  1. Usually when i have a 18"+ bow on the end of my line, and he/she decides to make an awesome acrobatic display, I'm far too much in a state of awe to really do anything. I have found though (in my short fly fishing career of 3 years) that doing nothing seems to work better than trying to keep the tension tight. I try to keep my tip high, and tighten up as soon as the fish hits the water again. Seems hit and miss. Maybe im doing it all wrong.
  2. Thanks guys, maybe I'll just take a drive down there and see what they say. I was just reading the fine print on my warrenty and yes doc, it says a 30$ service charge applies as far as i can understand. Pretty decent compaired to some other horror storys I've read. Thanks
  3. Hey guys. Just wondering if TFO stands by their lifetime gaurentee. Was out last week in the middle of the chinook swinging a big fat juicy worm in about 8 feet of water, when ....STRIKE..... i set the hook hard after loosing a few earlier on in the day. and then that awful sound nobody wants to hear. crrrrrrrrrrrack. the 4th piece (skinniest) part of my rod finally gave out about in the middle. I assume its from smacking some streamers against it a few times during the season. I have my origonal reciept, actually found it in my truck. My question is , has anyone attempted to return a TFO rod back for warrenty? Is it a big hassel? Should i drive to their HQ here in calgary or just send it in the mail? Do they have some kind of service charge? Anyways thanks for any response.
  4. What just happened to the last 40 seconds of my life
  5. I bought a pair last March (2010), wore them at LEAST 60+ times before they started to leak in the inner thigh section from stretching the seams from squatting when releasing a fish, took them back to basspro without a receipt, got them replaced with no questions. Still own the new pair and havnt had any problems with them at all. I really like the idea of a "cheap" pair. IMO doesnt matter what you buy, you will be replacing in 1-2 years anyways.
  6. Anyone with Netflix can now watch seasons 1 and 2........pretty cool show.
  7. Do NOT not not NOT fish ALONE on the ice. please. I knew the guy who fell through. We all love fishing and would do anything to go out and get a few casts. But please go with a buddy, its not worth it. RIP
  8. Nymphs nymphs and more nymphs. My first year on the flyrod was one to remember. What a frusterating river the bow is untill......well im not sure something just clicks and away you go. Started fishing in early March, dont think i caught one untill the beggining of April. What a thrill though when you finally land your first. Rough estimate i would say i made it to the river at least over 100 days, easily. Being unemployed has its bennifits. Makes for one helluva farmers tan and sunglass tan. Here are a few pics Bow, sept-oct sometime Only fish that died on me this year (to my knowledge), had a rough release. Tangled line, broken hook. Made a nice meal tho, NOT from the bow AND my highlight of the year, caught late april. 28 inch. Couldnt wipe the smile from my face that day. Great year for me! Still not done yet, 3 nice rainbows today Good luck next year everyone.
  9. Hey , no problem at all. If anyone is looking for a decent reel at an awesome price.. go see if you can get one before they are all gone. I got a chance to try it out today, works 10x better than what i had before. Very light and pretty sleek looking. I read a few reviews online that once the reel gets wet, the drag starts to lock up which worried me a little....but after a little slip and elbow deep in the river (rod reel and all) i can tell you i had no problems what so ever after it got wet. Besides the fact my sleeve started to freeze. 3 nice rainbows today though
  10. Hey guys, just bought a Whiteriver 270 6-7wt reel for my 5wt rod today at bass pro, they were having a clearance sale on it, from 220 down to 89, to make room for new model coming in. Anyways, anyone have any experience with this reel? I was a bit worried about the size of the reel for my 5wt TFO, but its really light i think it will be just fine. Anyone heard anything bad?
  11. Hahaha, too funny. Thanks for all the input from everyone. Also I just got a call I got the job I've been waiting for. AWESOME! Now I'll have to make a budget out. Bills/rent/grocerys < Fly tying
  12. Oops sorry. They are coming unravelled after maybe an hours use? Also not every fly, I would say about half of them I use. Some completely, others a few feathers or some phesant tail or some small part of the fly comes off. Just wondering if it was normal to ruin so many. Like I said I don't have too bad of a cast so I don't think I'm whipping them apart? Not hitting dirt/rocks behind me as I'm usually in the water facing upstream. Maybe I'll try the cement tip thank you. Yes Ive really considered tying my own an it is deffinatly something I will be looking into, currently between jobs and money is kind of tight allready. No wife so no problems
  13. Does anyone else ever notice the amount of flys that seem to come untied from either simply casting or a hard strike? Brand new from the store too at 2$ a piece. Is this normal? I'll be the first to admit my casting technique isn't perfect, but I'm deffinatly not " cracking the whip" anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong or is this just part of the expensive game. Thanks
  14. Hey, I've been fishing the little red almost everyday for about a month now. Only a little more south towards the sundre area. No pike at all, mostly browns and a few whitefish. Lately I've been running a bead head prince (size 14) with an evil weevle or something small and green( size 16-18) on the back. Nymph rig. Working very well for me, 4 browns today in about 4 hours. Nice size too , 14-18 inch. Good luck!
  15. Hey, was out tonight for a few hours down in fish creek. I managed to hook a 22" brown right by the tail. He fought for a good 10 minutes and took me into my backing twice. I was wondering what his chances of survival after being reeled in backwards like that for 10 minutes. That can't be good for the gills. When I got him in my net, he went sideways and lay there while I got the hook out. Once I turned him facing upstream again he Was right way up again and SLOWLY swam away he looked very tired but still aware. Curious what you guys think?
