    Rattlesnakes

Hey Clive, after photos you can head over to the trout pond in town and exercise some 'bows. Cool looking critters
  3. Steve, send a PM and let me know if you are around this weekend
  4. Thanks for your insights NEBC. I have been fortunate to be catching 95% of the fish on the surface. It has been really hard to take. It the fish are not very busy on the surface they are still cruising at about 4 feet and will come up if enticed correctly. I did spend a day using the clear line just under the surface and it was very effective. I will try some 1730's out (catching 15 lbers sounds like a horrible thing to do). I haven't had to use the sinking line yet, but your theory for fly travel sounds like an effective way to get some bites. Cheers, Rob
  5. What a pretty fish....I mean bait.....I can't see the fish with that worm thing in it's mouth. How LOOOW will you go to catch a Cutty. You've been fishing for 'eyes and burbs too much this summer and forgotten that this is FLY fissin'. By the way, it looked like a great day and the fall colors are so nice to enjoy. Catching a few big ones always makes the day special. I was going to invite you to catch some monster rainbows on dries, but now I see you are only a bait fisherman. Do you find chumming the stream with nightcrawlers gets the Cutties in the mood for the RED WIGGLER?????????? Glad you had a great day and I am jealous of your orange bellied mountain toad
  6. Well I've been experimenting with some TMC 3761 (2X strong) nymph hooks. They are staying up in the water column enough for my liking and I have only straightened a couple. Daiichi 1560 and 1530s are next to be tested.
  7. Thanks for the show....the colors leave a print on your soul
  8. The colors of fall rock! Softer light makes for great pictures too
  9. Had one go after my streamer when Bass fishing last summer. It's always fun to see them. Years ago one tried to climb on my tube in the late evening. Great bonus to see them when fishing
  10. Very nice Wes. Thanks for sharing your day
  11. What type and size of hook are you using?
  12. He's getting dressed for the big October party!
  13. I think Terry you have your own "problems" in your back yard. If you're ever up near the big city let me know and I will get you out to educate some of these equipment bashing fish.
  14. Lots of people meet there before heading off to the hills
  15. Thanks Don. I guess I will have to try some nymph hooks and see if they will stay up in the water column enough for the type of fishing I'm doing. I'm still landing most of the fish on R50 hooks but I have to continually bend the hooks back. Hard hits by 10 lbers tend staighten things out. Most of the hook ups are in the corner of the mouth suggesting they are taking the fly on the turn. I'll go tie some flies on heavy nymph hooks and do some experimenting. Cheers, Rob
  16. I am looking for dry fly hooks. It's pretty hard to float 2x heavy scud hooks. 2457s are awesome for nymph fishing...but I am fishing ON the surface. I also think one needs a straight hook if any stripping is to be done as curved hooks tend to roll. I guess I'll just have to suffer the consequences of big fish and keep bending the hooks back. It's such a horrible problem to deal with. If only I could get all those pesky 18-20"ers to ignore my flies now. Thanks for the replies boys
  17. I'm having problems with hooks bending open on large fish. I've been using Mustad signature R50 hooks which seem to be better that Tiemco 100s. Any other suggestions for strong dry fly hooks. Boatman fishing can be a bit violent at times. Partridge Capt hamiliton nymph hooks...YH1A. Medium wire, 2x long......any reviews? Daiichi ?
  18. There was one last year along the shore at Lake Sundance. He looked a little out of place sitting on a paddle boat. I used to see them quite often while tromping through the cattails while duck hunting. Like Conor says, they have an interesting croaking call.
  19. Typically they are very shy birds that hang out in cattails. That's why you don't see them much. They "hide" by sticking their bill straight up and making like a reed. Sounds like this guy was pretty hungry.
  20. Hey Oagie it's good to hear from you. The perch at Sundance are missing you. Have you caught a steelhead with your fly rod? Kevin and I might have to make the trek up there to see you some time. Cheers, Rob
  21. Nice chunky fish. Looks like you had a fine day
  22. Best place for 5mm neoprenes is Cabelas ($69 US) plus shipping. Their wading boots are pretty good as well. I like neoprene for April/May and October lake fishing. Never tried float tube fishing for 12 hours in breathables, but neoprenes work.
  23. No eggs, just meat
  24. Squawfish.........northern pikeminnow
  25. Thanks for sharing Frank. It is like a different river down there. The scenery is great and a lot of the fish are colored a little different. Looks like it was a fine day for a float.
