  1. Speaking for myself................I would of ran...............and you would be bear poop. I guess I can forget an invite for mountain stream fishing?
  2. Yes, thats the whole Idea.................. cover as much water as possible.
  3. Finally had a chance to get out there and cast my new toy along with getting a few pointers as well. Really liking the rod, even thou both lines I bought aren't really the best for her....................Scandi (510) too heavy..................wincutter (455) too light............................even thou both are castable and will probably used them for this season. But I was able to try a few lines and seem to have her dialed in at about 480. Worked on a few cast that came along nicely ovef the weekend, just need to keep at it, and try to get the left side of by body working a little better. I diff. see where this style of casting will make for a easier day (especially on the bigger water) and also reach a few holes that I just couldn't get too with the single hander.
  4. Happy B-day Now I'm 64 I pondered on those days gone by As I sat beside the mill And gazed upon the setting sun As it sank beneath the hill I gazed on it once more, me boys T'was the very sight I've seen It's just the same now as it was When we were sweet sixteen Oh, how I long for those bright days To come again once more But come again they never will For now I'm sixty four The little fish swim in the brook And wander down below They swim on still and ever will As they did long, long ago The little meadow by the brook Is just as fresh and green It's just the same now as it was When we were sweet sixteen
  5. So I finally got my new Spey set-up for the up coming Salmon season. A 13'6 7wt Peiroway Element along with a Lamson Litespeed 4, running a compact scandi and windcutter, wish it was nicer out tonight so I could have a go at a sea trout.....................I' guess I'll be watching the Bluejays instead.
  6. Just got a free Mow tips (T8) thrown in from a reel order I recently made.................can these tips be used with a compact scandi or a mid belly line...........or are they just meant to be used for Skagit.
  7. Read a couple topics posted on the site on this topic. So if I have this right I'm looking to add a leader of Approx 1.5 rod length to my scandi head. So as a starting point 1.5 X 13.5 = 20 ft which will end up being a 10-14 foot polyleader and 6-10 feet of tippet..................just play with it from there untill I find what I like????????????????
  8. Looking fwd to this........read the lift & sweep....waiting for more. Thanks
  9. Looking at a Pflueger President 2090 for a 7136 rod...............lining it with a 510 compact scandi. Will this reel handle the head, running line and backing, would like to get 150 yrds on there. Thanks for the help......................I hate mail order.
  10. Nice work Dave. What brand of Oval tinsel did you use.....looks like good stuff as it didn't open up on the tight turns.
  11. Very nice Eastman.........when should I show up to help you swing those...........................June 1st is just too long of wait.
  12. Russels use to have a selction on HP air rifles both in .177 and .22....................seen them there (catolog) pushing 1250 fps.............anything over 490 fps will require paperwork.........whoelsale should carry them aswell..............Goona run you up to 8 hundy for something high end...............but there are the odd one avaible in the 3 hundy range.
  13. Yeah thats the one...................figure its better than the shoe boxes that I have beeen using.
  14. Very nice SJW...................that will push some water for sure.................."2 years".................never say.
  15. I just picked up a wooden machinist toolbox from princess auto for $80- half price national sale. Of course not a piece of craftmenship but a really good storage/ travel kit, perfect for that week long salmon trip when you might have tie on the road. Room for full skins/vise. Worth a look see at the very least. Mods delete if against rules
  16. It wasn't Tenkarausa, Robson Green or some Japenese guy hookin on a live minnow, that turned Tenkara into baiting fishing. It was me as a 5 year old with a fixed line tyed to the end of a bamboo fishing with a worm that was destroyed a 1500 year old art form..................smartin' up will ya. Any way thanks for the post Swing, would love to try that form of fishing...................I've been cruising the T'USA website and more than likely will pull the trigger on a 12 footer............the thoughts of hooking up a grisle on one of those is just too tempin'.
  17. fixed line on big fish sounds like fun.
  18. I'm rollin a few leeches right now.......diff will add a few of those........thanks.
  19. Did I just ripped off or did the price of a neck almost double in the last couple of years.
  20. My 2010 started off great with 4 mths on the Bow............plus a day on the Crow (something I've been wait 4 years to do)..............learned alot on much bigger water than I'm use too. Pretty much fizzled once I got back home, only 15 hours on the water for the rest of the year.........without a dance with a salmon. Less than 30 days before it all starts again...........can't wait.
  21. Don't you just hate it, when you cast to far..............
  22. Had a bit o'luck with this one last winter #18 scud hook black micro/midge tube body over glue (pull tight to keep bulk down) thin white antron wing black UV dubbing thorax/head I hung this under a worm and leech on the warmer days, it fished best at the end of my drift, just when the flies started to roll out. Heres one from Terry H that I had bookmarked. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=8183
  23. I think the answer to your question is yes you can. Althou a pair of waders would greatly improve your comfort. Since this is your first post and you are labeling yourself as a beginner I'm guessing its safe to say you are. Althou I have fly fished (not very well, mind you) before, I started on the Bow last year about this time. I would say 80% of the fish I caught were with cast less than 25ft from the shore, don't think I stepped in the water untill I was quite comfortable spotting water that I knew would hold fish. No need to be stumbling around it the middle of a river in the winter looking for something you can't find. I would suggest that you do you learning from the shore, once you're catching fish from there, start exploring the middle of the river. With all that being said, if your gonna be out on the ice shelves a pair of waders would be nice if you all of sudden find yourself in waist deep water and a mile from your car. Find a buddy for the winter. Have fun and be careful.
