Strange rules - your free to swim, float, crap, pee or whatever in the river immediately above the reservoir but aren't allowed to enter the water once it's in the reservoir? If it's OK for the fish to fornicate there, why can't we?

Through trial and error on several different projects, I found painting resin on the wood, laying and stretching dry cloth onto it, and wetting the cloth into the resin (using the roller) provided best results. It helps minimize the amount of resin needed which is the major weight component. My projects were all single person craft so low weight was important (kayak, canoe, pontoon). Commercial builds do vacuum molding to suck excess resin out - not easily done on a home project. A certain amount of mass in your pram may be beneficial to aid stability.

It looks like you're using a technique I arrived at after several frustrating attempts of glassing boats - painting the resin on the surface and wetting the cloth into it rather than working with wet cloth. The large curved surfaces are when laying out dry cloth makes work easier. I found a rubber lino roller works well for working the cloth into the resin, getting a good bond, and working out bubbles and small wrinkles. You can save some sanding by trimming the excess glass when the resin gets rubbery but hasn't fully set. The fillets you use are the best way to do seams. The wood will fail before the seam does. I hope your work space is well ventilated. It's no fun getting gassed by fumes.

Instead of plastic sheet use wax paper under glued pieces. Nothing sticks to it and not prone to wrinkling or stretching.

I found a tube about 4 1/2' long in my garage this weekend. It contained what appears to be a 2 piece tapered plastic stick with wire loops tied at various points along its length and what looks like a handle at the thick end. Does anyone know what this thing is for? It seems like I should know but can't remember.

Blowing cold air means you're not getting circulation in the system. You can overheat the engine and still have cold air blowing. Not sure where your fan switch is but they were located to respond to water temperature in vehicles I worked on in my past. Likely problem is the water pump. The impeller would be spinning on the shaft.

The geology of the headwaters of many S Alta streams is not favourable - not much gold in limestone and dolomite, maybe some from the Crowsnest Volcanics. The Peace was known to have some placer gold - apparently helped feed settlers during the depression - because the headwaters are in crystalline rock deeper in BC. Waters in NE Alta that come off the shield country could have some. My year had 2 themes - year of the Bow and break-offs. I got out enough to stay sane and was only skunked a couple of times, but I didn't get onto any other waters than the Bow. I don't think I landed anything over 20". I hooked a few that were likely large but they broke off. Didn't get much dry fly action - couldn't make it out when the river was on for dries. Did buy some new gear in the fall - Amundsen 10' #6 rod and large arbour reel. This is the first new stick in at least 10 years - I'm more of a technique junkie. It's good for a bit more distance and great for mending line.

The natural gas business is undergoing a fundamental change from regional to global markets. The recent technological developments in drilling and completions have created astounding possibilities for resource potential. At this time though, there are great uncertainties about the true production potential and costs of the new resource sources. The financial folks on the sell side would have investors believe risk no longer exists and money is piling in. Those of us on the technical side, especially ones with a few silver hairs, are optimistic but nervous. "The next great thing" touted by a financial promoter seldom meets expectations. Hydraulic fracturing of tight rock to get oil/gas to flow is not a new technology as media extremists claim. It was first developed in the early 1900's and has been in commercial use since WW1. Leakage of fluids from frac'ing only happens when cement or equipment in the well fails. Use of natural gas for transportation fuel would be better for the environment. The cost to change the existing and build new infrastructure though is immense.

Qatar is the largest exporter of liquified natural gas in the world. Saudi has been looking for natural gas within it's borders to fuel domestic demand. It's not all just burned.

Part of would love that kind of trip. The nearly 50 year old parts aren't so sure.

So went down to the river by the Rollin Mix pit after 7pm this evening. There were only sporadic rises and nothing to the caddis I was tossing. I managed to nymph a couple out of a fast seam. I heard a smack on the water that sounded a bit like a beaver but there was no sign of one. I heard a couple of more smacks over the next few minutes. I was feeling a bit spooked but kept fishing. Then it sounded like a rock hit the water somewhere near me. This happened a couple of more times. It was getting pretty dark. The next sound was a distinct pffff thud. My stomach knotted because this sounded like a bullet had hit some grass and then the bank behind me. I did not hear the crack of a gun -just the sound of bullets hitting the water. And I never saw any splashes or ripples. I am about 40% deaf in one ear so I think they were landing fairly close. I decided to get the heck out of there. As I climbed to the level of the pit, I heard the crack of the gun and then an impact. It seemed to be coming from across the river. This was followed by about 5 quicker shots - sounded like a shotgun - a little while later. This was at 8:50 pm. As I neared the parking area, I could see the lights of a vehicle going up the hill on the other side of the river. Is that area known as a target practice area? I thought the road on the north side was private with limited access. When does the hunting open up on the river? This is not a risk I'd ever anticipated before.

I'm thinking of organizing a cast and blast - golfing and fishing. Speargrass at Carseland is available Sept. 18. Sunrise is at 7:15 am and sunset is at 7:45pm. I figure handicapped teams for best ball is a good format. Additional stroke credits could be counted for fish caught. There are numerous walkable spots near the #24 bridge. Is it better to fish the morning and golf in the afternoon or the other way around? Any interest?

So I'm re-living my youth and bought a 1996 Kawasaki KLR250. I called a local dealer and checked the internet for some parts. Does anyone have experience with BikeBandit as a supplier? They seem to be the largest Cdn internet dealer and are quite a bit less expensive for OEM parts. Also, what are opinions on after market parts? Buying a street legal dirt bike means I could be going through a few signal lights if history is a guide. The after market are a lot less than the OEM. Thanx

I watched about 10 minutes last night and almost saw a goal scored. I thought they only happened on highlight reels. The rest of you can forget about the lottery now - I'm hot. Get rid of offside and if someone goes down than they're off the field - open up some scoring and bench the sissies.

The charges have to work their way through the courts before you will be paid. Only when the fine is confirmed by a guilty plea or a judge finds them guilty will you receive your money. If they get off then no fine and no reward - arrest and conviction? I received my reward several months after the incident.

So third time's the charm. Got out with Rufus28 last night for my third match and actually landed one. Also had two LDR's with one that snapped me off with one real hard tug. Since the landed bow was hooked in the pectoral fin I don't know what they were hitting. Brad had a couple of hits and spotted a pair of risers but they were intermittent. He tried streamer, nymph, and dry fly. With a cooler front moving in from the north just as we hit the water my expectations were not high. The water was up about a foot since the last trip 2 weeks ago but it was still clear. It was nice meeting you Brad. I'll show you a spot of mine next time.
