  1. Cool. You can buy both of them together on Amazon.com for $93. http://www.amazon.com/Benchside-Introducti...4961557-0822432
  2. CDock has this one book too that is coil bound.. and the pages flip seperately. The top 3/4 is how to tie the fly, and the bottom 1/4 is how to do the basics.. like the hackle and wings and dubbing and stuff. (I think?) Is this the one?
  3. A friend of ours can lick her elbow, my wife saw her do it. She's very skinny and very flexible.
  4. That's pretty sweet! Well.. to hear that is. No way in H E double hockey sticks I'd be doing that myself! Well.. maybe for some guaranteed good fishing. Did you happen to see any sasquatch?

    Worms

I've had my best success with wire wrap and chenille both.. but always with a bead head. I don't think I've ever caught a trout on a non bead head SJW.
  6. Had been in Indigo/Chapters a few times and mentioned to my wife that "I want to get this book when I start tying.." Got home yesterday and "The Fly-Tying Bible" was laying on the bed for me as a gift!
  7. Used to do that all the time when I was a "little hellion".. and yes, I called them walks.
  8. When cheese gets it's picture taken, what does it say?
  9. No doubt! And being an IT guy myself... it's been a LOOOONNG time since I've seen a computer that didn't have IE 6 or higher!
  10. Geez rick.. even your "short and sweet" stories are a riot!! I fell in the river the other day too! The Livingstone. Fortunately I fell in sideways and it was my side that I don't carry the camera in! I'm getting more and more ammo every time to break our budget and convince my wife to let me splurge on wading boots that we can't really afford right now!
  11. Amazing pics man! Thanks for sharing. Looks like an amazing trip. I can't wait to have one of those! 30" bullies are the MEDIUM range?? Nice!!
  12. I don't usually like these fuzzy heartwarming stories, but this one is truly interesting.. In 1986, Mkele Mbembe was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University. On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Mbembe approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Mbembe worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Mbembe stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Mbembe never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty years later, Mbembe was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Mbembe and his son, Tapu were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Mbembe, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man. Remembering the encounter in 1986, Mbembe couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. Mbembe summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Mbembe' s legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly. Probably wasn't the same elephant.
  13. How long did it run with the old oil? Probably would have been a good idea to change it first. I would put new oil in it right away if you're going to run it again. There's a good chance that it will be fine, but there's also a chance that if it ran on the old oil for a length of time it could have done some damage that will surface in the near future.
  14. haha.. you can call it "The William Wallace". Great fish mang!
  15. What does the pearl flash tail simulate?
  16. Not sure that I'll ever buy fly fishing gear from Can Tire. This is why.. A few months back my coworker goes in to Can Tire to get some flies.. he asks that sporting goods worker if they carry San Juan Worms. The clerk was like "San Juam Worm? What's that? I've never heard of a San Juan Worm."
  17. Cool. I'm checking that out for sure.
