  1. Agree with Taco - Mud Snow LTX. Buy from Costco - great price and road hazard coverage. Split a sidewall on something that was not fixable. Replacement tire was $7 with warranty adjustment for tread wear. Pretty good traction on snow. Highly rated by consumer reports.
  2. Agree with the first sentence whole heartedly. More often than I'd prefer for the second. I think RAP helps the third. It ain't broke so leave it alone. I would be very unhappy with a change to BC style rules - just a cash grab with no additional benefit. We have a fantastic fishery that's somewhat self regulated through report a poacher. With pretty well every fisher carrying a cell phone with camera, how long can poachers stay undiscovered?
  3. I've carried my wife's backpack lashed to mine in a few similar situations.
  4. I used to push hard each way on the commute. Now I don't push as hard and enjoy the rides more - only means a couple minutes difference each way. The road bike is better than the mtb for that - other than 4 flats in 2 months. Buying some Continental gatorskins tonight. Supposed to be very puncture resistant.
  5. Very well done. Good editing, nice pacing.
  6. Hadn't thought about the pressure in the pump. Yup
  7. Got up one morning to find a flat tire so changed it and headed out. Not 100 ft later I hit some glass and got another flat. I took that as a divine sign and went golfing for the day. After commuting on a mtn bike for ~25 years I bought a road bike this spring. I used to pass just about everyone on the paths but the proliferation of road bikes in recent years had me feeling old and slow. What's the best way to get full pressure with presta valves? I bought a pump with the clever head from MEC but it lets out a good blast when removing it. Is there something better?
  8. Was there 20 years ago - one of the first years it operated and was still under construction - at about this same time. It's a beautiful spot. The gear sure has changed. We had free-heel light touring gear (still use it). On the second last night we had a huge dump. The next morning we woke to find the entire slope above the cabin had released into the valley - over the tracks we'd made the previous days. We skied the trees below the cabin that day.
  9. Still undecided but it seems the Tories keep screwing up. Redford was all whiney about political interference in the US when Keystone was blocked after regulatory approval. Sandra Jansen is now trying to interfere in our local regulatory process over a license for a well to be drilled NW of Calgary. It seems some acreage owners, who moved into an area with active oil operations are whining now that more activities are planned. Those pumpjacks that worked within the airport limits for decades weren't just decorations.
  10. Lillian Lake is full of small cutties and only 6.5km. Nice day hike to Galatea Lake from there. Did it when the kids were 8 & 10.
  11. I've heard a person has to apply to get a pet from the Humane Society. Many people, especially acreage owners I've heard, are turned down because the society does not view them as fit owners. It's better to kill them??
  12. Interesting. They seem to be trying to combine a radical ski film with an anti-oil/development/trade message while wearing high tech composite skis, boots, clothing, and film gear - likely with helicopter support. The skiing is wild.
  13. Keith at J&K Auto. Happy with 2 jobs he's done for me where others were footing the bill. A few shops I contacted were nearly double their price. I didn't want to screw over the people who were willing to pay for damage they did.
  14. Bike path gridlock is guys lining up behind the tank tops and lycra shorts of the roller girls. Much better than car/truck gridlock.
  15. Jay's gives full refund for returned boxes in good shape.
  16. Just finished our second move in 2 years with Jay's. They did an excellent job both times. We got Simon's crew this time - they've been working together for a few years. Lots of experience and nice guys. I checked out movers thru the BBB before the move 2 years ago. Two small guys seemed to have a number of unresolved complaints from what I remember.
  17. It takes about 2 weeks of riding every day for the butt to toughen up. The lycra shorts with the chamois padding are more comfortable for riding. Also trains you for the future when you need Depends. Years ago the young girls in the office liked my lycra shorts. Now I think it makes them uncomfortable - like catching their uncle in his underwear.
  18. Welcome to the cycle commuter cult. It's a great way to wake up and/or unwind, is less stressful than car commuting, and is very scenic on those warm, summer evenings (think lycra).
  19. A boat with lots of rocker will be more maneuverable but slower. When loaded up it will sit deeper in the water making it even slower - especially with no V. The biggest effect will be felt with rowing out and back to a spot on a lake or crossing the river. A boat with a long straight keel line will track better and be faster and easier to row but difficult to turn. Think about a sea/touring kayak vs a whitewater kayak. Stability is determined by the width of hull in the water for a given length as well as the shape to a certain degree. A flatter hull is more stable. There is no one hull that works in both whitewater and still water.
