It isn't Shaw it's just the local cable company called Slave Lake Cable TV. I think it is happening because this company doesn't have complete control over the cable signal and nobody has told them about it yet. Yes it is just digital cable but it is definitely in HD. The channels are coming in like 74.3 is Discovery HD and 76.1 is TSN HD. So it is working like digital cable but the tuner in the TV is picking up the HD. You can definitely tell that it is HD not just digital cable. Man is it sweet

Hey guys! I am up in Slave Lake right now and have an HDTV but was to cheap to buy HDTV cable. Recently I scanned my TV channels all the way through and it picked up a whole bunch of HDTV cable. I have only paid for the basic cable but because my TV has an ATSC tuner and picks it up. So maybe it is worth looking with your cable to see if you get any HDTV channels. It might be because I am in Slave Lake and they don't control their cable completely. Check it out and see what happens, I am getting a $60 HD package for $25 lol PS: I am watching Hockey Night in Canada in HD and wow is it good! Toronto may look better in high def but they still lose!

You guys were talking about the fly tipping over due to the parachute post. Is there a formula or comparison measurement to how long those parachute posts should be? Also could you use a foam extendo body? Is it critical you get the tail in there? Thanks!

That sounds great Harps! Put out a bunch of hula hoops and play casting drinking games lol Reach cast around a hula hoop and place the fly in another hula hoop at 45 feet! Sounds like fuuun!

Wow that is awesome. Not to be critical or anything but do flies like that work? I haven't been fly fishing for to long and don't know to much about the actual fishing part haha. Sorry no fly from me, stuff in transport still.

Could you tie that pattern with a conehead weight or bead headed weight on the front? Is it still called the same thing? Small pike like these things to!

No fly from me this time, all my tying stuff is packed away ready for the long haul to Lethbridge this weekend. Some nice flies though thats for sure!

Hey Pete, The college I work at bought a Sony HDR-HC5, it shoots in 1080i. Pretty sweet camera with all the bells and whistles. Haven't played with it too much but enough to review it. First off the HD is excellent and looks very crisp. There is an HDMI connector on it to plug direct into the TV. The LCD screen is big and is a touch screen which is suprisingly fun to use and accurate on your touches. There is a multitude of shooting modes, HD or not, photos, widescreen, etc so quite versitile. This one has a night vision mode which is really cool, kinda blair witch project feel about it haha There is on screen battery meter so you know how much time you have left shooting, or just in standby. It is a pretty long battery life, we'll see how long it lasts though. The photo feature is a 4 mega pix camera that shoots direct to memory stick duo. With the sony brand it will only take sony memory sticks. It shoots to HDV which I recommend over the newer hard drive and DVD ones, the tapes are more versitiles and capture almost better than the Hard drives do. Plus if you drop the camera you don't have to worry about your Hard drive being erased accidently. You also can create an archive with tapes. DVD's are very compressed and terrible for editing on the computer with. It has firewire and USB out to the computer and component, RCA cable and HDMI out to the TV. Overall the HD is nice but I couldn't really justify spending that much more for it. May as well get a high end DV camera and it should work well for you. If most of the video you are shooting will go onto the web it will get compressed down quite a bit anyway. Hope that helps! Any other questions? Harps, I'll probably be doing some contract work for the college in SL as well as some in Lethbridge. But I will be living in Lethbridge. Rent is going up to a ridiculous amount in Jan here in SL and the job is pretty boring so I am going to move back to Leth.

I am going to be back in Lethbridge January I think so I can come anytime then!

haha it sounds like there is goin to be a whole herd of us. Probably need to book a whole campground! We need to make sure there are a bunch of rivers around so we can spread out. Otherwise there will be 50 people in one run haha Anyway sounds like good fun no matter what!

Slave Lake is fuuuuuuuuun haha It is winter here and everything is about frozen up now. Went out on the weekend river pike fishing, couple hits but nothing landed. Had a bad case of the icy guides though. I practice casting in the gym of the college I work at. Yesterday I was casting pretty well, walked one out to 69 feet. Couldn't cast any further because the backcast hit the wall and the front cast hit the wall haha

Mono for the legs? Would the fish be able to see it? I guess as long as the body isn't clear as well haha
