  1. I use a Scott 6wt...I like it and there have been a few times where I was glad I could huck a streamer 'out there' but I think next time I will look pretty closely at a 5wt
  2. I was pricing some Orvis gear lately and comparing the online prices direct from the company and the local shop...wow, no comparison...the difference is HUGE. Buying from the US and shipping here still saves me about 30%. I think if the dealers want to be competative they will have to do what the gas stations do...sell at the price it takes to replace it. Keeping stuff marked up by 30-40-50% + just because thats what it used to sell for is no way to remain in business.
  3. Just got an Orvis Battenkill large arbor for my B-Day....pretty...very pretty.....
  4. I have a couple of Hardy Reels. A Saint John and a Marquis. Really, I have found Hardy to be a laggard in the reel dept. They seem to follow the crowd or stick to old styles and overly mechanical designs. Don't get me wrong, I love my reels but I believe there are better designs for less money.
  5. Touque me up buttercup!
  6. $5.99 US....how much is that in CDN?
  7. "35 - and still going to high school dances" (sorry, havn't figured out the quoth button yet) LMFAO!!!!!
  8. Went tonight. Pretty good crowd of people there and some deals. Got a nice print for the office (so I can daydream while working) at 25% off. Not sure about some deals as, with the CDN $ being so strong, there are good buys direct from the manufacturer. All the same I appreciate that store, Always good service.
  9. Two hookers a flat of Coors and a 40 'O Jack!....oh, am I on the right thread?
  10. Way to go! All the best to you and your family.
  11. I like the patch idea for the vest. I also like the idea of having your screen name on it...cool. I'd liek to support the site as I find it a great waste of time (did I say that out loud?).
  12. I'll turn the calender to page 43 in less than a month...funny, just yesterday I was full of piss and vinager...now, well, just piss mostly.
  13. Lonefisher....I thought Hoising was the capital? Are you sure of your facts? LMAO!!!
  14. A few weeks ago I was with a buddy who I am trying to show how to fly fish. I know of a spot where you can cast from a couple feet above the water (he has no waders yet) and with alot of space behind for the back cast. I saw a guy fly fishing a nice little run about 50 meters below were I wanted to go. We would be in no way infringing on his run and actually mostly out of sight of him. I asked if he was fishing up stream or down (so I could be sure not to be in his way) and his answer was "why do you want to know?" I said I wanted to fish the run above him but if he was headed that way I would go below...his reply was like he owned the river and, with a little disgust, he "allowed" us to fish above him. What a jerk. I really hope fly fishers try live up to the higher standard. We all want it to ourselves, I know, but it's not possible. When I see another fly flinger I hope for polite conversation and respect.
  15. I noticed a couple picts of some fly fishing fool in my first issue....nice work.
  16. I had quite a surprise tonight when I called an Orvis dealer here in Calgary. I asked if they had the Battenkill mid arbor, they said yes, I asked the price and almost spit out my beer...$225!!! I made another query to be sure we were talking of the same reel (mid arbor) and then thanked them for their time....Direct from Orvis the reel is $119 USD (approx $125 CDN) plus about $10 to ship and the large arbor is $126 USD on sale ($135 CDN)....I want to support the locals but sheesh. Still not decided on which one to pick up but I'm not one to willingly be gouged. I'm currently leaning towards the large arbor Battenkill on sale direct from Orvis...
  17. Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it. I hear that Pipestone...I sometimes catch my line in the drag adjustment knob as well. I also notice that the spool sits a little loose in the body and when I cast I can feel it wobble a bit...very annoying... I will prob take a run down to Country Pleasures this weekend to take a closer look at the Orvis selection.
  18. Anyone had any experience with this reel? I recently cracked my Okuma SLV and need a new line holder. It's a good news/bad news thing as I really don't like the SLV. I'm really leaning towards the Pfluger Trion but wanted to hear about the Battenkill. Thanks.
  19. Nice Wongrs....I've wondered what the headwaters look like...Thanks.
  20. Two basic rules...never leave your gear in the car and never get involved in a land war in Asia.
  21. Abull from this summer.
  22. Hey Birchy, give em hell.
