  1. I really can't argue with you on that, and I have been trying to convince my wife that a new z-axis will fix that problem. Its's really not my technique you see its the two x four of fly rod I currently have. Matt
  2. Wear glasses is all I have to say, I look like a drunk fool casting with the oppisite arm. Matt
  3. Even though the new shop was set up pretty nice, I really liked their old location right on the C-train, easy for me to hit on the way home.
  4. With long line nymphing you can access seeams not so close to shore, and get the fly right down to the fish to entice a take. Next time you are Bass Pro take notice of when its feeding time in the tank. Lots of times the fish will take the food and spit it out multiple times before taking it. The indicator lets you see these "tastes" and hook in! If you long line nymph with out an indicator you will be missing these takes and be less productive. It takes a but of practice and patience to learn to cast with the indicator but it will pay dividens in the long run in the number of fish you land. Three keys to nymphing: Get your fly down, fish areas where the fast currents and slow water intersect (seams), let you line drift as naturally as you can with no drag so you indicator floats at the same speed as the a leaf on the water.
  5. After buyin a tonne of flies and trinkets. I have to wonder am I alone? Does anyone else feel the need to buy more and more flies like a crow to a shiney piece of metal ........how many boxes/flies does everyone else carry?
  6. NIce to see that real talent still exists, and not that pre packaged crap that we have been spoon fed for so long.
  7. I agree with what everyone said previously as far as regs go. I have tried my luck in the same spot that you are thinking before the wier was under construction. Not much luck, and what I did get was pretty small. I am not sure what effect the new wier will have on river currents directly below the wier or what effect the construction has on sediment load directly below the wier. Be sure to let me know how it goes.... Matt
  8. I was out last night and that wind was bad. Think I will be taking the week off. I can't believe I am a fair weather fisherman.
  9. Browns and whites are strong fish and whill leave your reel screaming, but the rainbows are the true acrobats. I find if you are getting into rainbows on the Bow, you can usually throw on another split shot and hook a whitefish. As for Browns they are a little more shy, hiding under cover lika a bank or fallen tree, o rjust in the shade. For that I think its pretty hard to guess population based on fishing numbers. But a catch ratio is probably 5:1:1 Bows, Browns, whites Matt
  10. Welcome!
  11. Best and cheapest advice I could offer is go to Wholesale sports or Basspro and get 2 DVD's made by 3M / Scientific Anglers "basic fly casting, and advanced fly casting". You will laugh at first because it was made in the early 80's, but not much has changed in flyfishing casting since then. I find videos beter then books because you can see exactally what they are doing. There is another one called "Flycasting Faults and Fixes" might be worth a try. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...5006000_175-6-0
  12. In the ice fishing world they call those "stingers". They rarely hook the mouth but rather grab the fish by the gills or throat. It works but it it really hard on fish. Not recomended
  13. Naw, the selection upstairs was mostly kiddy waders and cammo neoprene waders with rubber boots built in. Probably country pleasures is the best price and selection of decent waders in town. Not sure what that new shop down south has to offer? You may want to check out the fishin hole, that have alot of good waders that you will not nessassarly pay for the name on, like hodgson ect. Personally I love the Orvis Pro guide's bang for the buck cant get a better wader.
  14. Are you building that in the basemnet? If so your wife is alot cooler then mine
  15. If they are the bottom feeders, there is 33million suckers in this pool.
  16. So is policemans flats closed?
  17. You don't have to sell me on anything, there is no place I would rather be! I may be looking into this next year, kinda layed up this season after sugery, do you offer discounts to board members? WHat is peak season? and how much notice do you need for booking?
  18. "A Wading Belt" eh? There was a less then masculin guy I went to school with who carried a purse, he called it a europian-carry-all. It was still a purse, no matter what he called it! So you see where I am going with this....its still a faggy pack
  19. Its really funny you said that you need no more gear...I was thinking the same thing last week. So I thought I have to be missing something, and I think I found it Spey rod, reel, line, books, videos, bigger streamers.....ppppssss don't tell my wife..... On a side note I did find a guy selling a pile of really nice gear on Craigs list... http://calgary.en.craigslist.ca/spo/893664450.html
  20. Damn thats cool! I think next year that is on my list of thisgs to do, Spey casting.
  21. After reading the "what you learned this year" I seen alot of guys posting that they learned spey casting. Here is what I know about spey fishing, you use two hands...thats it. Questions I would love to have answered.... If you post I will listen. Can I use my large arbour 6wt reel that I currently have on my "normal" rod What is the benifit of Spey vs normal fly fishing? Can I do it on the Bow durring my walk and wade?
  22. If you are going to shell out $250 to fish a stocked pond while gofey and Mickey does a dance on shore you got more money then me! My self and my wife spent last Christmas @ Disney, you can go deep sea fishing at Cape Canaveral (the same place they launch the shuttle) for a night shark fishing cruse. It was only $150, but be sure that they take you at least 20 miles off shore to the reef, if you stay in the bay you will be fishing for junk fish and probably not catch anything because they will hook you up with shark rigging. If you get out to the reef and they Chum you can be looking at 9 - 12 footers! I love deep sea fishing! The best bang for th ebuck is possibably Eastern Canada, $30 for a half day.
  23. Very sad indeed to have two guys in the prime of their life dooing what they enjoy.
