video)

Curious to know what others use for different various knots in their set up. Dry fly and nymphing. I myself have always used an improved clinch knot to tie a fly on but have recently been educated by a few big fish that the improved clinch is not always as strong as say a San Diego Jam knot. What knot do you use to tie tippet onto the shank of the first hook when setting up a double nymph rig? What do you use to connect leader to tippet? Maybe its time for a change but here is how I have set up my nymph rig for years : Fly Line Leader Tippet Tippet =================================*------------8--------------------------------------------------*-------------------------------*J*-----------------------*J Nail knot Indy Surgeon's knot Improved Clinch Improved Clinch for both of these

Anyone know how Riverbend/Quarry Park is doing? I'm at work out of town and cant reach my landlord. I read that it was evacuated but anyone know if it is flooded?
-
Up north working right now, my thoughts are with those south of me. I am also curious how this will affect the fishing after the flooding stops. What happened last time we had this amount of flooding in 2005?

Turner Valley-Sour Gas!
Dxh replied to fishinhogdaddy's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Oh good lord no, far from ok. <100 ppm will still cause you some serious eye, nose, throat and lung damage and can be fatal if exposed long enough. If I could smell H2S after a ruptured pipeline I wouldn't be hanging around there too long. -

H2S is nasty stuff. At first it smells like rotten eggs, your second breath you will smell nothing at all, and your third breath will be your last. Scary. Be careful down there!! -

Hello Just wondering if somone can recommend a good GPS for hiking. Thanks
-
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to go to get one done. I'm looking at bringing in a 81 chevy 3/4 ton truck out of BC that LOOKS to be in immaculate condition, but IMO these out of province inspections are just another government cash grab and a joke. I don't want to end up paying more than I am for the vehicle in repairs for things like "weather stripping worn" or "chip in windshield"... I miss the days when a friend with a mechanic license and a case of beer got this done for you... Not that I would do something like that.

HEY, no joking around here..

So when I, a C&R, leave nothing but my footprints AND take garbage off the bank with me, posts a joke followed by my answer to the question, I get a response like this. Go flame on your other Alberta magazine sponsored forum.

Thanks for all the advice guys. And girls. Yes when i made that money i was 18 years old, had 3 girlfriends and liked to party in Victoria BC. Bought a brand new halfton and a bunch of other crap i didnt need. I have deffinatly learned my lesson. I thought, "sh*t..there is nothing to this making money thing" Young and naive. That was my first real job basically. After a few more years in the real world and finding out what paying a debt off is actually like, I will never make those mistakes again. Its held me back from school, travel and a number of things I have really wanted to do in life. I'm young, have no wife or kids, just a girlfriend. Allthough I hate, hate it up there. I'm pretty sure im going to put my head down and go to work. Make some good money while the going is good and go from there. I really like my life the way it is now, but I'm going nowhere and have no guaranteed future. At least this way I can pay my debt off and have a sort of fresh start. Thanks again for all the advice, it definitely helped me make my decision.

Hey guys, just looking for some input here. I've been working in IT here in calgary for over a year now, and really love my job. It's fun and challenging. I'm home every night and make a decent wage. My boss is awesome and my friend. I make enough to live paycheck to paycheck anyways. I worked in the oilpatch previously making rediculous amounts of money, bought a whole lot of toys and im kind of in a bad financial situation now. It's going to take me nearly ten years to get out of this hole. Meanwhile giving the bank 20 grand interest. Today I was offered a job with a six figure income. Back up north, camp job. Early mornings, working outside in the snow, rain and heat. Fighting off bugs the size of tennis balls. Am i wrong to give up my dream job for money? Am i stupid not to take that kind of money? Anyways just looking for someone elses 2cents. Thanks.

Haha, nicely done. Weird to wear it around the house? Maybe.... I've never had a vest to call my own. I have made do with a backpack and the shore. I think my first vest I will wear to bed a few times just to get comfy in it. Let us know how you like it.
