480 is my guess.

OK, how did you think of that? I am really starting to believe are a cyborg, or at least the manifestation of the wired up guys from SciFi books.
Birchy, do you have to get your rings built at a casing supply company?
lol.. size 14 and getting bigger by the day.

I NEVER wade over my waist - if I do then I'm drowning. Goin' to git me a pair tonight!
How generous are you feeling? You can get me a pair too if you want..
-
Last night we were over our waist Birchy. You would have been changing your underwear while I would have been fishing.
True enough.
But I almost always fall in the water anyways...
-
I'm kind of torn on this one.
I'm thinking about how few times I ever wade over my waist, combined with the comfort of just having pants, VERSUS the fact that Murphy and his stupid law gets me everytime I think I have a good idea!
I guess one thing that helps my decision is that I really want Wardell's, and I don't think they make wading pants.

Based on the comparison between the two photos and the spacing between the fingers, I would estimate that the second whitefish was about 22 inches. At 22 inches and thick that whitefish was likely about 4 lbs, maybe 4 1/2.
Well.. the Alberta Record is 5.656 pounds:

So mine was at least 5.657.

Gave him quite the nasty gash!!
Which is why I never put my hands anywhere near those darn things mouths!!

LOL!! I didn't even notice that the first time!! I thought CDock posted it.. totally missed yours above it!!
LynnF - No worries at all! It's one of those rare things. I'm having surgery done on Aug. 10 to start treatment. The good thing is they caught it early.. I'm only 26 and most people aren't diagnosed until their mid 40's.
-
wow...you do have some Fred Munster mitts going on there Birchy!
So where'd you catch that second whitefish? I love whitefish...they're my favourite.
Yeh.. Big hands are a family trait.. PLUS, I recently found out I have Acromegaly. Funny you say that because it's the same thing that "Lurch" in the Addams Family had! haha.. As well as Andre the Giant, Richard Kiel (actor that played "Jaws" in the old Bond movies, and Happy Gilmore's boss), The Big Show (WWE wrestler), etc. Only thing is.. I don't get to be 7+ feet tall!
Caught that guy on the Red Deer just down from the boat launch below Dickson Dam.
-
I don't know....with the tail pinch rule, I'd maybe give you 15", 15.5" if I'm generous.
Pssft! Last time I take you out to catch your FIRST FLY ROD FISH EVER!!
-
No no.. not FLY fish alberta..
Just Fish Alberta. www.fishalberta.com.

Me holding a 16" whitefish (he's kinda bent up towards the camera.. couldn't get him flat):
Compared to this picture you may, or may not, have seen before:

Did I mention to you guys that when I was in Orlando for the Microsoft Tech-Ed conference that for the keynote address they had Christopher Lloyd there in character as Doc.. WITH THE DELOREAN!!!

Glenbow has a secret fish Coral out at Lower K. He whispers to them and they come to him. He then bonks them and uses his special seasoning and sushi cubes em.
If you posted that on the "Fishing Alberta" forums they would rally the troops and string you up.
CDock posted something like that before as a joke and people were literally saying "where do you live, i'm reporting you to RAP". It was so funny! But it got so insane that he had to get a different sign on name!! LOL
We don't even bother visiting that site anymore because of all the flaming and arguing that goes on.

I know I'm only in my first year, but I think I'm going to take the ultimate challenge and try to master the THNT before year end!
-
CDock and I pulled about 15 out last night, but we got the majority of them on a little creek that runs into the Highwood. Only 3 on the Highwood.
-
Jordan,
It's my first year and I went to Russell's and got the Temple Fork NXT combo.
It's the TFO Signature Series (green) 9 foot - 6 weight, the TFO NXT series reel, and it includes the line, leader, and backing for $179 + taxes. Or if you want the fancy TFO rod case then it's $249.

Rigging dry flies with a dropper..
Wouldn't the weight of the dropper pull the dry under?
-
Priceless!

Yeah I'm starting to feel like an idiot myself for starting this thread. I was just irritated at the fact that these guys are posting these videos and acting like professionals, other people are watching and thinking they are professionals, and therefore "learning" from them.
AND the fact that, according to their blog, they're taking people out and guiding them.
Either way, I'm not going to post on their blog calling them idiots, and I'm not going to offer suggestions either because I'm a brand new fly fisherman myself and still have lots to learn.
I'd almost rather if the admins just pull this thread and we not speak of it again!

Here is a pic of the Griz in the out flow on the lower K
I don't think it's the same Bear due to the color on the Back but it's good to see the high numbers
The one we posted was the one we saw on the highway on the way there.
We'll post the picture of the one we saw at the outflow, but I'm sure that's her.

Anyone know how much of a difference there is between the $245 Economy Breathables, and the $420 Deluxe Breathables?
I suppose it's the whole "you get what you pay for" thing. But I would imagine that only fishing once per week on average would allow me to get away with the cheaper ones?
