Thanks for the tips lads. I have tied my elbows to my waist for the next adventure. Boat traffic will just continue to increase each year. Hopefully a little respect will still exist as time comes on.

I talked with a researcher who is involved in a huge study in BC. They are looking into a variety of angling issues in about 800 lakes. They are looking at angling methods, regulations, fish growth, angler density and a number of other issues. They are using aerial sampling methods to watch boat density and distribution as well as using webcams to observe angling effort. One thing he said was that BC will switching their rainbow stocking completely to All Female Triploids so there won't be any males to worry about. It would be great to see a bit more research funding directed toward Alberta's fisheries. How much Alberta's fisheries are valued is very evident by the lack of money made available to study them.

I wonder if I can get a mutt to point pheasants for me....

Terry when you catch those 28"ers you just have to back your drag to nothing and then pull really hard on the rod....the line just peels off and makes great hero noises. We watched a couple of guys doing this with 18" fish at Whitetail one day...it was priceless

In the same way that triploids can potentially escape to join a breeding population...so can a stocked diploid that does not have the local genetic history. So stocked diploid rainbows could be entering the local system and causing havoc. Is there any concern/evidence of escaped diploid stockers? I have seen rainbows and Cutt/bows in Elk River tributaries. Genetic pollution is already occurring on the Elk. Furthermore I have been Brook trout in Michele Cr. More pollution aimed at Bull trout. Us humans certainly have a way with screwing up things. I guess time will tell if the computer modelling is anywhere near accurate. Modelling and reality often aren't that close since there is so many factors to consider.

I just spoke with a fish geneticist that I work with who sits on the advisory board looking into the Westslope Cutt situation. He said there is some pure fish in the Upper Bow tributaries that he wants to investigate. He was wondering if he could hire my fly rod for some collecting. Sounds like I might be taking care of some special fish this summer.

Speaking of large men... I took a lineman from the LA Raiders fishing once. My Large waders were about 5 sizes too small for him. He ended up wading in his jeans....tough guy as it was late September. I remember trying on his Super Bowl ring....I could put both my thumbs in it. I feel your pain... It's hard for ladies to share their husbands with a fishing rod. It seems like adventure time is limited so we keep going back to what we know...this is the year to break out! The country has remained relatively free of freshwater diseases and maintains a strict disinfection policy towards tackle and waders imported by visiting anglers. This is detailed in the "Freshwater Fisheries Law" of 2006, prohibiting the use of fishing equipment which has been used for angling abroad, unless the equipment has been disinfected according to the guidelines listed below.
