Thanks for your input Jack. I have been using Tiemco hooks for quite some time but am going to try some signature hooks this year. I have had some problems with nymph hooks bending open on some bigger fish.
It would be nice if we had more than a couple of marl lakes on this side of the mountains. I may have to do a road trip to your neighborhood to find some AF3Ns to play with.
Cheers, Rob

Hey Trailhead, maybe the Livingston should be "Fly Fishing Only" like some waters in BC. No strike indicators, no weights, no lures with treble hooks. As if Cutts aren't easy enough to catch already.
I bet hook injuries would decrease if people stopped nymphing(Hopper/dropper) for Cutts. The group I fish with has a self-imposed dry fly only rule for Cutt waters. It makes you work at it a bit...

Jack, what hook do you use for your chironomids?

Running along a beach in 2" of water, then "POP", and excruciating pain above the heel...ruptured Achilles tendon. Some guys saw me and carried me up to the beach (while I tried not to puke on them from the pain). It's pretty gross to pinch the skin above your heel and find no tendon there. I didn't want to interupt the family camping trip so I iced it down for the rest of the day and went to bed. About 3am I woke up to some great pain. I waited for the wife and kids to wake up in the morning before heading back to Calgary for some drugs and a cast.
Passing kidney stones a couple of times...you don't want to do it

Congrats on a successful trip. Those are some serious fish.

Never let go of your rod when fishing with a boatman (can be expensive)
Fish know when you are between strips while boatman fishing
Bass love caddis flies
Fish selectively eating emerging chironomids will take a different type of dry fly
I need to take more scenery pictures
40 year old Iranian men smile like little kids when they catch their first fish
You can't land a 43lb Chinook in the ocean in under 2 minutes
Mosquitoes by a mountain lake will invade a tent trailer and try to suck you dry during the night
German short haired pointers are very jealous of fly rods (but useful for collecting pheasant tails)

Run off usually starts around the May long weekend. Before that the water should be great.

Wimpy Texans. Me and Sundance were out making perch streaks on the ice today. I even managed a couple of nice trout and a big one broke me off.

Cutties don't count unless they are over 18" or caught in streams less than 10 ft wide, clouds are just water vapor..., seen one mountain--seen 'em all....BUT, man that's a nice TRUCK!
TACOMA is on my bucket list!

Don, your technique works great with a piece of coat hanger instead of nails. This is "Bowness nymphing".
Back to weights on the bottom:
I know a guy who fishes like this, but he uses a heavy, full sink line. He usually fishes a streamer and a worm above his string of split shot. He fishes this set up on the swing (he's from the East Coast). I'm amazed how many fish will chase after a worm on a fast swing.
It's kind of like guys who troll in lakes with chironomids. I gave a guy some chironomids at Bullshead one summer. The next day he comes and tells me now many fish he caught trolling with his electric motor on his pontoon and a full sink line using a #16 Chironomid. Sometimes the fish just haven't read all the proper technique books.

Sundance and Midnapore get topped up with City water (via the Elbow) each spring. I've been told that less than 3% of the people in these community actually fish. Therefore I guess the water is more for swimming, boating and the "lake lifestyle". I think there is a pretty good charge for the water purchased. Perhaps that sum will get too large in the years to come when all the rivers are empty. I feel so guilty now... I'll have to fish in Rick's lake this year instead of Lake Sunperch.

Grey used to work for Hardy as a designer. Then went independent. Then was bought out by Hardy. The top series of rods and reels looks like good stuff.

Congrats on a couple of great adventures. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a great adrenaline rush.

I hope you didn't show those guys from the wrong side of 22x the secret fly! I don't know if troutlover will be able to fit that fly in his maggot container. Next thing we'll be having to share stillwater as well as moving water with these guys. Sounds and looks like it was a fine day for some bobber fishing. I'm sorry I missed out but I had to collect some more pheasant tails. Next spring will have to hijack Jared or Rick's boat and lay a wuppin' on those Chap fish.

Sundancefisher is a great guide. He always tells me exactly where to cast to catch big fish...what a guy.
Jared, it sounds like you need a partner to take pictures of your big fish at Chap...I'm available.

Downstream of where the HIGHWOOD meets the Bow, on the north side...McKinnons flats is a public access site.
Further downstream, north side... Legacy island. South of the four way stop on the highway west of the town of Carsland.

Agreed, it was fun...but she was easy.
Here's a better example of a fair chase lake fish
This fish was completely stuffed with leeches, it hardly made a splash on the jumps (not).
I started fishing lakes to get away from seeing a guy every 6 feet along the shoreline of moving water.
It's not a bad thing when you catch thick slabs either.

Ya, these things suck compared to 10" wet sock Cutts

Thanks for the warning Sir. I'm going to go pheasant hunting instead.

Nice dogs Russ! Those teeth are crazy.
Did the sturgeon jump for you?

Nice slough shark. We went out this evening, the weather was spectacular. We put about a 100 burbot on the ice while watching the stars. Great fun for the rookie ice fisherman with us.
