  1. I use a gps on floats to keep track of my moving average and stopped time to better judge my arrival time and how much time I have to stop to fish a stretch.
  2. I was out on the Bow and my friend caught a cutt-bow cross and it made me wonder a couple things. Where are the cutts in bow river to cross with the rainbow? The second thing is how many generations of offsprings from the orginal cutt-bow cross will keep the red slashes under the jaw if the new offspring keep breeding with a rainbow?
  3. I can't remember what I was thinking but don't put them in the dryer. They marked up the dryer really well. No problems on the drift boat so far but you can't use cleats on a drift boat.
  4. Yes......I just bought a pair of CC4. I got hit by a few waves. I went back to the catalogue and it says they are water resistant not proof. My camera got wet and does not work now. C'est la vie
  5. Fishing: the cause of more drowning deaths ....further in the article it says half the drowning deaths are alcohol related so the headline should read Drinking: the cause of the most drowning deaths. I do need to get in the habit of wearing a life jacket.
  6. Number 1 has always worked for me. I don't understand why it's something you shouldn't say.....it's the truth.
  7. I would like to get a pair after having wet feet for 11 hours yesterday. Where's the best place to order them from? Is the sizing chart accurate? Thanks
  8. Does anyone get a tinge more pleasure landing a rainbow or brown on the Bow? if so why?
  9. I agree 100% with brownsbask the character minimum of the search engine is a big hindrance. Trying doing a search for upper bow threads. It also fails to do a search if the word is too common
  10. I found a new career 3 weeks ago after being laid off on Dec. 1. Since getting the new job I been spending like crazy. New AV receiver to replaced the broken one and a new gps. Things must be getting better if I'm working
  11. I'm heading to Banff tomorrow and have always driven by wondering about fishing the strecth nearish to the transcanada hwy. east of Exshaw. There's that one bend I can see from the highway. Is there a place to park with easy access? or is there a better stretch to try? Or should I head out on 1A? I guess I'm up for a 30 minute bush whack. Thanks for any info. It's so hard to do a search here because bow is rejected for being too short of a word
  12. You also have to get a in transit sticker before you go. I can't remember what I had to do get that. You need the bill of sale and ? It's no problem to tow the trailer on the US side without a license plate. I think you have 48 hours from the border to get home. Sorry that's not much help. I went at easter last year the line up at the border was an couple hours both ways. It might be less with the dollar being 80 cents now.
  13. wow WOW that's a beauty It's on my wish to go fishing for searum cutts ever since reading The River Why
  14. Good music...I like the Michael Franti song.
  15. All these plans will change if I find a job. Funny how being laid off and fishing can change your attitude about life. I'm hoping to try a few places for the first time: Cowichan River at Easter, Duck Lake at the end of May, Bullshead at ice off. I should be able to do old favorites like floats on the Bow. Fishing for Walleye and Jack at Pigeon Lake with Dad. Pike on fly is fun but usually get 50 walleye to one pike. I'm still hoping to catch my first Goldeye on the NSR. The big goal 2010? is when I get the camper van restored to do a trip for grayling in the Yukon. Maybe I should try to get to the Little Smokey as a warm up.
  16. I think it will be a hoot to drift through. It might be a little tough to put the drift boat in at the zoo.
  17. I'm green with envy. Landing a fish that size on a #18 is something special. Thanks for sharing
  18. Does anyone know what they are building across the river between 22x and Policeman's? The berm goes a good distance into the river. I'm not sure what affect it has on fishing.
  19. I love that river and area.
  20. Go to the SIP n DIP. It's the best 50's Tiki bar. The real McCoy. They have Mermaids swimming in the pool that's behind the bar on Friday and Saturday night.
  21. I never tried a pontoon boat so I can only comment about drift boat side of things. I went on guided float a couple years ago and fell in love with that type of fly fishing. I'm lucky to have a friend who is just as crazy about fly fishing so it has worked well buying a drift boat together. With a drift boat you need a minimum of two people and that means fishing half the time. With 3 you get to fish 2/3 the time. I'm not sure on a pontoon what the ratio of rowing to fishing is. The shuttle service has been great and splitting the cost makes it a great deal. The drift boat is super stable and it can take a ton of gear. It nice to have a few rods rigged up to switch back and forth at a moments notice. It's normally easy to stop in the river and cast to rising fish. Try both and see which one you like more.
  22. I drive a 99 Buick LeSabre and pull a drift boat. I was given the car on the condition I don't sell it. It has worked out ok even if it wasn't my first choice. With the low clearance it has yet to have a problem at any of the boat launches. Pulling the drift boat halves my gas mileage. I did a 650 km pulling the drift boat and spent 120 on gas which is about 19 mpg
  23. I love that hopper sound you hear on hot summer day and on a not so hot day along a sun soaked steep bank
  24. I agree floating in the city on hot day is a bad idea and I try to avoid it because of the beer drinking rafters and dogs. Sometimes the weather, scheduling and getting the fever lead to floating the Bow on hot weather days.... lol.........a bad day fishing.....
  25. Being a Bylaw of the City of Calgary to require the use of Life Jackets or Personal Floatation Devices by persons boating within the boundaries of the City of Calgary. (Amended by Bylaw Number 17M79) WHEREAS the Council may pursuant to Section 17 of the Municipal Government Act pass Bylaws which are not contrary to any Statute of the Province of Alberta for the peace, order and good Government of the municipality and for promoting, among other things, the safety and welfare thereof; AND WHEREAS pursuant to Section 169 of the Municipal Government Act aforesaid which provides that subject to every other Act a Council has control and management of, among other things, rivers, streams, watercourses and other bodies of water within the municipality including the air space above and the ground below; AND WHEREAS the Small Vessel Regulations, SOR/69-97 established under the Canada Shipping Act, Revised Statutes of Canada, 1970, Chapter S-9 in the provisions of Part II, REQUIREMENTS FOR PLEASURE CRAFT, by Section 16 thereof except craft propelled by oars or paddles from the application of Part II aforesaid; AND WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the safety of persons to which the said Regulations do not apply on all natural or man-made rivers, streams, brooks, canals, lakes, reservoirs or other waterways or watercourses which are contained within the boundaries of the City of Calgary; (B/L 17M79, 1979 May 22) NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CALGARY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: SHORT TITLE 1. This Bylaw may be cited as the "Water Safety Bylaw". INTERPRETATION AND DEFINITIONS 2. In this Bylaw: (a) "approved" means approved by either the Department of Transport or by the City or by the Calgary Police Force as the context requires; UNCERTIFIED COPY Page 2 of Bylaw Number 9084 ( "City" means the City of Calgary, a Municipal Corporation of the Province of Alberta or the area contained within the boundaries of the City as the context requires; © "Federal Regulations" means any Regulations established by the Government of Canada or a Department thereof under the Canada Shipping Act; (d) "vessel" means a device of any kind designed for or used as a means of water transportation, including a raft, boat or canoe to which the Federal Regulations do not apply and including any inflatable rubber or canvas device capable of sustaining a person afloat in the water. It looks like section 169 gives the City the right to the management of waterways. Hard to believe
