Anyone notice the cover of this month's Fly Rod and Reel mag? I guess it's safe to assume there will be a few letters sent in response to the pic?

I flew over most of Western Canada on a clear day, staring out the window at all the water below. I can't imagine how many unbelievable , and probably virtually untouched, lakes there are out there..

That's wild.. Where did you guide?

No kidding, I've pulled up a few good size pike with teeth marks a good bit wider than the back of my hand right behind the head.. Damn, that's an awesome pic WesG..

Before anyone bitches about the pic, it was eaten within half an hour. Since it gets dark so damn early these days.... We got into Fossil Lake, near Ft. Good Hope, NWT, and chucked in a line for some supper. First cast, had a fish on. And the third, and the fourth. (Well, didn't really cast for the last two, basically just dropped the hook into the water while handing off the net) Netted the second, and passed it off. Got a third, enough nice sized pike for 3 guys for supper. Set up the stove, etc. while the fish were being cleaned, when I heard "Come look at this" I'm not sure how big the pike in the pic was, nothing huge for sure, but it had eaten the smaller one whole. A fillet knife was holding up the smaller on the log. The pike in that lake were some of the most aggressive I've ever seen, I saw a small one taken by one only a few inches longer, by the tail, hauled off to the depths. After supper and a whiskey, we continued throwing lures of all sorts, spoons, surface poppers, etc. to them, and lost count of the number released. I had an 8 wt with me, streamers worked great also. I noticed no other species in the lake, I'm sure they wouldn't last long if there were. Seemed as though they fed largely on each other as they got bigger, a walk near the waterline would scare smaller pike away from shore where I'm sure they hid from the big boys.

Why I Will Never Tent Again....

Yep, depth perception is where its at.. How often do you see a fish pics where the guy has his arm outstretched toward the camera? And that moose, wonder how far he was behind the head, probably 8 feet at least? (Still a big f'n moose though) -
I gotta get one of them.. I usually just stick it inside my waders, truly amazing where that *hit ends up at the end of the day.

I don't hunt alot because I don't feel the need. I hunt pheasants, etc., because I like to watch a good bird dog work,I like a good walk in the fall, and I don't mind eating them. I hunted deer as a kid, mainly because my dad wanted me to. I had zero desire to shoot one, though I've been able to shoot very well for a long time. My way around it was to shoot 10 feet behind a deer, and make an extremely half-assed effort to chamber the next round. Nowadays, hunting deer, elk, or moose wouldn't probably bother me as much. I really enjoy eating all of them. And for that I feel no guilt. I don't think an animal shot and eaten is a waste at all. Nor a fish. But for someone like myself it would be a bit impractical, and I'd have to find alot of people to give meat away to. Therefore, why bother? I may disagree with someone shooting a bear the same way someone else may disagree with my catch and release fishing. I may not see eye to eye with someone that feels the need to drive a car or motorbike 180 km/hr down a crowded road or highway, jump out of an airplane, etc. It's what they want to do, it's what they get a rush from. I'm sure the guy that got that bear felt close to the same way. The thrill of the hunt, I guess. I don't agree with it, (I'm pretty sure a bear isn't very palatable), it's not something I personally would do for sure. But it's not illegal, so who am I to argue? Remember someone might be looking at my hobbies in the same way. If that bear was attacking my fishing partner, or some random person, or myself, I would not so much as bat an eye. I'd do everything in my power to put it down, without hesitation. That may make me a bad person in some eyes, but whatever. I just wouldn't do it in any other circumstances I guess. -

That was too funny. Guy behind her kinda looks over his shoulder, just business as usual... -
Nice pics fellas.. And water is definitely an excellent propagator of sonic waves for sure. As well as pressure waves from simply stepping into, or in my case stumbling into, the stream to cross. If you can see even a small wave chances are pretty good a fish can feel it a good ways off...

That avatar is priceless... Sorry, didn't read the reviews, for those that have used them, do you just ballpark the subject in the frame and fire away? Was thinking about one also and wondering about that..

I noticed the visibility change drastically from about 5 meters down while diving. At 30 meters all you could see was more or less dull, no real colours to speak of, just shades. I kinda thought more about how lures might look underwater after that...

Absolutely.. Kinda misunderstood the question but have all three of these and they're excellent. Clive's also, my bro-in law has a copy I borrowed once, but have never seen it around. Clive, where can I find one? -

Ha... Too funny. Had a rope horse I had to use it on once in a while, but can't say I ever felt poorly enough to try it myself.. -

I know of a few guys that weren't afraid to use Bute every now and then.. -
Very nice, I'd imagine those should fool a fish or 2..
