  1. Agree wholeheartedly on proactively getting regulations put in place. On many stillwaters in the province we have speed restrictions, as well as fuel/motor-type restrictions. Seems to me like a 10 km/h, electric motors only restriction on moving waters should do the trick. To a non-jet boat/power boat guy like me, if a person wanted to take this sort of a jet boat out to rip around in, why not go to one of AB's numerous large lakes to do so? Seems a great deal safer to me.

  2. I'd be focusing on getting regulations that restrict jet boat use on small streams. Meanwhile leaving the barbed wire issue alone.

  3. I must admit to being stunned by Jayhad's post on using a jet boat on small streams and that more are coming. Now we won't be able to fish in peace and quiet even on small streams. I would much rather have barbed wire running across the stream than have jet boats on it. Funny how things can change in a day - I now like the idea of barbed wire across creeks. Maybe I'll start volunteering to help ranchers fence across streams running through their property

  4. This is a concern that is coming. I have a small jet boat purpose built to run these little waters, and there are many more of us coming. I know of one manufacturer that sold 300 hull kits in to Alberta last year. With the free time covid is allowing folks it won't be long until a jet boat encounters barb wire at a high rate of speed. That said look at it from the farmers side of things, how do you keep your animals in when a creek crosses your fence line? I carry surveyors tape with me and often put pieces on the barb wire.... more for my eyes in the evening as these barb wires often lay across great runs. Be safe out there

  5. I agree Rick, it's going to be a tough go on rivers. Change your expectations a bit. Expect to do more hike-ins, or fish a few favorite spots by being really early. Lakes are still pretty decent and if you know what to do on them you can really get into fish, even in spots others leave alone I can't count how many times I was alone and doing well on fish at a certain southern lake this spring when there was 30-40 boats on it in other spots.

  6. Refer to this post I wouldnt go cutting fences as you really don't want to be to blame for cows getting onto a road and killing someone, but they're definitely not allowed across the creek without a disposition in place from AEP. I'd report them to the local fish and wildlife, as ya, they shouldnt be there

  7. It's gong to be like this all season. No one is able to travel, many are unemployed, everyone needs a break. If you want solitude, you are going to have to work for it and even then you might not get it. I'm resigned to the fact I'm going to have to probably do some significant hiking, which normally wouldn't be a big problem, but this year might push me a bit physically. Honesty, I'm glad people are utilizing the outdoors.

  9. Took a drive to scout out water conditions and maybe throw a line, line stayed dry. From Longview west and north at least a couple, sometimes 5 vehicles at every pull out. Picnic/day use areas had the parking lots full with sometimes double the number of vehicles parked on the access roads or highway, seriously. Cat Creek had over 50 vehicles scattered around. The water was high and off colour anyway, so didn't take the gear out. Went over the Pass and all the ponds were packed as well, people about 20 metres apart along the shorelines of Wedge Pond, Mt. Lorett Ponds, Sibbald Meadow Pond and Grotto Mountain Pond. Lots of canoes, kayaks, hikers, etc. Was anybody in Calgary on Sunday? Anyway, I'm healthy, so is my family and I have a job, things could be worse. But I really do need to catch a trout on a mountain stream with only the rustling of leaves in the background soon.

  10. Lets hope the water stays high a little longer and we get more rain so the trout get a break

  11. I was fishing the Ghost when a jet come shooting by. Put down the riser I was stocking and blew the water out for feeding fish for about 2 and a half hours. Not to mention what it must do to the banks. In my opinion they do not belong in small waters. But I guess it was just a matter of time before it happens on a regular basis.
