  1. Anyone ever notice how often the clocks on the Simpsons show 4:20?
  2. Since it's a dull evening, The search is neverending.. I am a pretty big fan of a bit heavier rod, 6's and 8's mostly, for bigger streams. I don't use an 8 much really, though, except for pike or higher wind. I had 2 Airflo multi-tip lines that I don't really use much anymore, I got a little pissed off with always fighting with the last loop connection at the end of the rod when landing fish. So I changed to sink tip and floating on separate spools for each. I just can't bring myself to drop huge bucks on a reel, but for the fishing I do I don't feel it's necessary. I really like the drag and build of Pflueger Presidents and Trions, I think I have 6 Pfluegers (??) down to 4 wt. It's nice to be able to quickly change spools to sink tip I find. And the price is right. Never had a problem with them once. I have a Loop 4 wt Multi that is an awesome rod for smaller streams, a little more delicate obviously.. I seem to get along well with Cortland lines, they lay out nice, float well, aren't over the top price wise, and have a nice weight I find. If I can reach it, I can usually stick a fly pretty close to the mark with them. But if I had to pick I would say a 6 all around, for the backbone with streamers and the quick change over to dries, etc. I used one even on small streams at first. I snapped my TFO 6wt, which is minor, because I put that rod through hell and it stood up awesome. I would like to check out a 6 wt Multi, mainly because I like the action of the 4. I guess its like cameras, lenses, 6 strings, and tube amps, everything has its possibilities, and the search goes on.
  3. That is one fine looking rig..
  4. Sweet pics man..
  5. I had thought about using alcohol or formaldehyde, but figured it'd be a bitch to take pics then, and the color fading.. When they get really fry too they fall apart pretty easy too obviously.. Hopefully can get some decent pics next summer.
  6. Picked those ones up at a Golden gang bang on the Oldman..
  7. Curls em up funny, makes them tough to get decent pics of.
  8. Haven't quite mastered preservation yet, they start to hang funny after a while..
  9. After seeing the Macro's on here I had to get one..
  10. I''ve got a few I picked up this summer, I'll do what I can..
  11. I can relate, someone could make a mint by just setting up a video camera whenever I hit the water.
  12. Sorry for the tangent everyone.. Bill Dance is awesome.. Saw a couple times when I was younger at my Grandparents house. They had cable.. The hat, the falling out of the boat, the hookset that could pull a Mack truck out of the ditch.. Couldn't get the other videos, but I can just imagine...
  13. The first part I strongly agree with. To actually waste the time to complain about something so ridiculous is beyond me. Something tells me, from what I've seen of his show, that he's not the sort that would even show up at a polling station. Propaganda my ass. The second part, not so much. I've heard a bit about Obama's outlooks on trade, etc, but last time I heard, the US has been outsourcing piles of manufacturing, etc. to foreign countries for a number of years. And I also hear that non-renewable resources are still exactly that. And I've also heard that the US imports most of what it uses in terms of oil, etc. Something tells me that when you have to buy something from the neighbors, chances are you don't have a pile of it yourself. And when the Middle East finally tells the US to "stick it up your ass" where will they look? America most certainly cannot just turn off the switch on a petroleum based economy as though it were a lightbulb (though alot of people seem to think so). I guess that's where Sara Palin comes in, with her "God says we need a pipeline", and "Drill baby drill", to convince everyone that it's ok to spud in the ANWR. Or that the US just needs to "Grow more corn for ethanol" , you know, to put in 40% more energy than you get out of it. And mine that farmland just a little bit more. Given the current economic climate I'm sure bringing all those outsourced jobs home might take a bit of doing, possibly a year or two(??). I can't say that I am not worried about what's coming down the pipe in the next while, because I am. But I'm also pretty sure that it's a pretty tangled web all around. I recall hearing that most other countries, such as China and India would be pretty "insulated" from any fallout of the US recession. Whoops, wrong there also. I've heard alot of things about GM and Ford, and the pile of trouble they're in, not surprising for anything that is unionized to that extent. I recall reading that GM is the largest health-care provider in the US. Alot of overhead riding on alot of people that don't make you money. Also pretty hard to sell cars when the credit dries up for the already over-financed. It'll be interesting to see what happens when most people can't afford the very thing that is most common, and most defining to, the middle class. Anyways, its a pretty intertwined world these days, and I know that there are alot of people out there that seem to think otherwise. We should all be worried I think.
  14. A pretty good writeup in the Jan. National Geographic also, the picture of the guy that melts lead solder out of circuitboards then cooks with the same pot was pretty disturbing..
  15. She's not going into obscurity without a fight.. All the "God willing" talk makes me want to vomit. Points to her for broadening her appeal though, the "hockey mom" bit was good, but stepping up the religious cue card rhetoric takes the cake.
  16. Anyone that would give you nasty email for that is a moron as far as I'm concerned.. Awesome vid once again.
  17. Is that the one those 2 old bachelors lived on? Read a bit about them, pretty interesting ...
  18. More props for Whistler. Awesome service in my books, and fast delivery.
  19. Ditto. (TICR's mine) I put that rod through hell and it finally gave in. Used it for everything from heavy streamers on sink tip to small dries. Next time in the city gotta pick up a new section. Am also wanting a Loop Multi 6 wt...
  20. Some decent books I've found.. Hatch Guide for Western Streams- Jim Schollmeyer. Entomology. Recipes- Brian Chan, Phil Rowley. Tying Stillwater patterns. The Phenological Fly- Bob Scammell. Nymphing- Gary Borger. Nymphing techniques. Fishing Alberta's Trout Highway- Barry Mitchell. Guide to the Trunk Road. If you are fishing at Bullshead a fair bit there are a a couple decent videos by Brian Chan on Chironomids, Shrimp, and Leeches. Shows techniques for fishing imitations, as well as their life cycles, etc. Hope that helps.
  21. War Memorial, Bergentheim, Overijssel.
  22. Excellent post. I travelled through Holland with my Grandfather a couple years ago, he was 88 at the time. He showed me many places from when he was in the Dutch Underground, and told me some pretty interesting stories that I'd never heard before. I realized pretty fast that I truly know nothing of hardship and suffering, no matter how bad I may think things in my life may be. He lived in German occupied Holland for the duration of the war, and his stories I will never forget, regardless of how reluctant he was to tell them. How his family doctor was shot for simply dressing an Allied Airman's wounds, how 14 members of his group were gathered up and shot in 1 day. How his Aunt hid a downed Allied airman (from Saskatchewan) from the Nazis. The people that he knew that starved as a result of the occupation, and the overwhelming happiness that he felt when his country was liberated. I had 3 Grandfathers that fought in World War 2, and to wear a poppy with pride is the least I can do to honour them.
  23. I use mine quite a bit to mark access points, and sometimes decent spots on the water. It's an older Garmin etrex Venture, doesn't have much in the way of features. Its small and pretty water resistant, we used 2 identical ones when we did the Mackenzie river last year with no issues (one for backup) Didn't really need them to find our way, but to roughly calculate a distance to the next town, etc, or to be able to give a location in case of an emergency. I do believe some of the newer ones have a different antenna that picks up signal better in overhead cover, Lorney's does I'm pretty sure, and a built in 2 way. I'm not really up to date on new technology or features, but as was said about bear spray, good to have for sure. My memory can be great or terrible, so I mark waypoints just in case, mostly for future reference.
  24. Would have loved to check it out, got called out of course.. Thanks for the invite, next time hopefully.
