  1. Strangely ironic, I should say..
  2. Nice pics.
  3. That was pretty interesting.. The guy who took the pics is awesome. From Whitehorse. www.paulnicklen.com
  4. Thats awesome..
  5. I thought I was going to vomit when I saw the grin on Belinda Stronach's face as she strode across the floor.. I don't have the words to describe my thoughts on this.
  6. Great pic. Spent a good deal of time working at the foot of those..
  7. That's just my game. Awesome pics..
  8. I've dealt with Vistek a few times lately, they've been really good. I do believe they will rent gear, on a per day basis or something, to try it out. The guy I dealt with last time mentioned it. As to the exact conditions I'm not sure though..
  9. That is badass...
  10. Man, I hope Santy Claus brings me one of them too..
  11. I agree for sure. But... As said "dodgy" in my post, I dove for 4 days straight in different locations around Vallarta, and some of the things I saw made me a bit leery. My girlfriend at the time, who got her open water certification in Calgary ( the theory end ) dove also for a couple days. According to her divemaster, the proper way to enter the water was to don your weight belt, etc., inflate your BCD, put it in the water, and put it on once in the water. Hmm, I said. Thats maybe ok if you're experienced, and have the sense to ditch your weights if you get in a bind, and are diving with experienced people if you don't. I was using 30 pounds weight, which to stay afloat with is pretty tough. But a class of first timers? Not to say all outfits are like that, or that its limited to Mexico. I never once felt unsafe, I've been a number of times, and travelled alone, on public transit, etc. etc. It's like anywhere, what you make of it.
  12. Full 7 mm wetsuit for that I bet... Ever go on the West coast?
  13. Went for a drive today, and... McGregor and Badger both frozen, Newell still open except for shallow bays as of this afternoon.
  14. As for ice to the shoreline, I'm not sure though.
  15. I believe Badger has a boat launch, and is deep enough. Newell is plenty deep also and has a good launch area.
  16. Sad. I almost drowned in a riptide on the Aus. coast. Pretty scary, there was a point off to my right, and even though I swam for all I was worth I was getting nowhere. Then I realized I was actually losing "ground" and headed out farther. Somehow I finally got out of it, learned later the best thing to do is swim parallel to shore, as the rip is caused by a slope to a sort of gutter on the shoreline. They can usually be seen as a streak of cloudy or silty water heading offshore. Surfers use them to get out past the breakers. As for Mexico though, with all the reports I've heard about "mysterious" deaths, who knows.. they're a little dodgy down there it seems.
  17. Yes, but the article is about BC fish.. And if I'm not totally off base, they perhaps were shown around by someone in the area? And as far as stoking the fire, seems this one's burning well enough on its own. As for the letters, good job. I would hope the more pious out there wouldn't limit their scoldings to just this site.
  18. Anyone notice the cover of this month's Fly Rod and Reel mag? I guess it's safe to assume there will be a few letters sent in response to the pic?
  19. I flew over most of Western Canada on a clear day, staring out the window at all the water below. I can't imagine how many unbelievable , and probably virtually untouched, lakes there are out there..
  20. That's wild.. Where did you guide?
  21. No kidding, I've pulled up a few good size pike with teeth marks a good bit wider than the back of my hand right behind the head.. Damn, that's an awesome pic WesG..
  22. Before anyone bitches about the pic, it was eaten within half an hour. Since it gets dark so damn early these days.... We got into Fossil Lake, near Ft. Good Hope, NWT, and chucked in a line for some supper. First cast, had a fish on. And the third, and the fourth. (Well, didn't really cast for the last two, basically just dropped the hook into the water while handing off the net) Netted the second, and passed it off. Got a third, enough nice sized pike for 3 guys for supper. Set up the stove, etc. while the fish were being cleaned, when I heard "Come look at this" I'm not sure how big the pike in the pic was, nothing huge for sure, but it had eaten the smaller one whole. A fillet knife was holding up the smaller on the log. The pike in that lake were some of the most aggressive I've ever seen, I saw a small one taken by one only a few inches longer, by the tail, hauled off to the depths. After supper and a whiskey, we continued throwing lures of all sorts, spoons, surface poppers, etc. to them, and lost count of the number released. I had an 8 wt with me, streamers worked great also. I noticed no other species in the lake, I'm sure they wouldn't last long if there were. Seemed as though they fed largely on each other as they got bigger, a walk near the waterline would scare smaller pike away from shore where I'm sure they hid from the big boys.
