  1. There is a very good South Texas fishing magazine that has several pages of best/worst fishing times based on moon/tides/etc. I know people who swear by it. We actually use it to help plan our big trips. It certainly has some validity in salt water. That said, I'm mostly with Tako. The best time is when you can go.
  2. Brent, It's not just driftboats. Could use the service for Pontoons as well. You'll need to do some research on things like insurance. My bet is making money on shuttle service is not as easy as it sounds......
  3. There was a line in Blue Ribbon Bow, I think, that said: "I have a friend that goes ice fishing because he says it feels so good when he stops."
  4. Thought I would resurrect this post instead of starting another. I was going through my pictures from this year to send a few to a friend in Texas (yes, I do have a few). My fly fishing pictures started last year in March. It was shocking to me how many pictures I have of people from this site. It would take a while to add it up, but I would guess I have met and/or fished with 25 people or so this year. That is actually pretty amazing. Looking back, in most years if I fished with 5 new people it would be unusual. 25 is off the charts. Now part of that is because I can fish many more times per year here than anywhere I have ever lived due to proximity to the water. And the internet has certainly made it easier to meet people who have similar interests. But really more than anything it is the friendliness of the people here. I have been a member of boards down south as well. I never fished with anyone I "met" there. Here, on my cell phone I have the numbers of around 10 members from this board that I have no trouble calling and asking if they want to hit the water. And a whole bunch more I would pm and ask. I would also accept an invitation from anyone here (some just to argue with!). That's pretty cool.
  5. Hydro, DBT beat me to the punch. I won't have any money until my kids are out of the house, and my time is even more in demand. I know exactly how you feel.
  6. To hell with patience! Bring on the next Chinook!! Next weekend looks awesome.
  7. Right at 14 days for me. Yuck. Oh, and Taco, I like it when it's 38C. Feels like a nice winter day back home!
  8. mkankmike, Nice stories. Just as an aside, please continue to use proper capitalization and punctuation if you are going to use bold type on this forum. If you don't, you could be confused with a certain man with a Doctorate in Bull Trout.
  9. Don't worry Glenn. Not so very long ago, like yesterday, I was just another lonely postwhore looking for attention. And if truth be known, more than a little homely myself. Look at me now, I've graduated to Cute Indignant Texan. Mom will be so proud! My wife will ask if there's money in it. If I can do it, so can you!
  10. No kidding. I started to answer the questions posed above, but then I remembered that I had asked them myself.
  11. Think it may get cold enough for this tonite? Frozen Waves, sort of
  12. Oh Clive, Now that was effin funny. You even went Scandinavian with the name. Classic!
  13. A couple of things your wife wouldn't want to hear: Mom, the moose pooped in the house again! Mom, the moose is rubbing his antlers on your antique Wardrobe again! Also, any chance I can get me a pair of the shorts the guy had in the first scene?
  14. Here is what I think the setup is: 1 guy picking berries 1 Cameraman 1 Bear (of the untrained variety) 1 Bear Cub 1 guy, off camera, holding a big ass rifle
  15. So I need a little assistance determining what is fishing and what is non fishing related as I would never want to post in the wrong place. A couple of questions to help me clear it up: Is a post about how great a fly fishing site is, where we mostly (OK, sometimes) talk about fishing, fishing related or non-fishing related? Is a post about Jet boats (which we are only concerned about while fishing) fishing related or non-fishing related? If Birchy tells a really bad joke about fishing, should it be put in the fishing related because it's about fishing, or non-fishing related because it's a really bad joke? If I make a post about not knowing when something is fishing related or not, is it fishing related or not? Should I post in the fishing related as well? This is all so confusing.
  16. Indignant? How dare you, sir! I had my wife look at me while I was indignantly typing the above. She says you are correct Taco. I am very cute when I'm indignant.
  17. I may try that when I go home for Texas "trout". If that will work with whites, then I would also try Brownstones campfire recipe, but add a coat of dijon mustard before the cracker crumbs. You can also use the mustard to replace the eggs if you prefer. I started frying with a dijon coating a few years ago and love it.
  18. Sun, I think for the most part we don't take ourselves too seriously. It's just fishing after all. I also think most here have the ability to have a heated discussion with other members without it poisoning relationships. We may get irritated at each other from time to time, but after the heat of the moment passes we still tend to get along. Except for your views on Global Warming that is. In that, you're just nuts
  19. I was fishing with my brother and my dad when I was about 13 or 14. We were fishing a huge flat on the backside of a peninsula in Louisiana. This is literally in the middle of nowhere. We would go days without seeing anyone fishing within miles of us. Anyway, I snag something while working my lure. Dead weight, but it sorta feels alive. I had no idea what it is. It gets close and I see my lure hung on a stringer. With about 10 fish on it, all alive!! Well, my brother and I always counted our fish for a contest, and on this day I was behind by a couple. So I count the 10 fish and add it to my total. He thinks this is totally unfair, but dad backs me up. Anyway, this is bizarre for several reasons. One is the fact that no one fished there but us. The other is the very few people who did almost exclusively fished in the boat. They would have no need for stringers. We never in those days saw anyone wade fishing but us.
  20. I have a Garmin handheld (it is an eTrex) that I never use. I have to find it, but when I do I'll let you know if its a Legend.
  21. Love to, except for that whole job thing. Let me know how it goes.
  22. Thanks all!. Just a great birthday. I got: A. The Flu B. A New Bauer 3 wt JM1 One will last, one won't. Also, one of my friends thought it was my 50th Birthday (which it most certainly isn't), so I got a nice 50 yr old present. Not that funny if you ask me! The card was a kick though. My family knows me well!
  23. Congrats there, Doctor of Bull Trout!
  24. I went down to the river to walk the dog this evening. There was slush, but it was fishable, except every hole had ice over it. The good new is you don't need a spey rod to hit the middle of the river.
  25. Most true thing I've ever read here. Of course, that's not counting most of the stuff I've written
