  1. Would have to agree whiteys can be fun on a really light rod ,I'll target them in the fall.Lake white fish in most of southern Alberta's reservoirs can be huge and really fun on a fly rod .Goldeye are easy to catch with a dry fly, and anything that grabs a dry has to be fun.Hell I've even bragged about catching huge Burbs .There all good fish ,the tug is the drug.
  2. Lately I've bin spinning mayfly nymphs ,6 with black tungsten bead 6 with brass bead and 6 without. So i guess 66%of my tying has bead heads.
  3. I thought any air gun that went over 495 feet per second required a PAL.But i have bin wrong before.
  4. down load image resizer Visit My Website
  5. Good ideas beeker.I thought about solar panels ,the problem is a 5 watt one isn't going to do much plus it could wreck your 100$ battery. You could buy a much better one more watts etc.But for the price you can just buy more battery's.Nothing worse than going fishing for three days and running out of juice.I have rotated battery's between truck and boat before in a pinch.
  6. The first time i put a motor on my pontoon i tryed the same thing and all i did was donuts.Maybe yours will be different being a two man craft .It works better to pull than push because you have no keel or rutter ,also the waves won't splash you in the face.its easyer to troll too because your facing your lines. You'll no what i mean when you take it out for the first time ,the boat won't respond to steering like it does in an aluminum. Its like driving on ice.
  7. Mr Big,a couple things about pontoons and electric motors .You may have to stiffen the transom up a little with some wood or what ever if your going to put a big motor on it.The anchor rope deploys right beside the motor ,not such a big deal on stillwaters.Pontoon boats don't have a keel to track the boat straight.Where the motor is will be the front of the boat ,and you will have to turn the motor 180deg.so the motor will pull the boat.As Tepety says you steer with the oars ,or if just let the oars drag in the water it will keep you straight .If you want to troll really slow you can turn the motor back 180deg.and run it in reverse this will be your slowest speed .Hope this helps ..
  8. Ahh, where have you bin?
  9. You could tell he wanted the shut out ,in the third period every time he went down he was back up just as fast.
  10. mmmmm spring .
  11. Hey Jack, what is one of those battery's worth? I'll second that digital maximizer does use less power for slow trolling .
  12. Geez looked like they left there legs on the plane, good thing they remembered Kipper.
  13. OK now you guys got me wondering so i did some googleing .It seems there can be two different kinds of deep cycles ,a true deep cycle has solid plates like a golf cart battery and then there are hybrid battery's witch don't have solid plates ,witch i think is the kind you buy over the counter, not sure. They recommend not to discharge past 50% on hybrid battery's.Any battery experts out there ?
  14. All fish swallow...
  15. To extend the life of a deep cycle battery it is recommended not to discharge past 50%,also you should charge it right away. You can bring them down to almost dead but after a few times they just arn't as good IMO.
  16. I would agree a 34lbs would work great.A 40lb motor starts to get a little heavy. 1lb of thrust=1 amp/hr, most batterys are 120amp/hr so a 30lb motor going full blast will kill a battery in 4hrs approx .Thats a 12volt.But remember you shouldn't drain your batterys past 50%.
  17. So whats next ?Caddis larva.
  18. Ya a dozen for me, by then im pissed .On a good day after runoff i've bin +10 before and a couple indys .
  19. Well i have made a couple dozen so far and i really like it .A 19mm impack socket added on made it balance real nice .Works well for rapping weight ,wire and bodys in general.I could see how an auto bobbin would speed things up but just hanging a normal bobbin works fine too ,i only seem to turn it 6-7 times a fly.I think my next mission is to purchase the fine point jaws ,then make a smaller spining head to attach too.I think it may just look and work a little better.
  20. Well after some thought 300$ is just a little to much for me right now so i thought i would try and build my own .I had some bearings and scrap metal laying around ,took apart my old vise and came up with this .Ugly as hell but it works, just need to add some counter balance weight. At least it gives me an idea what its like to tie with a rotary
  21. I've bin trying to talk my wife into getting a dog for 2 years now.All these great shots just may help, keep em coming. pic of my sisters dog,Buster.
  22. If you got the money , power drifter .great on any water. http://www.fish-rite.com/power-drifter.html
  23. This the one i use Peter ,the little "V" notch in the end is what makes it easy Once you have made the knot pull it off with a sharp pull onto your fly line .It also works well for nailing your loops.I like the shrink sleeve idea for loops or just wrapping thread . http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0037403319389a.shtml
  24. Sorry R.W.It is a great shot of a brown ,i should have worded it differently.
  25. Ya the clear midge flex and some sharpies makes for some funky colors
