Global Warming....laugh...laugh...laugh
reevesr1 replied to a topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
So here we have a nice contentious argument that basically cannot be won, lost, proved or disproved. Add to this the fact that the belief or disbelief in Global Warming borders on the religious for many people makes it even more contentious. Sooo......... I'm in! I don't think it is very disputable that the earth's temperature has been rising over the last century. And it is also indisputable that worldwide pollution has increased. So pollution and temperature increases appear to be correlated. But are they causal? (ie just because A and B are reacting the same doesn't mean A caused B ) That is much more difficult to prove. Equally difficult to disprove. As to the "scientists can't model the weather" argument...The ability to predict short term (today, tomorrow, next week, next year) weather fluctuations is in no way indicative of the ability to predict long term trends. Those of you who don't believe in the accuracy or viability of long term climate models, you may want to pay attention to this. To the best of my knowledge, most recent models have UNDER predicted the rate of temp rise, and way under predicted the rate of the ice caps melting. Not very comforting. A French mathmetician named Pascal, when commenting on religion once said something to the effect: If I believe in God and I'm wrong, I've lived a good life and nothing has been wasted, however if I don't believe in God and I'm wrong, I may spend a long time in a hot place (I did paraphrase there a bit). To me, same thing with global warming. If we do something about it and we didn't really need to, then so what? Less pollution is at the end of the day a good thing in itself (and please don't tell me how there was once more CO2 in the atmosphere. It was too hot for humans then too!) Conversely, if we don't do anything about it and we WERE the cause, what do we say then? Oops, our bad. Sorry there kids. Good luck with that whole inhospitable planet thing. You may want to start working on really big domes to live in. My bet is we are in the midst of a general temperature increase that we are exacerbating with increased CO2 in the atmosphere. But really that's just my guess. I'm probably wrong. Whatever the case, IMHO, we would be effin crazy not to do anything about it. Simple risk management, ain't it? -
Now that's impressive. Mucho felicitaciones!

Hey Rock, This is how it works! Starts with one topic, has a misunderstanding, morphs to something COMPLETELY different (nice touch on the Bono reference Rev.) and gets to two pages, showing no signs of stopping. I guess to appease some, you have to add a fishing component. Here goes. I just learned there are pike in the Seine. Wish I had brought my fly rod and some of MTB's streamers. By the way, to both Max and Rock. You are both good guys. Don't hate, appreciate. -
Hey FishHead, I'm in Paris. Love the city, and most of it's people. However, it has always seemed to me it has more than it's fair share of assholes. Begs a question: You from Paris? Just wondering.

Hey Dustin, I didn't see any of this post giving you a hard time. As one of the outspoken 1st years, I actually thought your original comment was pretty funny. As far as the contest part of this goes, I'm all for it. I can guarantee anyone watching me try most of that stuff will get a great laugh out of it! -

Weedy1, where are ya when I need ya? Put this through the translator!!! I think he may have called me out, but I'm not entirely sure. I do know he just called whities cracka assd (is there a vowel missing) fish. And I think he called out the King. Very confusing to anyone over 40, that I can tell you. He does seem proud of that yellow rod. Gee, wonder who started that trend?
-
King, Great idea. Gives me a goal in life: Be cool like Max and the King. Max, Do you honestly have a yellow rod? That's funny.
-
Hey, I fished with Max too! And "The King of Swing". I also met and talked to Gordy Howe for about 15 minutes a couple of years ago. Talked about golfing and fishing in Texas when he played with the Aero's before he started telling the old Hockey Stories. It was really cool to look at the faces of the Canadian guys gathered around the table. Rapture might not be too strong a word? On my first trip to Canada to visit my then girlfriend, now wife, I went out with her sister and her boyfriend. The boyfriend was Gord Miller, who was then a 20 yr old broadcaster in Edmonton. I sit down at a table with them and a couple of other guys. The other guys were Dave Semenko and Dave Lumley. They were introduced to me like I should know who they were. I'm like "how's it going guys?" Just oblivious. Only through conversation do I figure out they played for the Oilers. I don't remember them buying me any beer though. Cheap bastards. Easy to call them that from a distance!
-
Oh, so now I see. The cool just jumps off the page. Sorry for calling "The King of Swing" uncool. You know, if you could get that car of yours in the background, it would just seal the deal. You wouldn't be able to beat the ladies off with a stick. Not even a 13'6" one. By the way, isn't Max's bigger?
-
Din, Listen to MTB. His streamers may be big enough to be seen from space, but them big suckers catch fish. Just don't let one hit you!

Taco, Portuguese? Nice. Lynn: 1. Giblet dressing. If you are not from the south, you wouldn't understand. And my grandma's banana pudding. haven't had it in probably 30 years, but I'll never forget. 2. Lights already up (because I am leaving for Paris this week. Don't think I've mentioned that today.) Decorations 1st week of December. 3. I think anything before 10 am is just tacky, unless you are a happy drunk. Then, whenever. 4. 3 wt rod. I'll get the reel.
