  1. Brownstone, the trout tank is part of a tank system I maintain for research purposes. It holds about 400L of water and has a partial flow-through coming via a dechlorinator. The bulk of the water is recirculated through a big gravel filter. Weedy, all I can say is that I am more surprised than you. I have had these trout for about 3 years. Usually they just try and wack my arm with their tails as a defense behavior. When this one bite me today I was just laughing with astonishment. Good thing they aren't Bulls. I might not have made it out alive!
  2. I have 2 pet rainbows around 18" living in a big tank. I had to retreive something out of their tank today and when I stuck my arm under the water I was attacked. Never been bit by a trout before. She even drew blood! Be careful out there...
  3. I'm with you Rick. As a person with a degree in Zoology and Ecology I find you have to have more faith to believe the scientists than the Bible.
  4. Great show! Thanks for taking the time and effort. It's great to see someone so willing to share.
  5. We do this at BH sometimes. It is the take that is the most fun. Many times lake fish don't fight that great.
  6. Both my buddy and I have caught one on the SJW. I also stepped on a 30"+ one a long time ago. They are native fish that have always been in the Bow/Highwood/Sheep.
  7. The only problem when using long fluoro leaders is that they sink between the fly line and corkie. This is not an issue at BH since you are fishing in shallow water. At other lakes where you need 20+ ft leaders, it is better to use a mono leader with fluoro tippet.
  8. For lake fishing I've been tying 10lb Berkley Transition (gold fluro) on to 14lb mono with 5 wrap cinch knots. Very rarely do I have any breakage. It's a great system for dragging fish through the weeds.
  9. Check this out: http://www.badger.rchomepage.com/pontoon_boat.html
  10. Ham, what size of neoprenes do you need? I have a new pair of Large/short, 5mm Springbrooks that need a home.
  11. Kyle is still young and invincible-besides the water really isn't that cold up there anyway.
  12. We have been seeing lots of Swainson's while out Hun hunting. We even saw a few Rough-legged fellows.
  13. Jeffro, love the Cinnamon teal shot. Great to see these guys in their breeding splendor. Another pretty rust colored duck is the Ruddy duck. There was a bunch of males fighting it out this spring Elliott's pond. They made for great entertainment inbetween fish.
  14. I can't seem to find it, but email Trevor and ask him if he can direct you to it. He is the Bio for Calgary/Brooks. Trevor.Rhodes@gov.ab.ca
  15. Do you mean Trevor Rhodes' master thesis?
  16. Thanks for posting. I need to go and cast to those big, beautiful fish.
  17. Pretty common food source in productive lakes. I think it may be true that some individual fish specialize on certain food items.
  18. Great pics. Thanks for sharing the views. I flew into Aster in the late 80's to look for fish and do some water chemistry. F&W didn't originally stock this lake, rather Parks did by accident. I caught a number of big healthy Cutts near the outflow that were stained grey like the water. The fish were all of the same age class. We set a gill net up in the middle of the lake but did not catch any in the net. It appears the fish tend to hold by the outlet. It is an amazing place with lots of fossils around.
  19. You don't need 2 anchors, and you don't want two ropes down there for the fish to get wrapped up in.
  20. Thanks for sharing. Love the bellies and back thickness on those triploids. Hope to get out there some time.
  21. OK maybe not a beaver... a submarine? Sounds like great fun. I hope you get another shot at him. The big browns should be moving up river for the October spawn. Perhaps there will be more of these stories over the next month.
  22. Thanks for the suggestion. A question follows --Is there a certain type of epoxy one should use? Does it need to be somewhat flexible so that is doesn't fracture?
