  1. Hydro: http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...=3644&st=20 Gets going on page 2. Pretty interesting stuff. To continue the hijack, while I can understand the desire to get the fish in quickly in order to minimize mortality (and we have dueling studies to debate whether fight time matters or not), for me, I gotta say I like to fight fish. In fact, it is the primary reason I picked up a fly rod. It is fun to catch fish on a fly rod. If I wanted to get them in quickly, I know better tools to do that with. The rods are shorter and stiffer and you cast the lure, not the line. I certainly don't try to fish them to exhaustion, but my goal is not to get them in as quickly as possible either. Please do not interpret this as slamming anyone else's technique, just saying what I like to do, right or wrong.
  2. Lynn, You caused me to have a revelation: I think the vast right wing conspiracy that has been manipulating western monetary policy and choreographing wars for the past 3/4 century have coordinated with the liberal left media and created the global warming conspiracy. The reason is they can make more money "curing" it than their tired old money and war thing. And in a truly inspired move hired Al Gore as their spokesman (I mean, who would have ever conceived of that unholy marriage? Other than me I mean.) Disclaimer: The above is satire. It is meant as a GW neutral position.
  3. I can't tell him to put it back on. I stole it cuz I need it more.
  4. Hah, that's funny! I know it was TM right away, but couldn't figure out what was different!!
  5. Man, if I wanted to push a button......
  6. Reading Flyanglers cleanup post got me thinking: Without Rich (wongrs), who is going to organize this years Bow River Cleanup? I am certainly available to help with any organizing, but I have a very busy summer planned so I would need significant help, and someone with contacts at all the local shops for prizes and whatnot. I have a few contacts, but need one of you long time Bow boys to help out.
  7. I have 2, a 5 wt TiCr and a 3 wt Finesse. My son has a 5 wt Signature series. Good rods, good price, great warranty.
  8. Hey LK, You back yet? Love to hear about the rest of the trip.
  9. Al, Sweet man! A couple of them look like the would roll instead of swim!!
  10. 26" would be considered a BIG brown on the bow, or pretty much anywhere else. Very nice job!
  11. Double duty? What do you mean. BassPro will be cheaper here for the same reason they are cheaper back home. Massive buying power and inventory control.
  12. If you hadn't declared an end to this thread, which I am sure is amusing no one but yourself and I, I would have countered Belinda Carlilse with Suzannah "Let's make some noise" Hoffs (WAY hotter). But since this is over, I won't.
  13. Nice. Any excuse to look at Ms. Ford (though Joan owns her talent wise). I actually considered going with the Runaway's instead of Joan solo in my last reply, but knew you would point out it was 70s. It's funny that you actually hit the only Lita Ford song (Close My Eyes Forever) I really liked, and maybe my fave Ozzy tune as well. I actually loved the 80s. I was 20 in 1980, so its really the music I grew up with, or at least got drunk with. I listened to Men Without Hats for goodness sake. Hell, I've probably been on a dance floor when Dexie's Midnight Runners were playing. TooooRaaa LuuuRaaa LuuuRaaa LuuuRaaa Yeaaayyyyy!! I bet a seagull, or is it a tern, could nest in the lead singers hair!! Click here if the movie does not play. Good night now!!
  14. OK, so now you are scaring me. I could stick with the New Wave bands with hot lead singers theme and go with Til Tuesday or Missing Persons to counter your seeming fascination with effeminate bands. (Berlin-Terri Nunn, Til Tuesday-Aimee Mann, and Missing Persons-ex Playmate Dale Bozzio, all appeal to heterosexual males, unlike The Bronski Beat or Spandau Ballet) But I decided I needed a true purge. I could have gone with Dead Kennedy's or Black Flag, but both are really more 70s, and I was really never angry enough to get punk. I could admit a fondness for Def Leppard (a bit effeminate as well), Judas Priest (let's not go down that path), or Billy Idol, but all of these just further confirm my contention that 80s music, well, sucked. I could plug some Metallica, but again, I was never really into it. Never seemed to compare to 70s rock to me. Guns and Roses was great, but more late 80s, so doesn't really fit. So back to bands with girl singers. Not as hot (though I did date a pretty cute girl that looked like Joan, but a little softer), but DEFINITELY anti-Bronski Boys. "I Love Rock and Roll" By the way, I think "Flock of Seagulls" once opened for Joan Jett on her "Surreal" tour. So this does tie in to the original topic of this post.
  15. 7'6" 3 wt, 9 ft 5 wt, 9 ft 8 wt. Picked the 8 over a 7 because of saltwater needs. Vast majority of my fishing is with the 5, but can't wait to fish the 3 wt this summer! I did play around with a fast 6 wt a couple of weeks ago and loved bombing out a pretty heavy nymph rig with it. Trying to avoid buying it, because at some point it gets kinda silly.
  16. Spandau Ballet? Please. Berlin
  17. Terns also tend to hover over their prey much more efficiently than gulls, and I don't think I have ever seen terns eating while sitting on the water, though maybe they do in freshwater. And I was more a Thompson Twins and The Fixx guy myself. Found Flock of Seagulls a bit mundane. God, the 80s sucked!
  18. I thought it was a choice hijack! How often does one get a chance to drop a Frank Zappa reference? I would have quoted from "Catholic Girls", but couldn't figure out how to work in "with a tiny little mustache....."
  19. Not sure what a Benninger Electric Guitar is. I did a google search on Benninger Guitar, and this thread was the 2nd hit. Maybe Maxwell can help with Benninger lessons? Just teasing! Your "I'm a wammy girl" quote put a Fank Zappa song in my head that I can't get out: "Joe's Garage" It wasn't very large There was just enough room to cram the drums In the corner over by the Dodge It was a fifty-four With a mashed up door And a cheesy little amp With a sign on the front said "Fender Champ" And a second hand guitar It was a Stratocaster with a whammy bar
  20. Memo to self: Don't get sucked in.
  21. Hawg, Been *hit on by enough seagulls to know one when I see one! I'm an ex-shrimper, remember? Definitely not terns I saw. We used to call terns "liar birds" back home because they flock much like seagulls (seagulls flock over feeding gamefish quite often back home) but were rarely over gamefish. I can spot the difference between a flock of terns and a flock of seagulls hundreds of yards away. Saves a lot of boat gas chasing the wrong birds! These were seagulls sitting on the water and some smaller birds (small and dark) flitting about.
  22. I was absolutely amazed he pulled Kipper. I've tried to come up with a football analogy and I think I have it: Pulling your #1, All-Star QB in the second half of a playoff game because his receivers keep dropping the ball. Brutal freakin' decision. By the way, all us American's are in on the Hockey conspiracy to allow southern and west coast teams to win the cup. Wait a minute, no we aren't. Basically because very few of us give a crap (I'm a notable exception).
  23. Bass Pro, Gander Mtn., Cabela's, all the same thing. Great selection, HUGE stores. Kid in a candy store kinda stuff. The saltwater selection in Bass Pro was really good in Texas, so I would imagine they will be able to adapt to the north. That said, I always liked Russell's and Wholesale. A little understaffed, but who isn't? Any retail store here is going to struggle with staff over the foreseeable future.
  24. Nice Hydro. Awesome pics, and some cool photoshop work!
  25. Sounds like a blast Tiana! Between you in Europe and LK catching reds in Fla., I'm starting to feel a bit green. Oh well, skiing was great today.
