  1. Not so much a hoax. Maybe a mistake. We've all been there(some longer ago than others). Done something really stupid and then run and hid, fearing the repercussions. I suspect jr released the balloon by accident...
  2. Boy was found...in the attic. Never went up with the balloon...
  3. Long-range says 18 next Saturday...
  4. And you were looking for what when you found this??
  5. Which he may not do if he weren't tying flies... Yeah...great system... absolutley horrible if you ask me...
  6. Yes...$9.98 to be exact. I relieved them of a few dozen about a week ago...
  7. Bingo. Teaching kids to respect elders, authority, parents etc is not something you start when they're 16. I've got twin 18 year-old boys. They know respect and have known it since they were old enough to grasp the concept. Nothing else was acceptable. My boys are both 6 ft now. Their mother is 5 ft. She says "jump" and they still say "how high". Until they no longer live under my roof, nothing else will be acceptable. They bought in to that concept long ago...
  8. Perhaps she is making "good money" in her opinion. It certainly is good when compared to the alternative of no money. If she were making the kind of money you feel she should make, is it possible someone more hungry and more desperate may cause her harm just to get her job? I know this was brought forth when the Nike situation in the Orient was first discussed many years ago. This needs to be kept in perspective. There are not the social service networks to fall back on in some countries like we have here. If a job pays enough to keep a family fed and sheltered wherever that family lives, life is good for that family, regardless of what that job pays...
  9. You sure about that? The website, for one, is defunct. I know it's on the back of the maps but I wonder if there's a reason SilverDoctor is looking for one here...
  10. Hah...knew it would pop up. I'm sitting in the red Versa. Happened to be sitting there as the camera car drove around the cul-de-sac... http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=...,339.51,,1,7.27
  11. I have this map sitting on my desk...was part of a bunch of fly fishing stuff I just acquired. Never had one before. Can't see I'll need one any time soon...
  12. Have you had a chance to listen to Steve Earl's new album, "Townes"? Fabulous piece of work...
  13. And a tear jerker just for fun... Click here if the movie does not play. For those of you who don't know, Allison and Shelby are sisters. When they were little girls, they witnessed their father murder their mother and then kill himself. This is the song they wrote to the mom they had to grow up without.
  14. I can't see any white stripes on the leading edges of the lower fins so I'm inclined to say not a Bull Trout. Hard to say with any degree of certainty though. Not a lot of fish get that big (tough to tell scale in the photo too) though. The tail looks forked which would make one lean towards a Lake Trout if it's actually of the Trout/Char families. Could also be a Burbot, I suppose, although the nose seems too pointed. The eyes look to be too far horizontal to be a trout. Go back and get a better picture...
  15. Nose is too pointed. I'll go with Whitefish as well. Maybe a Sucker?
  16. Don't know what the airtime/data packages are like but I suspect, like anything else in this world, it isn't going to be cheap. There is a reason they can GIVE the stick away...
  17. I have no intention of participating in a b1tch session so the chances of me getting nailed for slander are somewhere between slim and none. I was merely pointing out, as others have, that your statement was so far the other way that it was a "pot calling the kettle black" moment...
  18. Hmmm...seems the right to free speech might be in jeopardy here. Did it hit a little close to home perhaps? While I admit saying xyz store "sucks" is a pretty general statement, I should think we have the right to express our displeasure if we've had a bad experience somewhere. In fact, I think if you read this entire thread, you may find that exact thing. Is this forum not an extension of the whole "word of mouth" system we all rely on so heavily? Why would we keep a negative experience to ourselves then? If this were the case, should we not keep all our opinions to ourselves? Perhaps the "young man" could edit his statement to explain why he feels this way but I don't think there is anything wrong with expressing one's opinion, positive or negative. To quote a long-forgotten songwriter... "One looked like a can full of worms, the other looked like malaria germs" . Sort of what you might be opening up....
  19. My net is 18" from tip to tip. 2 or 3 inches is a whole lot easier to guesstimate than 20 or 21... edit....Is anything under 18" worth measuring anyway?
  20. I'm all for supporting the local stores and do it as often as possible but pure economics comes into play sometimes. $9 for a pair of neoprene socks at MEC says I don't look for them anywhere else...
  21. My head hurt just reading that post...
  22. That there is the true meaning of "worm dunker"....
  23. I wonder if that's because it's bloody difficult to fish illegally with a fly rod other than to not squeeze the barb? If you checked every fly fisherman out there to see if his/her barb was squeezed down, would your tune change? I suspect it might...
  24. I don't think anyone is asking anyone to turn a blind eye and act like this stuff never happens. It likely happens more often than any of us cares to believe. Did you read my post in "fishing finds" about the Ford Fender setup and chain stringer on the Livingstone? You think I was happy to see that? Absolutely not. Would I have done something had I caught the perpetrators red-handed? You bet. Was there anything I could do at that point? Nope. Shake my head and carry on with the hope that the jack-asses that thought that was cool would eventually be stupid enough to get caught. Unfortunately there are far too many miles of rivers and far too few conservation officers to keep it under control. I might add if there suddenly were enough conservation officers to patrol these rivers we'd all be bitching about having to pull our waders off to get our wallets out to show our fishing licenses...
  25. There is a big difference between a "worm dunker" and some guy tossing a Panther Martin, Mepps or a Len Thompson 5 of Diamonds with a single barbless hook... You can't paint all fishermen with a single brush. There are many spinner fishermen that are law-abiding citizens and have a concern for the environment, the ecology and the health of the fish. A fellow "worm dunker" and I spent many hours on Quirk Creek a few years back participating in that project. We weren't the only spinner fishermen to participate either. Sounds like you are saying once a loser, always a loser. Sorry...it's statements like this that give fly fishermen the elitist stereotype some of us are trying to dispel. Apparently some are happy to add credence to that stereotype. This is unfortunate. Does the fact that I have spinning equipment and use it once in a while make me a lesser being than you? Well...I also have a split-cane fly rod. Guess were even then huh?
