Set the hook as soon as you see anything out of the ordinary. Sometimes it is only a tiny slow down during a float/swing of the indicator. When fishing calm water, you might only see a rotation of the indicator rather than the indicator being submerged. The faster you set the hook the better. As the length of the leader increases, so must the aggressiveness of the strike. Hit 'em quick, hit 'em hard. The biggest reason for missing those quick, tiny hits are because they are often from small fish slashing at your fly. Bigger fish are more deliberate and usually your indicator goes down nicely.

Sockeye are usually "caught" by flossing by the locals. Long leader, bottom bouncing, line through the mouth and then hook snags on the outside of the mouth.

I have a friend who takes his float tube out into the big back eddies to fish with a caddis. He said you just have to watch out for the whirlpool action! Real fisherman have no fear.

Warm water holds less oxygen. Temps around 26-27C are very stressful for trout as they have a hard time getting enough oxygen from the water. As stress increases, the immune system has a harder time fighting pathogens. High temp, bacteria and viruses become big factors in the warm weather.

I wonder with all the wounded Cutts in the Stone if it isn't time to stop the nymphing and make it a dry fly river. Maybe it's time to impose this as a personal rule (for all you who are going to cry elitist). It would be nice to see more fish with both their maxilla at the end of the summer.

I use a 10' rod for lake fishing and like it a lot. Haven't used it in the river, but I imagine it would great for nymphing.

Bring a full sink line and wooly buggers and target the bass in Christina. I've caught them to 6lb

Have any of you camped at Cottonwood? Do you have to have a reservation to camp there? Last minute change in plans has me searching for a new spot to take the family.

They are made by the guy who used to run Redington. I have read some reviews that talk of rods breaking quite easily. The guys who fish in the salt don't rate them very high. The old K river channel actually flows into the very south end of lower K lake.

Use a ruler and a knife and cut a bunch of the right sized strips out of the bag. Wrap wire over the plastic as your last step. You can also change appearance by folding something else under the plastic first.

The cheaper hooks will bend open on heavy fish. Sharpening heavy wire hooks and nymphs bounced along the bottom is a good idea.

Dave, last time I was there we met some dudes from the east coast who were carrying they're .44 pistols because they were in Montana grizzly country. Pretty funny since the Bighorn flows through an area more like Vulcan than the Crowsnest.

Bulls don't jump, rarely run at any speed and don't change direction that much. Therefore you rarely loose one once it is hooked. I'd vote for a rainbow hooked in shallow water as the best fight.

Greg. The Bighorn flows right out of the bottom of a large reservoir--very cold water from the bottom. Even if it is 30C outside the water is still very cold for wet wading. Dave, did you see any carp in the afterdam or in the river? Did you use some small sowbugs?

Some Mustads will rust. Dai-riki are very brittle. Daiichi and Tiemco are quite good. Mustad signature series supposed to be good.

The population is not as threaten in BC

The upper lake bulls came from the hatchery. Lower lake ones came out of S-D creek

The lightening show was awesome tonight as I sat in my tube fighting fat pond fish.

Randy you can also tie a parachute caddis so it sits lower in the surface film. Use turkey for the wings instead of hair.
