  1. Just got back from several days in BC. Most streams were fishable on opening day but conditions definately got better the further west I went.

Michel and Alexander were pretty high and dirty. Probably a couple more weeks.

The Elk was starting to look good late last week but dirtied up again with all the recent rain. It was fishable on opening day but not really worth it for the CW license (still a little high and off color). Dirtied up again today with all the rain. Should be getting in shape very soon.

The St. Mary and Bull were both still a little high but crystal clear and very fishable.

Many smaller streams were in pretty good shape too, conditions get steadily better the further west you go.

Great to hear.. I'm hitting up the Elk this year for sure!

  2. I hiked into Coral lake a couple of years ago. The hike itself is not too bad, can be done in a day 12-16hrs if you're fit and truckin it! We took it pretty easy on the way up as we were staying up there for a few days and the fact that we had fifty pounds of gear on our backs. We arrived at the lake in two days but it was well worth it. Fishing lakes you can use scuds 16-18 and leeches 10-12, we were doing fairly well with the scuds. As soon as the sun cleared the mountains the lake started to boil which is when we had our best fishing, then and before sun up. The fish were pretty small and you can bring a three weight but pack a five as well because the wind up there can get pretty bad at times. On the way out with a lot less gear and hungry for something other than cous-cous or rice we made the hike out in 14hrs.

If you or anybody plans on going there be respectful of the land you're in, it really beautiful up there and try to leave it as you found it.

That's pretty hardcore LK!! I'm sure it'd be a blast though!

  3. Montana sounds like a popular flyfishing destination.

Can't be better than sweet home alberta streams can it. Why drive so far when we got great fishing here, correct me if I'm wrong here...

My undestanding is that Alberta and Montana are almost identical when it comes to trout streams. Althought... A River Runs Through It was set in Montana.. not Alberta. :)

  4. Hey Birchy,

Where exactly did you live? I grew up there as well, my dad lives just outside of Louisburg on Catalone Lake and owns the land adjacent to the river. My mom sent me the clipping from the C.B. Post, I went to school with Charlie's younger brother. Did you go to Riverview?

Grew up in Sydney Forks and went to Riverview, yes.
