  1. Not in fresh water. But in salt, yes.
  2. That's pretty big, particularly for a fly caught fish. They get pretty massive (probably up to 50 lb or so in Louisiana, bigger on the east coast), but the bigger they get the harder they are to catch on anything not meat. For a fly caught fish, that one is pretty damn impressive. For a first ever fly fish even more impressive. My biggest red on a fly rod is probably like 25"+, and that fish would eat mine! Trying to remember my most memorable fish, but like RP3, it's probably one my son caught. We were fishing my favorite run on the Bow (at least this year) and I had just told him to really concentrate on the water right in front of him. So he is high sticking the run when he hits a fish just off his rod tip. He lets out a little "whoop" I look to see what looks like 25+" of Brown Trout come screaming out of the water close enough to him for the splash to get him wet! The fish makes a beeline for deeper faster water and puts on a couple of big jumps just to show off. Ben chases the fish down and several minutes later lands his biggest Brown to date. The fish turns out to be probably 23-24", much shorter than I thought, but FAT. I think I was prouder than he was. And I can honestly say I was far, far more nervous for him than I ever am for myself. Just a great moment for us both.
  3. You guys all suck. Don't you have jobs?
  4. How about the GUT (Grand unification theory for those of you not serious enough to know)?
  5. Earlier this summer a friend of mine assembled an Amundson 5 wt Wind Warrior rod. I used it pretty exclusively on the Bow this summer and could not have been happier with it. We bought the blank directly from Jack Simpson from his shop in BC. Several weeks ago, I stupidly broke my rod by carelessness. I called Jack and he said it would be a bit before he had any new blanks as they are selling the rods pretty fast. No worries as I had other rods that I had been neglecting and they were starting to feel jealous. Yesterday I went to Fish Tales as I had read Jack was there for a demo day. I wanted to meet him since we had conversed several times about the rod and other things over the past several months and I had been more than impressed with his customer service. After we met and talked a bit I asked about when the blanks were due. He said later this month, but that he had his rod with him and would lend me a section until I could return the piece at the fishing show this winter. So I now have a new tip section to use until I can get a new blank and my friend can put new guides on. Jack did not have to do that, and I came away even more impressed. Just wanted to relay that story for anyone who is considering a Amundson rod or reel. Expect only the finest in customer service.
  6. Girls and noobs ok. If u cant fish, moderate. I'm moderately serious........ Taco, you were sarcastic in your first post. If I could have you banned from this thread, I would. But since I'm only a wanna be moderator, I can't do anything but I can hurl insults at you like.... or if you prefer the original: Click here if the movie does not play.
  7. I have recently noticed several posters lamenting the frivolity and sarcasm on this board because it interferes with serious issues and conversations. Here is an area for you to discuss serious topics to your hearts content. I would like people to refrain from any sarcastic remarks to the serious people who will discuss serious topics in a serious manner on this thread. Have at 'er boys.
  8. Not quite over yet. You can get Shoe Goo at any shoe repair shop. Works great, much cheaper than aquaseal, and much easier to find.
  9. And LynnF resets the bar at $101.00 Thanks my dear. One nice bottle of wine coming your way.......
  10. Found this on a quick search. Don't know if that is what is being referred to, but I don't like the part about "removal of stocked species in some areas" all that much, but I think they are talking about the "upper bow". Y2Y
  11. It is all clear to me now. How could we have not seen this before?? Rehsifylf is Curtis McEhinney!
  12. Please. I'm not saying it is without issues here. In my particular circumstance, it could be argued that I am better off in the US from a health care perspective. My company covered me really well. But not everyone is as lucky as I am. However, it's not just about me. Getting sick should never bankrupt anyone. As long as a big percentage of the population cannot afford health care in the US, the system needs to be overhauled. Edit: Much better reply the second time. Refuting a study with another study is far more effective than the down syndrome garbage. Quotes from your study: Pick your poison I guess. So, in essence he is saying that you MAY have better access to care in the US. Interesting read. Not sure that it presents that strong a case for either side. Actually, it presents a case for a dual system, but nobody in either country really wants to talk about that.
  13. Life expectancy: US-male 73, female 80 Can-male 78, female 83 Infant mortality, per 1000 births US-6.3 Can-5.04 Can vs US Health Care Spending A couple of quotes: I don't know anything about the EPI (source of the health care spending numbers), so I can't vouch at all to the accuracy of their numbers. But I do know from watching debates in the US that the spend in the US is far higher than Canada, and for the extra buck you get lower life expectancy and more infant mortality. Good return on investment, eh? And I know that demographics are far different in the two countries, and that does impact both the life expectancy and infant mortality numbers. You would have to research over time to see if the US extra spend really is impacting these numbers positively in relation to Canada or any other single pay system. But I have followed this debate for many years now and nothing I have seen leads me to believe it is. How does this fit in the context of H1N1? Probably doesn't. Just a bit of diversion.
  14. These things are like conversations. They wander around.
  15. I've spent lots of time in both countries. If you are rich, or work for a company with a great health care plan then you are correct. If neither of those conditions are met, you are not correct (of course that is just my opinion). My parents were self employed for a good hunk of their lives. Not poor, but certainly not rich. Dad got prostrate cancer, and survived it for 11 yrs. About 1/2 way through the insurance costs got too much to continue. In the middle of that, mom got breast cancer. She survived it. All their retirement money was spent paying for treatment. Basically, they got sick, then bankrupt. My wife is a nurse and has worked in both systems. She far prefers this one. We have a good friend who is a MSc Nurse and has been in hospital admin in both countries. She far prefers this system. I just think the US system, as being practiced today, is far too onerous on the middle and bottom of the population. And getting worse.
  16. Went with my son for a bit. 3 pigs landed and a couple missed. Saw my backing 3 times, got two of them back. Also caught a 2-3 lb resident fish, my first in awhile. Here are some pics: This one doesn't look as big as it was. Look at Ben's hands. Little brown micro-leach. Dead drifting if there was some wind and chop, slow hand twists if calm.
  17. Thanks Chris! Very generous of you. Marc, Might do a handlebar.... or not. Good luck Jonny! This page describes the program further: Movember
  18. Headline is a bit sensational......(gay pokey thing here) A couple of quotes: I greatly enjoyed that. I hope, a hope almost sure to be unfulfilled, that some of the doubters of the effectiveness of vaccines will read this and be intrigued and question the whole anti-vaccine movement. But as the last quoted paragraphs state more eloquently than I can, this is unlikely. Thanks Marc.
  19. Hello Everyone, I am once again participating in a charity to raise funds for Prostate Cancer by growing what is sure to be another hideous 'stache. This is a very personal cause for me. My father, who just happened to be the guy who instilled my love of fishing, passed away from this deadly disease a few years ago. Anything anyone here can do to help would be more than appreciated. Last year, with tremendous help from the ever generous members of this board I was able to raise over $3000 for this worthy cause. I hope this year to raise even more! To donate to my Mo you can either: Click this link Donation Donation Pageand donate online using your credit card or PayPal account, or Write a cheque payable to the ‘Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada', referencing my Registration Number 214113 and mailing it to: Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada Attn: Movember 145 Front Street East Suite 306 Toronto Ontario M5A 1E3 Donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. The money raised by Movember is donated directly to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada who will use the funds to create awareness and fund research across the country into prevention, detection and treatment, with a goal to ending the threat of prostate cancer. Did you know: Every year around 24,700 Canadian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 4,300 die of the disease, making it the number one cancer threat to Canadian men. 1 in 7 men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. All men over the age of 40 are potentially at risk and should talk to their doctor about the disease and early detection. Prostate cancer is 95% curable if detected and treated early. For those that have supported Movember in previous years you can be very proud of the impact it has had and can check out the details at: Fundraising Outcomes. My heartfelt thanks for your continued support, Rick.
  20. Try to keep up with the sarcasm people. Oh, and I saw 3 wolves on the road to Radium this summer. Don't know if they weighed 50lb or not.
  21. Watching others catch fish in your lake would help.
  22. Wolves Kill! Film at 11! From the media, so you probably don't believe it!!
  23. I'll call them and ask them to stop all reporting. That will help. No information is better than hyped information. Just who do those newspaper guys think they are trying to stay alive in a news right now world? First line from the first link: Wouldn't want to know that!
