  1. Add yourself to my list of most hated people! Its people like you and pictures like this that motivate me to cut my forearms to relieve the empty feeling I have inside. I just want to feel something.... and I miss it too much up there to feel satisfied in Calgary this time of year. I'm obviously not THAT depressed about not being there, but its close. Can't wait to have my own life and own decisions so I can make trips there.
  2. Watchin' fox news much? Have to be brilliant to bring up the Hitler argument at every single chance possible...
  3. I had bed bugs at one point here in Calgary renting a basement suite. At least I think I did. I actually never got a chance to see them but sure did seem like thats what it was. I took my bed out on one of those -20 days and left it outside for a while - no more bug bites after that.
  4. This guy has been one of my favorite authors for a loong time. I hope this gets more people reading his stuff ( I assume it will). Brothers K is an epic novel.
  5. I honestly hate you right now, and medical school in which I can't take any vacation for the whole year. Honestly am so pissed at you right now...

  7. Awesome stuff... hope you know how lucky you are to have seen those guys.... might not be around much longer. Southern herd isn't doing to well overall.. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story/20...ou-numbers.html
  8. theres got to be a better route...
  9. While there are definitely some narcissistic traits evident in what you've said so far, I can't begin to understand what your reasoning is for not helping other people enjoy their day. You've been fishing the river since before there were fly shops in town, so you must be an older guy, and I can't believe that you're still so childish about the sport. What well-adjusted person wouldn't want to make someone else smile and happy for a day? What great fisherman who's caught thousands of fish in his life would still be so selfish about each and every fish so much so that he wouldn't be willing to give a couple up per day to help someone struggling to catch those couple fish? And really, it's quite ridiculous to think that by telling some people as you float by what fly you're using will somehow negatively affect your quota some other day on some other float down the river. Also, check your ego at the door man. You're used to fishing one of the easiest rivers in the world (like most of western canada) and you do it about as well as someone should given as much as you've supposedly fished it. Yea you might catch more than the average joe who fishes a couple times a year, but I doubt you're really blowing away ALL those walk and wade fishermen (because you float the river.) I can't wrap my brain around why you wouldn't want to offer advice and tips to other people, it's something I love having the opportunity to do, and what a great feeling if they go and catch some fish too. Sorry but you're really rubbing me the wrong way the way you talk about yourself and the whole topic of the thread. As you can see you're greatly outnumbered in terms of who wants to help ppl and who doesn't... you should think about that.
  10. Only time stands in the way of that fishery becoming crowded as well.... and oh well. Thats life with internet I guess. Hope I dont live long enough to see it altered...
  11. anyone go outside the city and see them last night?? Wonder when would be best to see them tonight...
  12. hahaha. It was humor. For all of Calgary's culture talk, this is probably in the top three cities I want to live in the whole world. It's got some awesome stuff about it. Once I'm done school I'll head back home (to my nirvana), but I will really miss the Bow and how close it is to the Parks.
  13. Yea it really pisses me off too when people from elsewhere talk about a lack of culture here in Calgary. Calgary and Alberta DEFINITELY are not lacking in culture. Anthropology definition of culture: the sum total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to another. Calgary's culture is strong and alive: 1) Everything in the province where people reside must be built around cars, roads, traffic lights and if not, adjusted accordingly. 2) The pinnacle of man is to drive in a truck. The supreme pinnacle is to drive in a truck, exclusively within city limits, never off pavement, and to never haul or put anything in the bed. Parking a large truck in small parking stalls is a sign of success. 3) The only food that is worth eating is from franchise restaurants or private enterprises that do not actually serve authentic ethnic foods, other than american. 4) Every new neighborhood shall have no more than one family in each housing unit, be only accessible by car (truck), and ideally have its own shopping mall. The street names shall ideally be named according to a theme. 5) Imitation of the greatest country on earth shall be the mandate. USA! 6) Although over 80% of the population lives in urban areas, and most the population wasn't born here, we will continue to pretend that we are a ranching province and city, and wear cowboy hats in celebration of this. And we will drive trucks. 7) The top nine ethnic groups represented in Alberta are of caucasian (as the term is incorrectly used) decent, so our overt racism to any group of color is well-understood by our unfamiliarity of those outside cultures. 8) No matter what, NO MATTER WHAT, we will never consider the oil sands to be a bad idea. 9) We will forever be so grateful that the boundary lines were drawn as they are, for if our province line was shifted 75 km to the east in its southern reaches, we couldn't really have anything to be thankful for. 10) Last, but not least, we shall never let any hippy tell us that idling our truck is a bad thing. Oil is great for the economy. These are just a small part of our great culture in alberta. Anyone that tries to tell you different, let them know, our culture is strong and unwavering in the greatest province on earth! USA!
  14. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I love watching the world cup. There's just something about it seeing all the world come together to play a sport they're all crazy about. The skill involved in everything they do is out of this world. To say it's boring to watch can only be taken for as much as your word is worth - it's far more popular than any other sport in this world so I would guess others don't agree. Every sport is like that. I hate watching hockey, it's just back and forth back and forth and when a team wants to give up on defense they can just throw the puck down the other side of the rink all game. Obv lots of Canadians love watching hockey. I hate tennis, it's just two people hitting it back and forth back and forth, messing up once in a while for a point. Lots of people like watching tennis. Baseball, golf, nascar etc etc its all boring unless you know the game and usually if you've played the game and understand the game. Otherwise sports are boring as anything. You have to have an interest for whatever reason. I wouldn't say soccer is more boring than other sport though...
  15. Is that a joke, or?
  16. That sounds pretty PETA/Greenpeace of you, kinda hippyish. You dont want to be THAT guy do you?
  17. I have had the same problem as you in the past, it is near impossible to take pictures of fish when you're by yourself and the fish isnt tired, unless you've had a ton of experience like max and others. But after many years of wanting to show off fish pictures, I've completely lost the motivation to get pictures of fish, unless its an exceptional fish for whatever reason, or a new river or lake somewhere that I want to remember down the road. And even then, there's something neat about knowing you caught it all alone, and only you know how nice the fish was, and trying to keep that image stored inside your head instead of a computer. I'm not a guide so I don't have any reason to show people how many fish I catch or how big they are, and I don't even bring my camera anymore usually.
  18. In their own eyes people see themselves as a perfect angel and everyone outside of that is crazy, stupid, immature, mean, bitchy, short-tempered, illogical. And the only time they'd do anything outside of what Jesus would do is when the rest of those other crazy, stupid, immature etc people deserve it by living their lives in the wrong way. And yea just pushing buttons about the trucks. It is true you can only drive one at a time. Even though it is kinda funny to have four trucks for two people, at least to my circle of family and friends and myself. I can understand if you were a collector... but otherwise, funny.
  19. I totally caught on to your passive aggressiveness actually. I did notice that you pretended to agree with his means, but not his methods. I did notice that not all of your post was bitchy. But parts of it were, especially calling him a greenpeace/peta lover, and then later in your imaginary scenario making greenpeace/peta lover sound like a lunatic, and then also "do you really want to be THAT GUY??? the guy to who complains about the kind of soap you use to wash your car and sits in the tree down the street just to get video of it because you have nothing better to do with your days... how sad is that to be THAT GUY???" This guy said nothing in his post to be compared to THAT GUY in your imaginary scenario. Don't put him down like that, and I dont care if he was offended by it or not, I was. that's a personal attack. And I'm glad you've tried to explain/defend yourself. I still don't think its reasonable to buy cleaning supplies for your neighbors to wash their car with or to print off brochures for them to read. Approaching them in a nice way about it should be enough, if they're dicks about it then I'd call in too. Not print off information booklets and buy samples for them. And you and your husband own 4 trucks??? that's hilarious, in a sad way. Oh alberta.....
  20. Dear environmental rapist/oil-sand zealot, The guy said he tried to inform and educate first off. His neighbors didn't want to hear anything about it and they got pissed when they were told its not legal. I'd try to call em in after trying to be nice first as well. I don't want that sh** in my environment or the rivers. Who the hell are you? Why are you being such a bitch? There's nothing sad about this guys life and there's nothing to suggest anything about his political beliefs or organizations he supports. You really want to be THAT PERSON? The one who goes out of their way to piss people off instead of just trying to make people happy? I swear you just bragged about pissing someone off on purpose, was it a little old lady working on her garden?. I hope to god that most albertans aren't as ignorant and red-neck evil as you. I'm glad that most the albertans I've met have been really nice and great people. Just totally lost any respect I could have had for someone on a message board online.
  21. X2 except i would recommend the other way around, saving floe lake and numa pass for the last day, all the up and down on this hike is really something, and saving the best for last is really rewarding after a couple days of hiking. Its amazing seeing floe lake for the first time coming over that pass, and then camping at the lake your last night you have a pretty easy mostly downhill hike down to the parking lot. not to mention the campsite at floe lake is the best of all of them along the trail and you'll love sitting along the lake all evening long winding down, collecting your thoughts before heading back to the city in front of that beautiful lake. So yea I'd recommend going in Tumbling creek, somehow going to see rockwall pass either that first afternoon or the next morning, onto floe lake the next day, camping there the second night, then hiking out.
  22. You should just rephrase it something like 'Unless you have a valid contraindication to hiking, then in order to be able to fish for them you should have to hike in.' And valid as determined by me... And I'd agree. Being lazy is just boring. And so un-Canadian. Take an adventure and do the hike, I'm sure it exponentially increases the satisfaction.
  23. Theres lots of trout weight calculators online if you google it quickly. Some use length only, others length and girth which is more accurate... but just the length estimate is pretty accurate for trout in a river...
  24. And this is the process by which Alberta gets its reputation.........
  25. Of course I dont have time to read through this whole thread, all I can say is - I FREAKING LOVE THE PARKS. They are my favorite places in the world. I feel blessed every day that I live so close to them and get to visit them so often. I can't imagine ever complaining about them they truly are like heaven to me, not even just heaven on earth. If I could design a heaven for myself it would be something very very similar to all the places Ive been in the parks. My vote would be to keep the parks exactly how they are Ive never once gone to do what I do in the parks and ever had a negative thought about them. Come to my side you overthoughtful intelligentsia, ignorance is sooooo blissful. I'm so very glad Im oblivious to the whole world's problems (including any the parks might have) when I'm sitting there in front of a huge mountain with a little lake in front and no one around me.... I cant express it enough.... It's Canada, the mountains, my home. Im the luckiest person alive.
