tried the prototypes when you were in Calgary for the clinics. very nice. I especially liked the 10.5' switch. Is it still a 7 wt? and what line do you suggest? Tom

made some furled leaders from flouro as an experiment - for nymphing. not a good plan. Very slow sink rate, I suspect because of the aerodynamics (hydrodynamics?) of the furled surface, but the leader just didn't get down as well. Love em for dries ( not the flouro, just plain mono), for the turnover, and the flex in differing currents

I also have been looking for a wp camera, read all the reviews etc. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q209waterp...roup/page17.asp Based on those, the choice came down to Lumix TS2 released feb 2010 or the canon (way bulky) I bought the TS2 from London Drugs (they also have the Pentax W90 in stock) but hated it. Luckily LD has a 15 day return policy, and I used it. Went to look at the W90 today at LD, but noticed they have the W80 on sale at $249, and after seeing Max's shots, I bought it. Note that I have a good non waterproof digital, so the primary use will be as a fishing cam. Nice fish, Rickr

I was on the water with Brian for this today. Somewhat suprisingly, the conditions were not bad. Didn't even get cold. and the occassional sunny spot was a bonus. This is one of the most positive spey experiences, Brian is a master at spotting and explaining the reasons my casts dont work like they are supposed to, and then showing me an easy fix. If any of you budding spey folks or wannabe spey folks can possibly find time Fri or Saturday for the clinic, I recommend highly that you contact Brian and see if he can make a spot for you. This is truly time well spent.

Times three Took this last year, and am signed up for this one as well. Brian is a excellent teacher, and Maxwell taint no slouch either.

Yesterday at FC, I was at a hole, and a guy started watching from behind. Turns out he was from Edmonton, and had never fished the Bow. I gave him a couple of pointers, and a couple of flies ( cuz all he had were some big dries). Said it was OK if he wanted to fish the hole ( he didn't have waders) and directed him to a spot about 100 ft down at the end of the hole. I was at the top. Up comes a fisherman, and it was obvious we were in his spot. Without a word, he started throwing BETWEEN us. No other fisheren in sight - 3/4 mile of good holes, but by jingy this was his spot. Not being confrontational, I just kept casting. I caught, he didn't - the gods are kind. Assholes exist.

You might try using the GPS (gel spun polyethylene) thread. It has a much higher breaking point. It is quite slippery, and a little tougher to cut, but I found it waay easier to tie. Fish tales has the WAPSI 200 denier for big flies, but is BO on the 50 and 100. I found some 100 at Bass Pro a while ago. I think that Danville also has some, that is available on special order from Fishing Hole. A lot of tiers swear by it for spinning the deer hair, but I have switched entirely because even my ham fisted efforts are not breaking the thread. My only knocks on it are that it is hard to cut (use a slicing technique with the scissors) and that the 50 is too thin to build up a head on the fly. It also takes pen colours well, so I use mostly white and black. A touch pricier than the others, but in my mind, well worth it.

done a lot of ice fishing in SK. Was out on Lake Dief for the rainbows, and my big (10in, 3hp) drill had big trouble after the second hole. Had sharpened the blades just prior to the trip. Tried a bunch of things before I thought to recheck the blades - totally dull. Apparently a lot of blowing sand gets trapped on the surface of that lake, and probably most lakes on the prairies, and wrecks havoc with blades. I was in 15ft of water, so I knew it wasn't bottom sludge. Carry extra blades.

I think I fufilled my role as the water anchor for the group, but you know, even the anchor got picked up. Great teacher. Thanks to all the group I will be there next time as well.
