Amen brother.

Sight casting to reds and specs in Pt Mansfield, Texas would not suck much. That said, The Bow fished very well today, wind and all!

That is truly impressive. I bet the auction for it will be fun.

Piece Of Crap Cappuccino Maker
reevesr1 replied to reevesr1's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Already have a couple. She is making her coffee with one now cuz I'm too lazy to find the box with the cappuccino maker she bought at an estate sale years ago. There is actually 0 chance of me buying an expensive cappuccino/expresso maker. Same reason I don't own a high end fishing rod. I am exceedingly cheap. -
Sure wish I could have made it guys. I did take the afternoon off, but did not get off work until noon. Crow seemed a bit far for an afternoon fish! Hope to hook up after you guys get back for South America.

These debates fascinate me. Why do we seem to feel it is necessary to defend our choice of gear by bashing someone elses choice of gear? If I choose to only fish water within 20 ft of the bank with a 3 wt or bomb a spey rod to a mid river seam, why would anyone else care? Fishing is about personal choice. If you enjoy your method and think it is the best, fine. But realize it is just the best for you. You do not get to decide what is best for someone else. People enjoy this sport in an infinite number of ways. There is no such thing as "the best." I also find the speed of landing fish debate interesting. I agree that a smaller rod will protect the tippet, and in the hands of an experienced fisherman that can lead to faster landing of fish with less break offs. For most of us however, I don't think we put nearly enough pressure on the fish with the small rod for fear of breaking off. We care too much if we land the big fish, and don't have the experience required to push the gear nearer to it's limits. At least I know I don't. I fish with my 3 wt on the bow from time to time and I know I don't land fish as quickly as I do with my 6. That is certainly more a function of me than the rod, but the result is the same.

Yeah, but you probably use it wrong.

Official Flames 2008/2043 Seasons Thread
reevesr1 replied to SanJuanWorm's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
The only question is whether you believe the Flames have a better chance of competing with San Jose/Detroit with Olli/leopold or Lombo/Proust. And if the difference is big enough to justify the loss of draft picks. But I agree that most (but certainly not all) trade deadline deals fail, in every sport. Oh, and it was nice meeting you at the florist rehsifylf. I'm sure Bert will love the roses I changed my mind and decided to send him a nice fruit arrangement. -
Looking For Fishing Locations Between Banff-canmore

But remember Squatcher, I'll be fishing your spots this year since I planted that GPS in Humble's dog! Try not to pee upstream of me. Oh, and I bought some run flat tires, so that trick won't work either. -

Go West from Cochrane for a ways. Go South a ways. Get out of car. Walk. When feet get wet, fish. As JMasson said, get a Backroads mapbook. Or Barry Mitchell's Hwy 40 book. Your problem will be picking which river/stream to fish. Seriously. But nobody is going to give detailed directions on line. If you give directions on line, you are guaranteed to make somebody very irritated. -

Happy Birthday SD. Looking forward to the 2009 editions of your stories. -
Our Braun Cappuccino maker just gave up the ghost. Piece of crap was only 21 yrs old. I know this because it was a wedding present. This was given to us back in the day that you didn't need a $1500 Expresso/Cappuccino machine. I can feel my wallet getting lighter as we speak.

Nick, Haven't seen the show, but I'm looking forward to checking it out. However, I am more fascinated as to how you heard about this thread. Do you follow this site? Do you know someone in Calgary and they told you about it? The first negative comment was at 11:40 and your reply was at 7:30, so like 8 hrs. (and very nice reply by the way. it can be difficult to rebut a comment on line and do it in a way that can only be interpreted as sincere). Anyway, best of luck with the show. Sorry for the hijack!

Hmmm. I would say that outsourced doesn't necessarily imply cheaper. So how many guitars are we talking about? (I have this line from Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage in my head "It was a Stratocaster with a Whammy Bar") Smaller manufacturing operations with an emphasis on hands on assembling/crafting certainly could be an exception to the rule. Particularly one's that have been able to retain pride in what they make. Actually, there are lots of exceptions. I don't think that everything made in the west is crap, far from it. But not everything outsourced is just cheap crap either. Far from it.

I like to catch more fish than this guy with funny dots over his U. -
Didn't want to hijack SD's thread, but his discussion of the Korean made Hardy got me thinking. Why would there be a fear of a foreign made product, particularly a Korean made product? Could it be a holdout from when old guys like me were kids when "Made in Japan" signified cheap? That really hasn't been the case in so, so long. Now Made in Japan signifies quality, and the Korean's are on their way to replicating that. If I were to be afraid of anything, "Made in England" would not instill confidence in me right now. Think Made in America- like 50 yrs from now if the USA continues on it's downward slide. They have had half a century head start on a crumbling manufacturing industy. Now I know for classic brands like Hardy (the thought of a Harley being made in China makes me shudder), we would prefer our traditions to remain being made where they started. And I think it is a legitimate question to ask if a Korean made Hardy is still a Hardy-but I certainly wouldn't worry about the quality. Western society has lost the right to assume their products are better.

Not to be more obtuse than usual, but what good is netting going to do? The problem will just be back in a few years as no chance of getting anywhere near all of them with any type of net I've ever heard of. -

Wait a minute, wasn't I downstream of you this weekend?? -
Dutchman, Not sure I get what you are saying. The question was about extra tips and I think I tried to answer the question. Maybe I shouldn't have included my wife in the discussion. The truth is she is maybe not the best source of information as she has been fishing with the same rod for over 20 yrs now. But she does have a lot of friends, some of them who do use different rods from time to time, so I thought her opinion might be valuable. Maybe not. Here is my best attempt as answering the extra tip question: If you plan to fish the same stream over and over the same way for the rest of your life, an extra tip is probably unnecessary. But I would caution you to listen to the stream. Chances are, if you need an extra tip the stream will let you know. Maybe not in words, but you'll know. If you plan to fish many different streams and experiment with new techniques, then I would highly recommend you bring an extra tip with you. You never know when you may need it. Now I would not recommend carrying the extra tip around in public. Some people may stare as they will not understand. Keep it hidden, perhaps in your backpack. But when you come across the right stream for that tip, the stream will thank you for it. Maybe not in words, but you'll know.

I was wathching American Idol last night with my wife and daughter for "family time". But they left to go to a movie and I watched the second hour by myself. I also posted in the "Ask the Pro's" section even tho I'm not a pro.
