  1. rainbows (steelhead)...period. as long as were talkin freshwater that is. god damn try gettin one of those monster rainbows from the columbia down around castlegar using light stuff...HA

There's big rainbows in the Columbia by Castlegar?!?? :D That's where my mother in law lives.. and we go there often. Last few times (since I started fly fishing) I've thought, I wonder if there's good fishing in there??

  2. Oh yeh.. I fell in the water too!! That was great fun. Had sneakers and pants on.. no waders, and murphy's law got me!! Haha.

Had my first experience chucking big streamers - you guys are right.. hearing those things zip by your ears is great - and when I was throwing one I slipped on the muddy bank right into the water! I thought I was going to keep going too because it was a big drop off! Finally got some grip at waist depth! haha.. took me awhile to climb out too because I kept slipping!!

  3. Great report SJW!! And great pictures! Those fish are gorgeous. I think maybe CDock and I are going to have to start thinking about making a Montana trip. The topic has come up before actually.

Curious how much the whole trip cost you including gas, food, and accomodations? Just so I have an idea. You can PM me if you want.

  4. Looking forward to hearing a report guys. Drove out myself this morn to have a look around and to show a friend the lakes. Didn't have time to fish but the lower lake seemed ok but the upper was windy. Hope you guys managed to hook some brutes

    Two words:

    SKUNK CITY!!

We hit the Upper Lake first around where the little Transalta Hydro station is, tried a bunch of different streamers and CDock tried some nymphs too and didn't get any hits at all. Didn't even see any fish in the water. After about an hour we decided to try the lower lake, where the little creek runs into the lake. Again, no hits, nothing. CDock did see 5 big bullies swimming towards his streamer but then they just veered off and he didn't see them again.

We DID however see THREE grizzlies!! We saw one good sized young male on the side of highway 40, got some good pictures and video of him. And then we saw a mother and a cub on the lower lake. A guy driving by stopped and warned us that she was walking by up on the road.. literally like 50 feet behind us where I parked my car. We saw one of the cubs and we saw her, but not the other cub. Got some video and pictures of her too. We're almost positive it was the same grizzly that BigBowTrout saw and took a picture of, because she was in that exact same spot. Very cool. :D

  5. Birchy, I've been waiting for 5 months for these new TFO's to get here. Fish Tales are bringing them in very soon and I will be casting them as soon as they arrive. I heard a few reports from Spey casters who were involved in the developement and testing and the word is...awesome rods.

    Thanks for posting.

Well.. now I know what to get if I want to try out a Spey rod! haha.

    No problem.

    .

..that means a brookie is on the line LOL

Last couple years have had great surface hatch on opening evening....biggest hook-ups usually feature the mottled dorsal you seek...

    Can't wait!

Gets me thinking.. how do brookies compare to bull's when it comes to the fight? I've heard that bull trout are the hardest fighting trout, but I've heard lots about the brookies too!
