  1. That's a damn good price for an IR2. Was that off of E-bay? I 've been looking around for one, but haven't seen anything to match that price. Regards Mike
  2. It's a Hell of a way to choose the next Govt-" Who's going to the least damage". I guess I going with the Green Party, They will never get a seat, but if they can get Official Party Status, maybe they will keep the others honest. Regards Mike
  3. There are no rivers worth fishing north of the big "C". You're way better off fishing the Bow. Regards Mike
  4. I just read that Hardy is moving their manufacturing to Asia ( Korea, I think). I wonder how that will affect their quality/ sales? Regards Mike
  5. Rick, I have been using the Ott-Lite for about a year. It's fluorescent with a natural color band. It was a big improvement over the cheap incandescent I was using- no glare, easier on the eyes, etc. Regards Mike
  6. Pacres, where did see the Iron Blue show? I watched the series years ago, but haven't seen it since. Regards Mike
  7. Increasing fees is no big deal, but I find it ridiculous that in the greatest boom our Province has ever seen, that the Fish and Wildlife budget doesn't even come close to managing the resource properly. Hell, I bet their budget hasn't even returned to the level prior to Ralphies slashing. I'm willing to ante up some cash for increased fees, but I think it's high time the Province stepped up to the plate and start meeting their oblications. Regards Mike
  8. Sounds like you two are hooked!! Next year my goal is to try using a dry fly waked in the surface. My fishing buddy had one roll a dry fly about 20ft from me and it's an incredible sight to see. As far as black bears skulking around in bush, I had a similar experience with a Black Angus cow, I was trying to hold my rod,get the bear banger out, get the cap of the bear spray and throw rocks at the same time.. Regards Mike
  9. I have found the shipping times aren't too long, but what can happen is things can get hung up in Canada Customs for quite a long time. Regards Mike
  10. How about a Ralphie series of fly hooks, guaranteed to release fish safely Regards Mike
  11. Glad to hear you hooked into some fish. Its been tough fishing up there this year, so the fact you managed a few is great. Regards Mike
  12. That is good news. A "GOOD JOB" to those who worked hard to make it happen Regards Mike
  13. Nice pattern. Looks like I'll have to add another fly to my TO-DO list for winter. Regards Mike
  14. I've had good luck with egg sucking leeches, green and red butted skunks and the Alaskabou series. A lot of people use bunny leeches with good results, but I've never had much luck with them. I think presentation and size seem to be more important than type of fly. Regards Mike
  15. Perfect!! Thanks for the idea. Regards Mike
  16. I picked up a magnetic release at the Fishing Hole Sale and am trying to figure out how to attach it to the net. I would like to attach it to the loop so the handle is down. The strap that came with the release is about 3/4" in wide so the only the only way I can see to attach it is cutting a slit in the mesh. I'm not sure I want to do that, so does anyone have a better idea? Regards Mike
  17. Hi Colin I haven't build any rods in a couple of years, but I usually ordered my supplies from Andy Snedden in Victoria. Great guy and a good selection of stuff. I found him great at matching up components and free with his advice. http://www.rodbuildersupplies.com/index.php Regards Mike
  18. Steelhead The reason for going after Disaster Services for money is that no other department has any set aside for this sort of thing. We are dealing with a Govt Bureaucracy in its finest form. Everybody says something has to be done, but its not my department. The allusion that only 8-10 land owners are affected is not correct. That area is crisscrossed with older pipelines, compressor stations, wells etc. If one of the pipelines is unearthed and ruptured, I think that would make for a big disaster. What happens at Dickson Dam and downstream if the entire Clearwater River is added to the Drainage? I think this is a case of an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. As for the fisheries themselves, we would be looking at the loss of two spring creeks ( Clear and Stauffer) and in a Province that has only a few, that is a significant loss. Think of the hundreds of thousands of dollars and Volunteer man-hours invested by TU and others that will lost if something is not done. We are not talking a lot money here ( around half million for a permanent solution) When I look at the money this Govt has p*ssed away that's chicken feed. Regards Mike
  19. Hi Scratch This link takes you to the latest info Regards Mike http://rmh-mountaineer.awna.com/county/flooding.htm
  20. Steelhead by far!!! The first run, you kinda hang on and hope all your tackle is in good order, Regards Mike
  21. Article on the flooding at link below Regards Mike http://www.reddeeradvocate.com/
  22. Hi All, I just returned from Caroline after waiting to see if my cabin was going to get flooded again. Arbutus Rd. the county road looks like a causeway going across the middle of a lake. My understanding is that the problem is being caused by the breaching of 2 weirs- one at Camp Worthington Air Cadet Camp and another in the Clear Creek area. The p*ssing contest between levels of Govt is over who is going to fix them and then who will maintain them. They have decided to have a meeting to discuss this. Doesn't that make everybody feel better. Regards Mike
